Good luck guys! I thought Shaun was great too. For the first 7 games of the season.
He takes too many games off. Where was the defensive line when Detroit played Philadelphia? |
Yeah, well this article quotes "inside" people...so there! |
As a Lions fan who watch 15 games last year, you will love Shawn Rogers. At least on 1st and 2nd down. By the time 3rd down arrives and he's huffing off the field, waving for a replacement, you'll realize what we went through with him.
As for the INT return, check that footage vs. footage of him at the end of the year. It is believed he put on 30 lbs. during the year. |
I think that the rotation of all four big guys will increase the production out of our DL. I know one thing, 320+ across the line in the 3-4 usually equates to a better run defense. Good job Phil.
Yep, its nice having 1/2 of a ton up front |

A few things about Rogers from a Detroit perspective. He CAN play great, he CAN do things few D linemen can do, like a 60 yard INT TD return. Unfortunately with his lack of conditioning, drive, maturity and professionalism he disappeared (if that is possible for someone weighing 370 lbs, not the weight the article listed) for a 6 game stretch when the Lions were still in playoff contention after a 6-2 start. He was on the sidelines during the 4th qtr when DET was playing very close games vs. both Dallas and the NY Giants and DET needed plays from the defense. As a sidenote, Marinelli, just like Romeo is a D line guru and Marinelli couldn't get Rogers to be a consistent force so good luck to Romeo. Also, since when is giving a guy with undoubtedly questionable motivation/maturity a $20+ million guaranteed contract a good idea? Where is the carrot in that???
One other thing..... Rogers has weighed 320 in a few years he played 2006 at 340ish and approached 370 lbs last season.
Can rogers play at 370 plus ??-- good luck in the 4qt with him and after game 8 or so --- he is eating himself out of a job -

What compels people from another town to seek out articles about their former players and try to belittle them? If I were that excited that a former player was no longer on my team, I'd jump for joy and be happy with whatever my team got back in return. I wouldn't waste my time trying to prove to fans from the other team that they got a bad player.
I think the phrase, "He protesteth too much" applies in this case. As in, these Lions' fans aren't quite sold on the idea that getting rid of Rogers was a good move, so they need to try to tell everyone that he's crap in order to try to convince themselves. Kinda like when your hot girlfriend breaks up with you, and you've gotta go tell everyone that you're glad she's gone and it was your idea to get rid of that loser. As far as interior defenseive lineman go, what do you expect? A sack on every play? A running back stuffed for minus three yards every play? Was Rogers not getting the big plays because the other team was using two guys to keep him in check? Hey, if all Rogers is good for is to neutralize two offensive lineman, freeing up one of our guys to make a great play, then I'm all for it! I'll take that kind two-time pro bowl, fat bust any day, lol. It reminds me a bit of the Gerard Warren situation. Everyone said he stunk, that he never made any great plays. Well, once he was gone, our defense got worse and teams started running on us more. A 2003 Gerard Warren was a whole lot better than anything on the 2007 Cleveland Browns defensive line. An interior d-line is a position that you don't notice them too much when they are playing well, but you really notice when they are playing poorly. Detroit fans, watch next season as teams start breaking more runs right up the gut. Then next year come over here and let's talk. |
I remember being excited about Gerard Warren and Courtney Brown. I also remember being excited about Michael Dean Perry and Jerry Ball. Whether we were worse off or not after they left is immaterial. I mean a sub par D-Line Vs a terrible D-line, from a fans perspective both are intolerable.
The little people who pay their hard earned money should demand success and if it is not achieved they should demand accountability. Being told to settle for mediocre is insulting and breeds apathy. Apathy is the true enemy not discontent. Wait. Am I talking about football or local government? |

Hey, give the big fella a chance guys. Too often we step on these atheletes before they put a jersey on.
Like my dollar bill reads: "In Phil We Trust" |
hey all
don't know about any other browns fans but who care's what everybody else thinks myself can't wait for next season already and I really believe we have a great chance to if anything kick the shit out of are division this year and that's a great feeling for me (bleveland) p.s. go Phil |
Who knows if Rogers will excel or not. We just have to wait and see. I have faith in Romeo because of his track record with the team. He does have a knack of getting the most out of his players. They go to the wall for him and I've NEVER heard any player talk bad about him so that tells you something about what players think about a coach like that. Rogers will probably need to be rotated to be truly effective but you would expect that with any D-line. You cannot run 320+ lbs linemen up and down a field for a full game I don't care how athletic you are.
Now, if only the 'glass half empty' media can stop harping on Rogers past (as if they want him to fail so they can sell more print) we can move on to better stories about the Browns. |
The job description of a 3-4 D lineman:
Find the nearest 2 guys, grab them, and fall down. That's it. Keep the O Line off the LBs. That's why I never understood why Washington couldn't handle it.... |
I think Rogers will not only be ok but he will excel under Romeo.
Hate to see *that* pizza bill though. |
Great post. I too wonder why people end up here posting on stories in the Akron paper. I'm sure they're not reading the story, but just stumbling into the Topix forum. |

"Unfortunately, with the Detroit Lions it stood for something else — a guy who was described as not consistent, not a hard worker and not dependable."
Unfortunately, you are incorrect. Me being from Detroit and a life long Detroit Lions fan, that is not at all why we call Shaun Rodgers "Big Baby". At most it's just a playful nickname. A majority of Detroit was completely content with Shaun up until the 2nd half of this season. Note for the future, don't talk out of your butt. |

Steve, I read the entire article, just like I always do. I also think most people read the articles as well. I like to ask this question though: Why are Cleveland fans, and when I say Cleveland I mean pretty much Browns fans more than any others, so skidish about people commenting on a post. It's like they think its bad Karma or something that's going to doom the team. you can come on any site of my team and say what ever you want. I won't get all hissy and pound my pillow at night. If I think your just being a jerk, I'll ignore you. See, I can do that. I'm a big boy and there is not anything you can say that will effect the outcome of a game. |

rogers will dominate-browns are going to the superbowl-we're the best ever no one and i absolutely mean no one can beat us when we're playing together!!!
It could be because after last season when the browns were a winning team, Any story about the browns becoming a good team there are other football fans mainly steeler fan coming in just bashing the browns with no real fact or opinion on the article. Now on to the story. I think on thing that will help rogers big time is the browns also have people to rotate with him. I didn't watch him in detroit I can't lie so i don't know if he was expected to play every snap or not. He should be more effective late in the game because he will only play half the snaps or a little more because williams is a good player as well |
