Full story: TwinCities.com

It's safe to say Gus Frerotte probably won't get injured trying to run for a first down this season.

I still think it's cool that Gus owns the Viking single-game high QB rating from that time spelling Culpepper against San Francisco. You go, Gus! Nevertheless, get well Jackson. OK, now everybody remember to stay healthy playing Pittsburgh.

let's hope Gus can get it together to lead this team. With as fragile as TJACK is, it appers that Gus will be taking more snaps and leading this team most of the year anyway. TJACK is injury prone and it appears he always will be, what a joke ...go Gus!!!!!!

I'm much more comfortable with Gus at qb than BB.

He's about as perfect a back up QB as you can have. Good arm, experienced, smart, doesn't get rattled. He'd probably start in Chicago.

He is not going to be backup for long. T-Jack will go down with a season ending injury within the first 3 games.

Yeah, I was just talking to somebody about that this weekend. Chicago would probably love to have this guy. Gus is a good QB. Has a style that's kind of like a "poor man's Elway". Getting up there in age a bit though. Hope they protect his butt good. He'll be out there a few more times this season, I'm sure.

Gus is definitely an excellent backup, but now what do you do come regular season? Keep Booty - drop Bollinger? The other way around? Or keep all four?

We all saw Bollinger last year! Yikes!! But Booty isn't ready to go out there if Gus goes down. Anyone with any insight here?

Drop Bollinger. We've seen what he can do, and Booty has better upside than he does, even though the last game wasn't his best.

As for Jackson sustaining a season ending injury, no, not really. I highly doubt that will happen. He'll just learn to slide at the end of his runs. I bet you he'll be playing this weekend.

Drop BB. When the final cuts come, there'll be a better QB out there. Pennington would've been a better replacement earlier on. About 3 weeks into the regular season, people are going to see why Favre was never a good option for this team. He spent YEARS used to the movement of certain offensive linemen. Bet he goes down quick with The NY Bretts...- I don't think that he will, but I worry alittle about if TJax will turn-out to be a "Charlie Batch" type player... Mostly, I think Jackson will be okay. I'm rootin' for the lad...

Pennington is a starter wh would not come here t play "behind" Jackson, QB's have their own pecking order that is pride driven, Frerotte probably saw the same thing, a starter with poor fundamentals and a tenuous grip on the starting position.Pennington will head up Parcells offense down in Miami and probably beat NY Jets at least once. He saw how his understudy, Bollinger, was treated here with better QB stats than Jackson so his agent probably told Minny to not even call. It is my gut feeling that Minny will practice squad Booty and keep BB and his grasp of the offense in case Jackson & Frerotte get injured early. I think for the first time in a few years, the Vikings have a comfort level on defense and at most of their skill positions. Only weak spot is at TE and the great unknown surrounding the QB slot.

Living in PAC 10 country both in Calif and AZ, I've watched JD Booty play for USC. He is a smart, good QB familiar with the WCO. He just needs time to adjust to the speed of the NFL. Not the strongest arm but smart. I expect him to achieve the level of an Esiason, Sims(Phil) type. Gus tried starting but wasn't consistent enough. Never-the-less in my opinion, perfect for the #2 role in MN.

Yeah, good point. But I was thinking at the time that he was "injured", hearing rumours of Favre maybe coming here, he might've been "intrigued". TJax's position is still not totally written in stone.

You know, it's kind of funny how some QBs are superb B/Us, but not that great starting more than a game, maybe two. Gus is a smart QB. Maybe the explanation lies in the fact that they watch so intently from the sidelines, that through their intellect they figure-out exactly what to do. I mean, they can study the whole thing without laying on the turf, or running for their lives. I always liked Jeff George as a B/U guy too. Arrogant bastard though...

the vikes should have aggressively persued chad pennington. i thought this was a big deal to childress and the vikes. talks of him coming to the vikes has been active since late last season. all things went the vikes way for this when brett was sent to nyj. what a wasted oppurtunity for a great season

This team is forever injury prone in the pre-season...starting to wear on me. We should just forfeit all pre season games and work stuff out during the reg. season...arrrghhh.

Those injuries would just happen during early regular season. T-Jack made a rookie mistake thinking he can runover people like Culpepper. There are always players around the league who go down once the real contact begins. I am beginning to wonder if some of the injuries are perhaps from lack of conditioning from Chilly's "soft" practices.

It's no different for people who work active jobs or with lots of lifting. If you don't condition yourself properly for the job you are doing, your risk of injury is increased. I'm not trying to place the blame, but if I were the coach I'd look into that.

Not only is Gus more durable than TJoke, he's a better QB (even at 37) than Jackson will ever be.
I'm so sick of Childress wasting time on his clown QB just because his ego won't let him admit he was wrong about Jackson ever being a legitimate NFL QB

Great news for the Lions, easy division title for them this year with the three sad sack sisters they have to compete against.
