Wasn't Catcher in the Rye banned at one time?

The word "banned" is misleading, the US government does not ban books. Schools and communities have challenged books and in many cases removed them from their libraries. Thousands of titles have been challenged in one place or another over the decades, from the Bible to Where's Waldo. At ala.org you can get a list of the most frequently challenged books (the ALA asks libraries to let them know when a book is challenged.)
