Merriman, Chargers are making big mistake

Well, you are right and wrong. Merriman should opt for the surgery - for his own benefit. However, the Chargers TOLD HIM to get the surgery -BACK IN JANUARY. Only Rivers heeded that advice. Merriman opted not to have it and work through it on his own. Fast forward to the present. Now you have the doctors AND the Chargers medical staff having told him to get it and he refuses. Do not place the blame on the Chargers staff on this one - unless you are suggesting they should tell him no and put him on injured reserved. That seems silly to me when the man can play and has chosen to.

Chargers fan myself, I am definitely troubled by the situation. I know that this year the Chargers have a good chance at going to the Super bowl. I wonder how SM would feel had he sat out the year they won it all. That is the type of thing that would haunt a man. If you want the ultimate you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price. Me, I wish SM would get the surgery, then come back and resign with the Chargers (even though it would be at reduced pay as compared to what many other teams would be willing to pay him when his contract is up)

Being a journalist you should acknowledge the fact the Chargers told Merriman to get the surgery at the end of last season.
