No takers, no deadlines

The Vikings continue to shop former No. 1 draft choice Troy Williamson, but that doesn't mean they're in a hurry to trade him.

This is sounding like everything I have dreaded... Chili Willy staying away from high price free agents. Must be an agreement he made with Count Wilf... I can hear it now; "don't spend any money and I'll let you keep your job when we move the team."
If we don't bring any help in (and we need a lot) I am not talking the Bollingers of the world, we are going to be facing a serious crisis this year. Fan's won't go to the games and there will be black-outs... it will give The Count every reason to move. If he moves he will be hunted.

No takers for Troy Sissorhands? You mean nobody wants to kick themselves in the nads, and pay for the privilege? How surprising...

Maybe we could swing a deal with the Raiders again? Maybe a five year deal with Green Bay? I agree... cut him.

I think the vikings were stupid for drafting him. Oh wait thats right the offensive line coach was head coach then. I think Spielman is the right guy now. Get what you can outta Troy maybe even a 3rd round pick woot. I say the vikes need to move up to get an impact player in the draft. Mckelvin would help us get off the bottom of the league in passing def same with Harvey. If either one were available at 17 I would jump for joy. If they can get Mckelvin they can move Griffin or Winfield to safety. I think they would be better off there. As for drafting 6 foot speedster that cant catch the ball when it hits them in the hands. I really like Devin Thomas in the second round. He has a great size speed combo. I would say he is a faster version of D. Bowe. They dont need any more slot receivers. They have wade and allison. I would also like to see them draft a Tight End that is worth a damn. Davis has a great size speed strength combo. I believe is someone is willing to give up to a second round pick for chester taylor do it. The talent a RB this year is very good. Taylor fumbles the ball way to much. Its time to give AD the bulk of the carries. If they can get a CB DE WR and TE with there first 4 picks we'll be in good shape. Maybe Flacco will be available in the third. That would be nice. I think they still need some help on the O-line and I hope they address that in Free Agency. I dont think safety is as big of issue as people say considering they have 2 playing corner.

Geez, I hear that we might go after a guy name Lemon from Miami. Nice move CHILLY you idiot!!!
Trade a 3rd or 4th rounder to Philly for McNabb then sign Stallworth to a contract. Jerry Porter had problems with the raiders, what makes you think he will do the same thing here. The Bears might keep Berrian because they release Mushin Mohammad the other day so he might be out. Williamson, can't catch a cold nor a football should already been cut after dropping that pass where he was 25 yards down field against Denver. I would of cut him after the game and have him find his own ride back instead of taking the team charter. LMAO!!!

Thanks for the story and clip, Arch.

As for Williamson, a 6th rounder would be a lot better than dropping him. Maybe land another Birk.

Count Wilf. That's a new one. The Vikes have spent a lot on keeping their players with large extensions, not to mention Hutch, Richardson, Winfield, Sharper, Longwell, Leber, Wade, PWilly, and Dwight Smith. They have done a great job of working bonus money and front-end contracts to keep a healthy cap. To suggest, as the rest of the lemmings do, that Wilf is cheap is a joke. Check out the facility and the locker room.
Where is the money not being spent? Last year's F/A crop was crap for our needs, and the player we focused on turned down a better offer. So the sam people that complain about him being cheap go on to complain about overpaying Shiancoe. It just doesn't add up.
The Vikes have a league leading $20 mil this year. If they fail to make offers next month, then complain. They can spend or at least bid high on a starting safety and top WR. Maybe a DE, though thanks to franchising, Justin Smith is the only guy worth paying big for. An argument can be made for Odom. But there are matches this season that fit. I think there will be enough options out there to satisfy the grumblers. I think the team will spend, but not just to satisfy whiners.
If I'm wrong and the front office sits on their hands, then raise hell. Until then, the overall past does not justify all the whining.

Dave, if you think you have a reason to think that Philly will trade McNabb for a 3rd or 4th rounder, please explain. They are asking way too much for him. A 3rd rounder would be an afterthought.
Why Chilly is an idiot for looking at Lemon is beyond me. Lemon is generally considered a legitimate backup QB. Not my choice, but hardly a surprise his name would come up.
Let the pros do their jobs, including giving ample time for Jackson to develop, and relax a bit.
The Childress and Wilf ripping has gotten so old. At least find a somewhat valid reason for calling names. McCombs and Green left us a franchise that was screwed up, from the ground up. Wilf has been open and honest about the team being rebuilt and asked for patience.
Because of Green and Tice, Childress was forced to spend too much energy on a whacked out locker room, a prima donna QB who hoaxed and forced his way off the team, screwing us at the same time by refusing to be traded for a better deal. He took a lot of unwarranted heat, and his first-year coach mistakes were overblown by people who couldn't wait to criticize his every move. He and the team improved considerably last year. There is good reason to expect more improvement this year. I'm sure you are frustrated by a lot of things that could have been done better. But frustration comes when you rebuild instead of looking for a quick fix. I think we are on the road to having a team that will compete and contend year after year. Jackson and Cook are certainly gambles, but those who say that the gamble won't pay are only speculating. Their second year as starters may well show us that the gamble paid off.

I think that we should trade him. I mean he has been nothing but trouble since we got him, he's not helping T.J. get any better only worse

He's a complete drag for our Team.

you know what i think about all of this?

i think that CHILDRES ****** us up big time

the last three seasons we had with mike tice we went 9-7 8-8 and 9-7
with childress we went 6-10! 8-8
we made a retarded mistake from tradeing tice

tice went to the Jaxenvile (sp) and they made it to the playoffs!!

Not quite Les Steckel territory, but yes, I have wondered where Tice was, wondering if he might be available. Wow, what a horrible thought. However, the guy did more, or at least as much, with less $ and actually appeared to care. Perhaps had his O coordinator, to some degree, successfully mold his offensive philosophy to the strengths of his team.
That is, as opposed to running out a gadget play or two here and there.

If you really want to compare the two, at least make it apples to apples. In Tice's first two years he was 6-10, and 9-7. Childress is 6-10, and 8-8 in his first two years. If Williamson, who was drafted by Tice, could catch, we win the Denver game and then the records are identical. Also, I still feel that we won the Chiefs game, what with the TD that the ref didn't count and all...

And lets not forget, we beat the Super Bowl champs by 24 points.

Thanks for some needed logic, Curly. Childress had to spend his 1st year restoring some sanity to a locker room that Green and TICE had turned into Romper Room.*I wonder how many people remember Romper Room?

Some guy wrote, "tice went to the Jaxenvile (sp) and they made it to the playoffs!!"
Big whoop. A custodian went to the Giants and they won the Super Bowl!! Del Rio, God bless him, brought Jacksonville to the playoffs. Give credit where it's due. Tice may have done wonders as an assistant coach, but that has nothing to do with his coaching record at Minnesota. It's the Peter Principle. Tice might make a fine head coach some day, but he wasn't qualified to coach the Vikes.
