I sure like everything I am reading and seeing from our new coach..The addition of another hardened ex Buckeye player with a very strong NFL record as a mentor ,coach ,and leader only adds to what may be a fantastic year...I am EXCITED. Can we say UNDEFEATED ? GO BUCKS !

Fickell is as dirty as Tressel was. Do you really think he didn't kow about all of the wrongdoing? Why would we bring back someone that was arrested just last year?

GREAT HIRE COACH FICKELL!!!! Vrabel is the kind of NFL legend who makes recruits drool over the prospect of playing for and also to look up to as a role model. The war stories, alone, justify this hire and Vrabel brings CHAMPIONSHIP material to the program. Congrats Coach Fickell and welcome back to Columbus Coach Vrabel!

Huge, huge hire for OSU. After listening to U-M fans brag about the 95 year old NFL d-coord (who rode the coattails of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed) they brought in has helped their recruiting, imagine how well a 35 year old NFL guy who played under the 2 best NFL head coaches (Cowher and Belichick) of the past 10-15 years will do when he meets a recruit and flashes those Super Bowl rings.

Of course, the OSU critics and local contrarians will continue to question any and every action OSU takes, but this move is definitely a step in the right direction. Mike Doss will be the next great former Buckeye to take a significant role in the program.

I hope Vrabel realizes he's working with a lame duck, Meyer has agreed to talk to OSU this fall about next year (he will take the job of course) and he is going to make a lot of money next year and have the power to finally rid us of the Bollman's and who knows who else....

Fickell making all right moves right now. I'd love to see him succeed.

Earle Bruce in his first year (following that forgettable Woody Hayes last season ending in the Gator Bowl) took a sophomore quarterback all the way to the Rose Bowl and then within a fourth quarter dosage of "Student Body Right" by USC tailback Charlie White of a national championship.

Of course, no sophomore quarterback is on the Buckeyes 2011 roster who has game experience like what Earle had. Braxton will need to grow up fast for Luke to have his chance and a couple of receivers will have to emerge. But if Luke Fickell can engineer anything like what Earle did in his first year, he can be coach here for a long time!

Greetings Bugeye Nation!!!!! Mike Vrabel has been a wonderful pro who especially has shined as a TE in goalline situations. I seem to remember him catching several passes for TD's. Excellent. Wonderful. Thrilling. Cheers for Mr. Vrabel.

However, I do find it surprising that OSU would hire someone who got arrested a few months back for theft in a casino in Indiana. I have not heard or seen any reporting of that situation being discharged so I personally feel that the last hire that OSU should make now is someone who has been recently charged with theft, who termed it a "misunderstanding". It very well could have been. However, I believe that especially now every hire should not have recent arrests. Evidently integrity at OSU is just yakk. What matters is what we say, not what we do. Evidently they are even not believing their own yakk now. Public perception of both their fanbase and the public at large is meaningless to the self absorbed powers that be at THE OSU. You know it.
I know it. Sorry but you cant make this crap up.
Dumb. You know it. I know it. WHOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Jeff, I wouldn't be so sure about about the lame duck thing. If the Buckeyes put the distractions aside and have a solid year on the field I think Luke keeps the job.

It's intersting; down there in Florida the Gators have an unproven young (same age as Fickell I think) coach in Muschump who as the D-Coordinator for Texas last year coached one of the worst defenses in the country with some of the best talent in the country. Just on their defensive credentials alone; I'll take Fickell.

Fair concern. One would think that exploring the situation (arrested in April 2011) was one of the delays in announcing this long-rumored hire. We'll find out at the press conference.

However, I would point out that this "theft" reportedly involved Vrabel walking out of a casino store with bottles of beer, which (since any theft of any value from a casino in Indiana is a "felony") was felonious. No public intoxication, he was cooperative, etc. He might have felt it was "comped" to him under his deal with casino, was charged to his room, etc. Anyway, I don't think walking out with bottles of beer in a brightly lit casino with cameras all around when you are not drunk is indicative of a criminal intent.

I think the bigger issue is for him to stop visiting casinos, once he leaves the pro world.

But, like I said, fair concern. Let's wait to hear.

I agree with you 100%
Meyer didn't purchase Herbstreits home to have a summer get-a-away.
Luke may have the opportunity to be on Urban's staff.
Along with Stan Drayton who, was with Urban. I actually believe Drayton
was brought in by Smith for future purposes.
He was not in the mold of a Tressel type of Asst.. Someone who brings something
to the table. Tressel preferred people like Hazell, Bollman, and my favorite Siciliano
who, either had no experience or whos coaching abilities are limited.
Tressels ego would not allow someone with perhaps better experience especially on offense.

What "court date"? There's been an arrest and he's out on a whopping $600 bail. Hardly earthshaking, even in sleepy Switzerland County Indiana.

OK Why do people keep on believing the rumor that Meyer bought the house the Herbie owned which has been proven to be false. Real Estate purchases are public domain records. If this was true some reporter would have splashed it all over the internet by now seeing how these RUMORS started in December of last year. Find one article with proof of these claims that UM has bought a home here before the date of this post and I'll eat my shoe.

Great to hear that we are employing coaches who actually have battle experience, and not more scheming, bible-thumping politicians.
Go Bucks.
