There's no place like home. Of course that means something entirely different for Bears quarterbacks talking about Soldier Field than it did when Dorothy longed for Kansas.

That is a tough November. Not to mention playing on the road in September in warm climates and then playing 3 games at home in December with only 3 days rest between Jacksonville and NO. The fans and the
Bears get the shaft on that one. Good season not to get season tickets.

TWO TYPOS (Not in tis column)

1. Trib/Bearshomepage headline says "Reports pick the Bears' 2008 games" It should be "reporters."

2. Rick Morrissey is listed as a reporter, when he's a condescending, prickish, pompous punk with a grudge who spouts opinions with very little fact.

Richard J, please do us all a favor: hit that caps lock key and use proper punctuation. And for chrissake, this Rosenbloom's "plane is boarding" spiel has gotten tiresome. Come up with some original material, would ya?

As far as the season goes, it all depends. Depends on the draft, Rex's psyche, Benson's shape. Could be a tough season or could surprise anyone. That's why all the predictions at this point are just that - predictions. Nonetheless, the schedule is out and as any media outlet would, the Trib has to come out with some sort of analysis. Disagree with things Haugh said? Your prerogative. But cant necessarily argue with objectivity - Haugh has been of the staunchest supporters of the Bears' strategy over the past two years. And no, I am not Haugh's wife.

I believe the Bears played on Monday night in St. Louis the year they went to the Super Bowl 2 years ago, not 2003.

David is right. It is going to be a long season. We have not improved at all this offseason and we still (for the past 60 years since Luckman) do not have a QB. We have no RB and a high school level of talent at WR. Need I mention an archaic OLINE. Angelo is a putz.

At this point in the off-season, what teams really have improved since the last game of '07? Green Bay? Nope - Favruh gone...Detroit? Nope, not that I know of...Minn? only if paying way too much for Berrian is an upgrade. Can't think of many teams that really improved considering the draft hasn't occurred yet.

This team looks like it's going to be a retro, late 70's team that will stink.

Hester starring as "Walter Payton"

Rex Grossman as "Bob Avellini"

Urlacher and Briggs as "Plank" and "Fencik"

Everyone else is too mediocre to list but you get the idea..

Is Mccaskay back? You would think so based on the Bears off season.
Its going to be a long season....

The famous Arizona Cardinals game (with Denny Green's hilarious meltdown) was also on Monday night in 2006.

David makes an excellent point about the Bears' braintrust relying too heavily on the draft. You certainly don't see draft picks being lauded as the reason why the Pats are in the Super Bowl every other year. They go and spend money on talent that doesn't have to be taught how to play in the NFL.

I'm not saying all hope is lost, it's just farther away than this coming February.

This is complete speculation as to what will or could happen. Nobody even knows what the final roster will look like for the Bears this season, or for that matter, the rest of the league. I do not think it is by any means close to accurate to make an assessment out of these games before the draft is completed and rosters filled out.

Honestly, if you try to evaluate now what the Bears will do, it will only frustrate you....just last season the Bears were expected to be right back in the Super Bowl and look what happened: they did not even challenge for the playoffs. Look for the changes that will come through the draft, and revamping the O-Line somewhat to make a key impact on the Bears' offense this year. I have the feeling that their will be serious improvement on last year's horrible numbers for sacks, hurries, and interceptions, due to younger and better offensive line play.

"Hard to see that the Bears got better since the last day of 2007"??? It is much more accurate to say that they've gotten worse through attrition (at least the loss of Berrian) at wide-out and at QB, until we know who Griese's replacement is on the depth chart. They've only gotten weaker, regardless of what their CYA GM and the spin-doctor/meister, alibi-offering, sleepwalker of a big-talker coach say publicly.

If the Bears can snag a first string tackle, running back, guard, quarterback and safety out of the draft, they should be primed for a playoff run. Oh yeah - anybody know where they can pick up an NFL caliber starting wide receiver since they don't currently have one on the roster?

I totally agree with the fact the Bears have done nothing in free agency and continue to decline with reguards to skill players. I don't agree with letting Berrian go and to a division rival no less!
Until the McCaskets quit trying to burry the team their founder Papa Bear worked so hard to make great, Chicago may never win another Super Bowl. Let's face facts...Michael McCaskey knows less about fielding a winning team the Bozo the clown! Quit being cheap and pay good players good money and learn to find people who really can evaluate talent and then listen to them.
Draft Mendenhall, Joe Flacco, and 2 stud O-line men and take some chances with receivers. Deal away Busted Benson and use his salary to pay real players like Urlacher and Hester. I just hope for once the Bears brass will pay for good players and get rid of those that aren't.
For the Love of all that is Bears......Make the fans PROUD!!!!

Trade Urlacher to move up in the draft to get Matt Ryan! Give us something to hope for.

Regardless of the schedule, da Bears would have problems cuz of their lack of: QB, O line,D line, RB, D coord., D backs, receivers, etc. 4-12 sounds about right.
