From an Appletonite on Barnett being somewhere where he shouldn't have been:

You do have the right to remain silent, but if you fail to cooperate with officers, they don't just have to let you go. Mr. Barnett did himself no favors by not handing over an ID or give them his name until AFTER they got tired of his non-cooperatioin and cuffed him.

Why was there so many cops?

Picture the situation. Two beat cops, call for backup in an apparent altercation. The policy for that in Appleton is for a foot patrol officers to call a patrol officer for back up.(That is 4.)

It is bar time, a call comes in at a place known to have a large number of police response (Add two more...so now you have 6 cops.)

Large number of people in that area because the bars are now sending people to the streets and you have Anduzzi's, Chadwicks,, the new Irish bar whose name slips my mind, CU Saloon, and Mill Creek all in a 1/2 block area and THEIR patrons are leaving, noticing the action. Drunk people like to find out what's going on...(Add a few more officers - now we are at 9)

The "Hot Dog Guy" is there across the street and Sal's is as well. Patrons from Speakeasy and The Bar and Park central convene to that area and notice the action. By now, there has been someone that recognizes that there are some large guys that could be Packer Players in the mix...they tell people and word spreads "Hey there is something at WET and there is some Packers involved." More people, more need for a police presence...

It is justifyable, provided there was nothing else going on. Had there been 3 VERY big guys involved i an altercation at another location, and not Packer players, ther would also have been a fairly decent response...I have seen 10 cops involved in the investigation of a fight in another bar on that opposite block.

Cops are like Boy Scouts...Be Prepared. I am glad that they are. Easy to have 20/20 vision on response and presence 5 days later.

You are looking for trouble at that time in a bar (I DON"T CARE WHERE THE BAR IS).

Simple. Oh,I decided to go to the bar have a nightcap and decided to punch the the Sh$%t out of someone.

Trouble. Ole Nick sounds and looks like pac man, an ass333wole.

As I said, Jerry Cramer just chuckled and then laughed...

Different kind of men, I suppose.

With the comish coming down on all things bad,I just wonder if barnett will see a suspension here or will the packers themselves take some disipline on Barnett. If so im assuming Hodge will take his MLB spot until he returns?

Eric,

Barnett won't be getting suspended by anyone for this. On the scale of NFL Bad Boy behavior, it's about a 3 with 10 being murder and 1 being jaywalking, which Nick has already experienced in good old racism-scented Green Bay.

Green Bay and Brown County build walls against Hispanics and people of color by designating one language 'official' and by ticketing African Americans like Barnett for jaywalking, even though the two white males Barnett was with received no ticket. They even had a city council-county representative go on the radio (in a disguised voice) and extoll the virtues of racism in the name of protecting property values. You can't make this up.

In fairness, that racist representative was voted out of office overwhelmingly in 2006 after he was exposed by a local radio station as a racist. The racist representative was busted for drunk driving a week before the November election. Not a well-run reelection operation.

You can check out the angst and anger of some Green Bay residents almost any day in the Green Bay Press Gazette on the subject of "illegal aliens." The Native-American population must be howling over the hypocricy.

Nick and all Packers players should not be in bars at 2 a.m or standing near the bar at any hour. Nothing good happens when you combine alcohol with the small and fleeting celebrity of NFL players in a nightclub setting. "Fans" who are drunk often do stupid things. Barnett and all Packers should have the foresight to keep themselves clear of situations like that.

Good post. It got better when you said Barnett should not at a bar at 2:00am. I don't care who you are, if you are our that late, you are looking for trouble.

Everyone could use refreshments, libations, etc. and I have no problem with that. But, do you really want a beer, or whatever at a nightclub at 2:00am???? Seriousl, if you are there, it is not for that, it is looking for trouble.

It happens nightly at the clubs in DC. You will never find something bad happening at a DC club at 7, 8 9, or 10, for that matter.

It is always, always in the wee hours of the morning.

You're right about D.C., and the evenings start later in D.C. than in Northeast Wisconsin. That is to say, the clubbers start clubbing after 10 p.m. in D.C. Here, they are well into their intoxicants of choice by 10 p.m.

Let's hope this is the end of Bad Boy Behavior in Green Bay for the 2007 season. IF the Packers can get by with this Barnett pushing a woman episode, they'll be ahead of the game.

Nick might want to find a lawyer, however. That person he pushed is likely to sue, mainly because Nick has deep pockets.
