Who's the new Johnny Morris for new Chicago Bears quarterback? Rick Morrissey In the wake of the news April 5, 2009 Can we at least agree on Torry Holt ? Or, dare I say it, Plaxico Burress ? When I say "we," I mean the mob of pitchfork- and torch-holding, Jay Cutler true believers on one side and, on the other, me - apparently the only person in ...

You don't sign Cutler and Pace than stop and don't get any receivers. The Bears should get a receiver through free agency than draft a safety in the second round.

This idiot kills me...yea, rip Cutler, but supoort the Bears signing Burress. Is Morrissey past his prime? uh huh. Is he trying to be the new Marriotti? Uh huh. He will be gone soon, too. What a waste of space he is.

Let's add to that list the entymologists that you have now upset.
Morrissey:(n) orig. 21st C. Chicago: One who habitually sees or anticipates the worst or is disposed to be gloomy. The Bears just signed the most skilled quarterback, dare I say, in their franchise history and you still aren't satisfied Morrissey? Must be awful to have to play the naysayer role all the time.

Congrats to all the Bear fans that have reason to cheer and renew their faith in ownership, the management, and the team. Perhaps a dose of wellbutrin for those who still see fit to mope! GO BEARS!

Morrissey give it up! You obviously have something against cutler.. Did he not give you an autograph from years ago does your wife have a crush on him..? You sound just as ignorant as the one or two fans in Chicago that didn't like this trade. You seem to forget that mcdaniels was the problem is this fiasco not cutler..I think a lot of us if we had the oppurtunity to get a better job in a place we all wanted to be because of a boss we hates we would all do it.. But your hate relationship with cutler is getting silly now.. I think the mob is starting to get heated again with this ridiculous reports by a ridiculous man named morrissey

Torry! Torry! Torry!

Sorry, Rick, but I, too, was one of those millions of Bear fans who literally jumped out of my seat when I saw we landed Cutler, but part of it was because I was THRILLED he wasn't going to the Vikes or the Lions.

Nothing wrong with adding a free agent receiver.

Cutler's salary is half the going rate for a top quarterback, and we don't have to (over) pay for 2 first rounders in the next 2 years.

Rick, you're hands down the WORST writer the Tribune has ever had.

I may be one of the three people in Chicago who agree with you Morrissey. Sure, Cutler is a good quarterback. But he had Brandon Marshall and an offensive line. I don't see him changing the face of our team without giving him some reciever help. He wasn't a downgrade by any means, but to say he is our new franchise quarterback without him having even thrown a pass is ridiculous. I hope I'm wrong, but I won't be surprised if we only win 9 games again this year. Of course I also won't be calling for Cutler's head if that happens either...

Our offense is set the way it is . The only problem was Orton now that we have someone to throw the deep ball to Hester we are looking at the modern version of Montana,Rice and Taylor with Forte playing the role of Roger Craig .

Cutler was Cutler with or without Marshall. Check the stats. The fact is Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal won't be much without Cutler. He makes throws not many in the NFL can make.

While I somewhat agree with you that we need to improve the WR position, I don't think you're really looking at some of those prospects you mentioned. Plaxico Burress is going to prison here in a few months, so he's not playing for ANYBODY this year. Torry Holt is only interested in dome teams or southern teams, which throws us out of the mix. And in order to aquire Anquon Boldin, we'll have to trade away a first round pick. We don't have one of those in 2009 or 2010. You want us to attempt to trade away our 2011 1st round pick? Arizona won't even be interested in a deal that they won't recoupe from for two years. While the WR position needs some attention, it can also be addressed in the draft or even afterwords. Look into the players you suggest before suggesting them.

Rick you are so worthless.

Why can't you admit that Cutler is an ALL PRO at his position? The kid threw for over 4,500 yards last season.

Yet you repeatedly tell us how his TEAM lost more than it won.

Walter Payton's first 2 Bears' teams went 11-17 - does that mean he was as bad as you are trying to make Cutler out to be?

Peyton Manning went 3-13 his first season - I guess you would have complained if the Bears had traded for him.

Seriously man - you got no credibility, no integrity, and you don't even write well. Give it up.

Trade Urlacher for Boldin, problem solved.

Hester should make a quantum leap in his second full year as a receiver, and with a quarterback lilke Cutler, who might not underthrow him every time that he goes deep.

You are such a goof, Morrissey. Yet another column produced in about fifteen minutes (and if you spent more time you really are a hack) bashing Cutler. Yet you recommended signing TO and you'd like the Bears to sign Plaxico - who is GOING TO JAIL. Should we get Donte Stallworth too? You're insane. I realize you are all the way out on the limb now, but give us all a break.

Also, let's all remember that we do have a first-round pick coming in this year - Chris Williams, a starting tackle. So we acquired Cutler, Orlando Pace and, in effect, Chris Williams and some other OL guys. Yes, we lost St. Clair and Tait but they were replaced. There's no reason to think we won't be far better this year. Just wait until Brandon Marshall gets hit in the feet by a few Orton ducks - then HE will demand a trade!

First off, who ever suggested the Bears didn't need another receiver? Who in the Bears front office said Cutler was going to solve all the Bears problems?

No one. More conjecture from a person who doesn't think before he writes.

Of course Cutler needs help. But you can't say for certain that Cutler will not make the players around him better.

Did you ever think that Marshall -- who came in the league the same time as Cutler -- was made better by having a QB of Cutler's caliber?

Did you ever think the line wasn't helped by Cutler's mobility?

You certainly didn't look, because Broncos players praised Cutler's abilities the entire time he was there.

And the fact that you would even suggest bringing in Burress shows your hypocrisy.

You are bum. And the company could save a lot of money by getting rid of you.

Hey, then you could maybe even bring Chicagosports.com back, if you add Rosenbum's salary.

Then who replaces Urlacher?

He had a bad season last year, but let's not act like he's not a major piece of the defense, which has a ton of holes already.

If you can trade that two for Boldin, then I will listen.

Besides -- I'm not a fan of overpaying receivers, especially guys who play next to great players on the other side.
