Watching the game yesterday, I couldnt believe the insanity of the play calling. It was obvious that Raye was not the man for the job and Im not looking for blame but it was just obvious that the niners were so predictable and were calling the same failed plays over and over and not getting anywhere. Never seen anything like it before. Last week was a much better game because of the play calling and I think, due to the failed communications, that Alex Smith was able to call his own plays that made the difference. If this is true then indeed the 9ers have no where to go but up without Raye. Johnson is the logical person to give the play calling a shot as hes been with the 9ers and knows the team. Go 9ers!!

Raye was not what they needed, but the fault of this team lies in their foolish drafting and bad evaluating. Everybody knew Aaron Rodgers was going to be a real good QB and Alex Smith was untested in the pro formation and a big gamble. This isn't 20/20 hindsight but everybody also knew DeSean Jackson was going to be a special player, yet they overlooked him twice, in favor of Kentwan Balmer and Chilo Rachal, both busts. No doubt passing over Dez Bryant twice will eventually prove to be foolish as well.

No, the real problem with the Niners is drafting the right players.

I agree that Kentwan Balmer was a huge bust and even his college coach agreed that he was completely raw...did not know how to play....and making a project of him was not worth a #1 draft pick, Nate Davis also turned out not to be a good pick even though both these guys had incredible talent but they just couldnt transfer them onto a NFL field. This years #1 picks, Ilupati and Anthony Davis just might be the answer to our O-line, time will tell but the play calling had to change so maybe now whoever is at QB will have a much better game. I would also like to see the other two RB's more in the mix and hopefully Johnson will get them involved. Smith and Crabtree need to work harder together. I still cant believe Sundays game. Maybe we need to go back to West Coast Offense?

No, you need the right QB for a west coast offense (Fouts, Montana, Ken Anderson, etc.) Nor do they have the Rice or Solomon type of receiver to run the slants. With this personnel, Singletary has the right idea of mixing it up but the way they implement it is too predictable.

If he doesn't turn it around, look for Gruden to be coaching here next year. After all, he learned offense from Holmgren, who learned from Walsh.

They are too predictable and I would like to see more passing on 1st or 2nd downs rather than being 3rd and long all the time. I know Sing likes to run and play "smashmouth" and hopefully that will change this week now that Raye is out. Johnson, being a QB coach, might go to the air more often now that hes OC but it remains to be seen what Sing decides. I agree that if he doesnt win the division he will be out and Gruden just might be in line. Lets hope for the best. What do you think of Carr? If Smith is benched due to less than average play, They will start Carr, I dont think they will but if they do they say he plays similar to Smith but Ive never seen him play when he was the Texans. Sure he got sacked too much but thats the Oline's fault.

You're right, it's hard to judge Carr from his time in Houston because he was constantly running for his life. But giving him a shot might not be a bad idea, if only to inspire Smith more. If they lose to Atlanta, it's going to take a near miracle to finish 8-8. If they win, they still have five left with division rivals, plus the Raiders are beatable, so it's possible.
