Rick, you're a tool. Why so pessimistic? I know the Bears have some holes, but you're sounding like everything that can go wrong, will go wrong. And that's not going to happen. These are the Bears, not the Cubs

It's because he's an idiot who hopes to be the next Jay Marriotti or Sheit Rosenbloom. All he wants is attention, and right now, it's negative. This is the last article of his I will ever read. I hope he gets fired.

Dude why are you writting in a Chicago paper? You are obviously a Packer fan. The Bears WILL be tuff this year and make a good run in the playoffs. Their schedual is not that easy, but they have the talent and the defense will come back around. The worst move they made in Lovies tender was putting Bob Balche as d cordinator, and they've fixed that problem. Rod is a good coach he was just without talent with the Lions. Players respect him and he has his reputation for being the best d line coach in the league for a reason! Hester will have a 1,000 yrds and I bet knox in the next 2 years will be a beast! Cutler is in his 1st year with the Bears. Give him time and the team time and they'll be a top team for years to come

Can you possibly write 1 column that has any kind of substance to it? I thought Mariotti was the absolute worst columnist I'd ever read but you raise the bar everytime you post a brand new "hard hitting" column. Are you trying to get on PTI or something with your cutting edge takes on Chicago sports? I heard that Zambrano puts his left sock on before his right every morning...maybe you can write an article about how that might hurt him in late September. Do you even know anything about sports or are you another one of these Chicago sports writers who were band dorks in highschool and now think they are credible columnists? You and Kaplan are a joke and your attempts at being different and controversial just show how worthless you both really are. Go away. Maybe you can bet your job that the Bears aren't good this year and then when they easily make the playoffs you can go write about Ice Road trucking in Alaska.

Just the sort of superficial nonsense I've come to expect from the bankrupt Tribune Company. Why take the time to do the research and write something that actually informs the reader when your editor accepts and publishes articles like this? Can anyone honestly say they learned anything after reading this? No wonder newspaper circulation is dropping like a rock.

No one thought Eddie Royal would have the season he did as a rookie. Cutler makes his receivers better. I think Knox will step up similarly. We'll see how good Royal does with Orton lobbing the ball!

That is why I never buy Tribune. But you guys seem to be doing fine without readers, right? Oh no wait - didn't you file for bankruptcy? Tool

Wait a second, now. Since 2005, we, as Bears fans, have been told that it takes a real QB to make the receivers better. But now that the Bears have a real QB, we're told that it was actually the receivers' fault all along? Dang it! Stupid Bears. You had to go out and get the best QB available. You fell for it, hook, line and sinker. I mean, we all know that through all those years, it was actually Brett Favre's HOF-quality receivers that made him such a great QB. And if Peyton Manning wasn't throwing to Marvin Harrison, he would have sucked, too. Ah! I can't take it anymore! The shame of being a Bears fan!

It just can't get here fast enough. If I read another article that questions wr and safety, I'm going to puke... Yes, they are legit ?s, but it's been beaten to death! Enough! Let's see this thing on the field.

Wow .. more pointless drivel from Rick. Almost makes me long for the days of hacks like Bernie L and Skippy Clueless.

Do you actually get paid to right this crap. This was the dumbest story about the Bears that I have ever seen. Every single one of your points has already been talked about in the news about 20 times.

Gee, I was going to come on here and bury Rick for his attempt at 'comedy', but after reading the responses I kind of feel sorry for the guy.

I mean, it's not his fault that he can't write a good story. And even if he could, why should he, what with the Tribune publishing anything he scribbles on some toilet paper while spending time in the bathroom?

On a more serious note, I suppose Rick forgot about the potentially best TE corps in football when he was trying to figure out who Cutler was going to throw to....

You're pressing, Rick. Your attempts at being glib in print are missing the mark; and frankly, uncomfortable to read. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that assessment of the Bears is too narrow in its scope. Stick with what you know. I don't know what that is, but stick with it.

Dude WTF!!!! Get the f@#K out of Chicago. I think I'm going to cancel my subscription to the Chicago Trib if they keep douche bags like this guy on staff. My parents keep telling me to switch to the New York Times. Something about them being more factual, I don't know.....

The only sniveling baby in Chicago is named Rick Morrissey. Cutler's reaction was justifiable, considering everything Pat Bowlen told him.

I do not understand all of the Orton bashing that goes on in Chicago, he is actually a fairly decent quarterback. A lot of Orton's failures had to do with questionable game planning by Ron Turner, which put him in predictable situations.

Granted Orton is not a top 10 quarterback who can carry a team on his back, but he can make plays when he is given the entire play book to work with, besides that he has proven that he can win in this league.

Orton will put up good numbers this year because he will be given for once in his career the entire play book to work with.
