Goodell is an a$$. I enjoyed his PR stunt last night with the "We could open the doors by Saturday and the season could official start by Wednesday 7/27 if the NFLPA agrees tonight."

He set the NFLPA up as the bad guys for not signing last night. To bad he broke labor laws in the process...

Classic PR stunt. I thought the commissioner represented both the players and the owners. I guess that was a little too ivory-tower-ish. Commissioners work for the owners in all leagues. David Stern does the best job hiding it

Good points ezg. Why waste the money on a vet when it SHOULD be spent elsewhere to stay competitive and let Ponder learn hands-on.
Yeah. I read today that the Vikes are already over the limit, cap-wise. One suggestion was Berrian...bye-bye. With that in mind, how does anyone justify more money being spent on a vet QB? Oh, getting rid of Berrian only brings them down to the cap limit...who else has to go to sign Rice? Edwards? They got some work to do...I see a lot of new, young faces in the line-up. Ponder being just the begining. I'm betting Lewis, Kliensasser, M. Williams, Basket, Shepard, and Tahi are cap victums.

<quoted text>I Cant see bring in a Vet QB How he would be any better for the offense then Ponder A Vet would have to learn Bill Musgrave new offense on the fly Where as Ponder has part of the playbook & has been learning it. even as a rookie Ponder has that jump ahead on a Vet QB not knowing this system. The Vet would be able to read the Defense better then Ponder but still would be learning this system on the fly The Vikes would be throwing the Vet to the same Wolves. A older player with no legs left to run for his life until can learn the new system. I always thought one learns best being in the game not on the side lines. Go Vikings

The problem with starting a rookie Qb is the confidence factor. They make lots of mistakes.Starting an NFL game under the present circumstances WILL NOT help.
If you struggle and with fan lack of intelligence, they get booed. If you lose the fans (see Jackass) and your confidence is also hurting, you may ruin the product.(See Childress).
I'm all for a vet signing and the Vikings will be to.
Ponder STARTS when ready.Hopefully mid-season.
I hope they get Orton because this is
DEFINITELY
CLEARLY
A TWO QB LEAGUE,injuries are often and the #1 position must be protected.
Especially in a PASS happy NFL.

Confidence could become a factor but it behooves the O/C to design a system that plays with-in the players abilities. If Ponder has ok stats, then, win or lose, he doesn't blame himself as he grows. It is a team sport. I'm ok with a vet QB but 1st you gotta clear up the money.

If a vet comes in and we're 2-6 by mid season, they'll be screaming for Ponder so, that makes sense. This lockout shit really messed things up.

If he does start day one and is good though, we'll know we finally have a franchise QB after like....forever.

Rookies historically suck.
Get the press and fans doubting you and it usually goes bad.
However,I think Ponder can over come that, very mature and intelligent.
Cap money will be a problem so we'll see
but
I firmly believe we have no back-up and
firmly
believe in two starting Qb's with the better starting regularly.

At Caesars sports book I was defending Christian Ponder when a alumni of florida state told me the only thing Ponder is known for is having Bobby Bowden fired.

That shut me up.

Of all the senior QBs coming out, Ponder is the most pro-ready. The fact that he was MVP of the Senior Bowl speaks for itself. Bowden was a good college coach but I doubt that he failed only because of Ponder. Hell, Ponder was the best he had, otherwise, as coach, he could have sat him down.

Most pro ready, Senior bowl MVP, I sounded like you trying to convince a alumni of Florida state of Ponder's NFL readiness. The alumni said what ever "it" is he doesn't have it. In game on the line situations he always choke like the American women's soccer team against Japan.

We need to get started and Ponder starts from day 1 so we know what we have. I will allow rookie mistakes but we can tell if he has promise.

They will run-blitz the hell outta Ponder, just to stop AD. So with that in mind, better hope the O/L gets better. 3 seconds to make them pay is what he needs as he is the the most accurate rookie QB coming in. Ponder will do his job if only the rest of the offense does theirs. Just run, run, pass, punt won't get it. Let's hope the O/C has something up his sleeve to help out. And if Ponder chokes like American soccer in a World Class SB, I'd be VERY happy.

Those clowns on NFLN STILL talk about McNabb being the "Perfect Fit" for the Vikes. McNabb is a good team player in the sense that he would help Ponder develope but this sounds more like a "We want to win it all now ala Brett Favre" senario to apease the aging vets on the roster. But if the extra CAP money goes to McNabb, will there even be a win now senario considering the other issues that need to be addressed????

Start Ponder.

Kanfan...

You're talking to Avant and.....he's an idiot.

Just look at his avatar and signature. He's not even giving Ponder a chance despite what he says. Why? Cause he's not a guy he picked up on. Five years ago, he said the Vikings made a monumental mistake letting fumbles Culpepper walk. Was going to bring the Lombardi to Miami and have a street named after him. Then...Tarvaris "tippy toes" Jackson was going to chalk up a string of successive pro bowls, yadda, yadda,.....ZIP!!!

This guy is like the quarterbacks he latches himself on to. He just doesn't have it and I've been listening to the dribble for five long years now.
