Is Ponder set up for instant success?

Jul 6, 2011 Full story: ESPN 77

Does Christian Ponder have the kind of team around him to succeed the way Mark Sanchez did with the Jets in his rookie year? That was the question proposed to me.

I’m a Packer fan, I don’t hate the fact Peterson was voted 3rd best player, he is awesome.
How did the rest of team do?

I would bet more Viking fans hate seeing the Green Bay Packers as Super Bowl Champs!
But hold on tight to the 3rd best player “voted” thing and never let go it will probably be the highlight of your season. One good player will not win a Super Bowl and by the time the Vikes are able to rebuild/reload AD will have quite a bit of wear and tear from trying to carry the team, if they can resign him. I think the Vikes will struggle again.

A moral victory is a big thing to a Queens fan. They probably have a parade every time they get one of those. The losingest franchise in the NFC North

Zigi Wilf has issued two new mission statements for this year's Viking team.

"No hope today means less disappointment tomorrow."

"Contentment with mediocrity brings success."

I didnt see any Packers in the top 10 I think one good player in the top 3 is better then a few that didnt place in the top ten & Bear fans You know your team blew it the last game of the season & let the Packers in the playoffs if the Bears win that game no wildcard for the Packers & they Dont go on to win the super bowl That was one sorry performance by not only Cutler but by the whole team. Now With the Packers easy season they are set up to win the division this year & if they Dont win it all The last laugh we Vikes fans will get Go Vikings

All the Vikes team needs is help up front & CB like Asomugha The Vikes defense wasnt bad the run game wasnt bad Blocking was bad That is something Bears know something about look at the sacks Cutler took & the Packers they know there front line needs help also Aaron Two head concussions None of these team have a good front line I can say this about the Vikings line they didnt give up as many sacks as the other teams in the North . The Vikes are a better team than the people give them credit for & Free agenting can make this team solid all the experts say Ponder has the best chance to succeed Why do think that is, because the Vikings are so bad? Go Vikings

I'm not as confident as you are in the Vikings 2011 team. Team turmoil over last two years no FA, certainly not an all star like Asomugha will make the "decision" to sign with the Vikings. Like Cleveland in basketball, Minnesota is not a destination where great players choose to live.

lol As we see by this lockout its Money that matters most to the players. Didnt Cutler go to the Bears as a free agent? was the Bears at that time a top team, I think not.

Chicago has a A+ nightlife. If you were a professional athlete in your 20's with a million dollar contract, single, and had your choice of teams Where would you go?

Me? A team in their prime probably in a big city like most men would pick..

Then you wouldnt be a player the Vikings would want I am sure there not looking for players that will cause another love boat scene. This should prove something to you - Jared Allen Was a Free Agent 2008 & the Vikings A 8&8 team Picked up Not only the Best free agent at that time but the best Player on the free agency market So why dont you think they cant do the same now? Most guys will go there career & not see a super bowl ITs The Money Would be for me These guys are not kids any longer When the season is over Then they can party & most of the good players do it just like that Party after your JOB is done & the season is over Sorry but if I was the coach I wouldnt want you if all you think about is how big the city is & partying before or after games I think the Vikings had enough of the love boat crew. Really? You would rather have AD then all the Packers in the top 100 list combined? I know you didn’t see any Packers in the top ten, but did you see them win the Super Bowl?

I would rather have Rodgers on my team then AD. I know AD is crazy good but having a top tier QB is more important to me then having a top tier RB. Just my opinion. It’s a pass happy league.

In all seriousness though the top 100 thing holds ZERO importance, is just being voted in nothing official. It is just for fun while we all wait for the lockout to end.

The Green Bay Packers are the Super Bowl Champs, all of them not just the individuals “voted” into the top 100.

What makes you think the Packers have an easier season then the Vikes?
Take away all NFC north games (all the same for everyone in the NFC North) and look again.
The Vikes should have one of the easiest schedules cause they sucked the big Chunky Charlie last year and finished LAST in the division giving them easier opponents (in theory).

The Vikings can have the last laugh when they win it all. Not when the Packers don't win it all. And in the NFL no laugh is ever the last laugh. The Packers had the last laugh so far but it is a new season.

I have no reason to believe the Vikings have a legitimate shot at getting to the playoffs next year. I am not saying they can not but I would not bet any amount of money on them making it in.
They are NOT GOOD.
The Vikes were good 2 years ago and they missed their window to win the Super Bowl. Its ok, it happens to many teams including the Packers too. But the Packers reloaded and came back and won the Super Bowl a few years later. I don't think the Vikes can do the same because they are getting old and in simple terms NOT GOOD, not good at all. Yes except AD the “voted” 3rd best player. The team though… NOT GOOD

--Cutler was traded to Chicago, he did not go via free agency.

--In your other post #25 you wrote this “I can say this about the Vikings line they didnt give up as many sacks as the other teams in the North”– This is not true either. But there is more to giving up sacks, maybe also look at sacks per passing attempt. The Lions were great in this area…Or of those sacks the Vikes took how many were by the back ups. Favre is great at getting rid of the ball quick to avoid sacks. But look at how the other young ones gave up a lot more sacks per attempt.

I think the sack numbers for the Vikes will rise this year if you replace Favre with an inexperienced QB, especially a rookie. Here are some other reasons -- A new offence is being installed in MN, no new additions to the weak O line, lack of quality WRs, a rookie QB, Then add in the pass rush in the NFC north which is great and getting better.

Sacks vs. Attempts and %

Favre 22 sacks 358 att = 6%
Webb 8 sacks 89 att = 9%
Tjax 6 sacks 58 att = 10.3 %
Viking total 36 sacks 505 att = 7,1%

Rodgers 31 sacks 475 att = 6.5%
Flynn 7 sacks 66 att = 10,6 %
Packers total 38 sacks 541 att = 7,0%

Bears I think were around 12% and Lions around 4%.

Spoken like an immature player. THINK!! How long is your career going to last? 5/6 years? Now what? Being a big fish on a small pond brings more name recognition, translating into more opportunities after football. EVERY player, when asked, says football is a business and in 1 second, an injury, and it's over. Most players, with 4 years in the league, have already found a love interest, or are married, so they are not being lead by their penis. Your argument has NO MERIT.

Hey brother, as I'm just replying now, I guess you can say....busy. My little vacation starts Thursday though. Any of my free time has been spent outdoors. I even have a good tan! I'll tell you what....having a rottie on the other end of a big rubber football pulling helps keep me in shape.

Jan's getting a new treatment now as the spots in her bones were getting bigger they said. Still...lots of different options. I do pretty much just make sure she gets to do whatever she wants to now. Anything she says, I do it.(I know...what's different right?)

September 9 is my appointment with the surgeon. New hip shortly thereafter.

Tell Gina I'm sorry. Sometimes things don't work out for people even after a long time. I guess you and I got lucky.

Birthday, 24th Anniversary and, new labor deal all coming up. Should be a good week. Later bro!
