Pretty clear he disappointed the new regime. I am glad to see us getting a full set of real linebackers rather than converted DEs and undersized speedsters. I did like McClain but he seemed to let the $$$ get to him and make him do dumb things...not that I have any room to talk when it comes to run ins with the law but still

You are right HC. That said a slap in the face and a change may wake him up. Good for him, bad for us if he does.

I think he let the money take away some of that Crimson Tide LB spirit. Seems like at time he wasnt even trying. This team doesnt need quiters. Only hitters.

if his agent can't get things done, it's gonna suck if we have to just plain release him without being able to trade him for picks in the draft. bet teams are going to wait as long as possible and take a chance to see if he gets released.

It will depend on how bad teams want him...I don't expect him to go anywhere until draft day. If that doesn't happen then most teams will do like you said and wait until he gets released so they don't have to pay as big a price

If his agent can get a trade done I see at best a 4th round pick but realistically a 5th rounder.

Four things I will remember from McClain's time:

1. The off-field issues came on to the field last year. He is not that bad of a LB.
2. He is the poster child for moving away from his home after entering the NFL and return when he retires. That town did not help his cause.
3. Bashed for his lack of leadership skills, yet talked back to the coaches and was suspended. Most current player on defense leaving in free agency. Telling. Maybe he was more of a leader than was given credit for by the current regime. Let's remember, Defense minded head-coach, young D. Coordinator, record breaking defense for the Raiders in a bad way. RM's "wisdom" to keep the Head Coach and D-Coord. Hmmm.
4. If Mclain goes to a team with experienced coaches like New England or Baltimore (and move out of his town), he will show that he was worthy of the #1 pick. He will do big things.

idk that anyone would trade him i'd take blount form tampa straight up trade ed dickson from ravens instead of their tenure they put on him in a straight up trade they need lbs. a 7th rd pick for him and practice squad player doesent matter to me. he might actually get better once hes out of oakland. Any team running a 3-4 defence might be able to get something out of him. he was certinly not made to be a 4-3 mlb but he sure cant play for our team. i say if nobody trades for him, dont cut him (we will be paying more for him undercap if he goes) and keep him on scout team and or inactive or ir

The Jets would give you a 5th rounder and throw a worthless QB named Tebow in as well

I agree 100%
I will add a 5th thing and that is him having a different defensive coordinator every year and anytime you change coordinators frequently like that with a young guy that is expected to be the leader of the unit, that can be hard on him mentally and affect his leadership skills in a bad way.
