the game wasn't lost because of poor clock management. As a matter of fact, the only reason the game was even close was because of outstanding clock management by the Dolphins

i guess you could say running the ball and controlling the time of pos is form of clock management, however when you have 3:11 left with 2 to's and you run out of time that is very poor clock management! to blow a t.o. to avoid a delay of game while in the hurryup is crazy! even the announcer's said the colt's scored too early!!! the colts d wasnt stopping miami, miami stopped miami!!!! the best team didnt win that game, just the smartest team!!!!!
AHH!! Some real football talk. I think one key to the game was the missed FG, had he made that FG then it would have been 26-27 and they were in FG range on the last drive. That game was really determined by poor defensive play. You shouldn't have the ball for 45 min and still allow the other team to score 27 points.

it seems our safety's commit to the run too early and end up with bad angles and a simple play goes the distance we really need to straighten this out!!!

That wont help with Pennington at QB. That clown is a waste of roster space.

I am hoping Sparano replaces pennington with Henne. Henne has a much better arm than pennington.

Exactly. Even if the other team is the Colts. Manning is a great QB, but c'mon...

14 pts were done in less than a minute due to the d being out of position! we stopped them a couple of times with 3 and out's! we were bringing everybody on that blitz! we need adjustment's! our saftey's cant be on the line of scrimmage with a guy like manning!

the chargers have been peparing for the wildcat for a couple of month's now or so they say, i kinda think they will stack the line of scrimmage and runblitz us if we simply pound it at them,

it might not be as easy to run on them as it was the colt's! i'm sure turner has watched game film of the colt's game and in no way does he want to let them run like that!!

let's hope david lee implement's a play that will keep them off balance with a pass out of the cat!
hopefully he keeps pennington in the game while in the cat!!!

I agree Ted Ginn is not a deep threat. I expect Miami next year to draft a #1 WR. That would enable ginn to be moved to #2 or to the slot.
I thought they drafted two candidates this year in Brian Hartline (tOSU) and Pat Turner (USC).

Turner is a big, strong, fast receiver, and was All second-team PAC10.

Hartline blew away many of the more well known receivers in the combine, placing in the top 4 in all of the "speed" drills, except the 40 where he ran a disappointing 4.58. Still, he was considered one of the best of the underclassmen in the draft. Give him a year and he will be one of the best young receivers in the league. I wish the Colts had traded up to get him instead of Austin Collie out of BYU.

.
Believe or not a "Grind it out" offense does win football games, but you still have to stop the
other team, which the Miami defense did not do.
The only way a grind-it-out offense works in the NFL is if you have a very good defense. It, significantly, shortens the game, and the number of possessions for both teams, and usually leads to low scoring games. Both teams have less opportunities to make up for mistakes because of the time consumed on those long drives.

I don't doubt that Miami will win their share of games using this offense, but, as I said before, It won't work against the more prolific, playoff caliber teams. The Ravens, Steelers, Titans, Patriots, and Chargers type defenses won't give up 239 yards rushing. You have to be able to throw down the field to beat them.

.
Miami still had problems pushing the ball into the end zone, and that points to a lack of a red zone targets. It was hoped patrick turner could
be that red zone threat, but has not shown much
to date.[/QUOTE}

Turner has only had 2 games in the NFL. Give him a little time to adjust to the pro game. He's gonna be a keeper.

.
[QUOTE]I am also hoping Miami will start Chad Henne, who has a much better arm than Pennington. Also remember that Parcells and company have a 2-3 year plan for rebuilding the dolphins and this is only the second year.
Henne has a tremendous up-side if given the chance. And this is coming from a tOSU grad. He has amazing arm strength, and is big enough to run if he has to. I'm not quite sure why the Dolphins aren't using him as more than just a backup.

Parcells is well on his way to bringing Miami back to prominence. It just may take a little longer than most of the fans care to wait. Just competing in the AFC East is becoming much tougher than in past recent years. Let's see if Parcells is the genius we keep hearing he is.

Miami’s big, physical offensive line has the attention of the Chargers this week. San Diego allowed 148 rushing yards in their opener and 130 last week to the Ravens,

Miami lost this game because they settled for field goals instead of TD's. The Colt's defense couldn't stop anything, and yet in third and long situations they went conservative and settled for the field goal. With Manning on the other side you can not do that. You also can not give Manning, man coverage. He will beat you everytime, when you give him that look.

Hats off to Miami...they played a hell of a game. I'm a Colts fan, and I'm very concerned about our defense...they are too small and will continue to get the ball run down their throats, until they stop it.

Az could be an ugly game for the Colts.

You're concerned? We have to rely on that lame wildcat because Pennington cant throw deep and Ginn has butter fingers!

No, they settled for field goals instead of nothing.

The Colt's defense stopped Miami enough to hold them to 23 points, and they seemed to do just fine on Miami's last series.

You seem to forget that the Colts' pass defense is one of the best in the league. They set a record last year for fewest passing TDs allowed in a season (6). It is MUCH easier to run on the Colts than to pass on them. In week one, the Jaguars only completed 2 passes of more than 15 yards. Jacksonville ended up averaging 3.9 yards per pass. It is very difficult to throw down the field against the Colts.

Miami didn't go conservative just on third downs. They ran a conservative game plan, which would have worked 99% of the time. No team since '77 had won a game with so few possessions and time of possession. They would have won had they not given up the big play.

.
You also can not give Manning, man coverage. He will beat you everytime, when you give him that look.
Yep. And that, in a nutshell, is why Miami lost that game.

.

The Jaguars are no slouch at running the ball and the Colts only gave up 111 yards.

It's not that the Colts can't stop the run. It's that they can't stop the wildcat.

.
Az could be an ugly game for the Colts.
Aizona is going to really test the Colts secondary with the two best wideouts in the league. They, also have a legitimate breakaway RB in Wells. If he is healthy (and that's a BIG if), then he can cause big problems.

It's interesting that the Colts, who like tOSU players, passed on Wells. It appears, they believe Brown is faster and more durable. We'll soon see if they made the correct choice.

Regardless, no one is getting blown out. Colts win this one 33-31.
