Although I do understand the needs and the logic of drafting an offensive lineman with their first round pick, the quarterback situation here in Chicago is pathetic, they should draft Chad Henne, Joe Flacco, or the obvious Matt Ryan (if he falls that far, which is doubtful). Running back would be another key pickup in the draft (Rashard Mendenhall, Steve Slaton, Kevin Smith) since Cedric Benson is an obvious bust.

I agree with you that Benson is a bust and although I would rather see them pick an O-lineman with the 14th pick I wouldn't be upset if they went with Mendenhal. As far as the QB situation, let's see if Orton has improved at all in his time on the bench or if Grossman finally got his head out of his rear . The crop of QB's available in the draft wont help them this year and none of them are ranked very highly.

How about Otah in round 1, then maybe grab Henne if around in round 2. What about adding Alexander to our RB corps and not having to draft one?

What don't the Bears understand that in order to be a good team, you need a good quarterback? It's amazing how all the good teams get it.

I agree with drafting Otah in the 1st but I wouldn't draft a Qb in the 2nd round rather wait and see who becomes available next off season or in next years draft If Grossman or Orton doesn't step up this year we'll have a pretty high pick anyway. And in no way would I bring in Alexander he runs soft and is past his time behind our line he would get killed.Draft one of these backs with some speed and if Benson don't step up put the kid in and let him go at it

I think they should take Mendenhal. No offensive lineman is going to provide offense next year. Cedric needs 5 semi trucks to be some what affective. Plus there is a lot of depth at the offesive line postion in this draft. Mendenhal could become a play maker.

If history has shown us anything, it's that the QB is almost IMPOSSIBLE to draft with ANY clue for the NFL...The Manninigs are CLERLY the exception to MOST of the elite QB's BRADY... ROMO... BREES... HASSELBACK... ANDERSON... GARCIA... KITNA... BULGER... were ALL undrafted or "mid-round maybe's" - even now a VERY old WARNER STILL outplayed one of the highest rated QB's of recent drafts, LIENART... Other recent VERY high rated "can't miss" QB's include: ALEX SMITH... VINCE YOUNG... AND of course REX GROSSMAN! The Bears SHOULD definately "get" a QB - but they absolutely should NOT "draft" one... They shoulkd draft what almost always prooves a sure thing - an elite rated offensive lineman (first)- then one of SEVERAL solid RB's who will remain (and who ALL are pretty much equal potential (same as RYAN GRANT; THOMAS JONES; MARION BARBER types)...

Take the vastly improved offensive line; with the "old" RB format of a TOUGH grinder downs 1 & 2 - THEN on 3rd down bring in Benson, and flank out Hester opposite Bradley (speed threats)-with 2 solid tight ends Olson mid-cross and Clark to intially block and short... THAT will ALLOW whichever QB is most CLUTCH under PRESSURE (the REAL QB talent that's NEVER measured at the combine - although ORTON has shown some potential in THAT regard...)and if the Bears D can stay healthy - THEN your talking possible CONTENDER...

FORGET DRAFTING A QB - if everything else works there's ALWAYS a GARCIA; WARNER; ETC.. to go GET...

This Defense if heathy is till one of the TOP 3 in the league... Mix it with a solid offensive line and run game deserves one more shot, before the team just starts "rebuilding" and developement of any ROOKIE QB (even the BEST take a few years...)

I think in the first round we should get a RB like Mendenhall, in the second round get that QB that we haven't seen since 85 like Flacco, or Henne. I think we should start to rebuild now!!

The tough thing about where we are is that if mendenhall doesn't go before our pick or is our pick, then detriot will snatch him up and we'll hae to play him twice a year for the next ten years. We need offensive linemen, there's no way around it and all the good ones will be off the board by the time our second round pick comes up. I truly believe that orton deserves a shot, he played really well the last two games of the season, when ron turner finally let him throw a pass for more than 4 yds. Let's not forget that we really haven't seen too much of garrett wolfe and we did use a third rd pick for him just last year. Maybe it's because I'm biased (ND fan), but I really don't see why chad henne is all of a sudden everyone's favorite after matt ryan. Brohm is going to be the steal of the draft, becasue we can get him for cheap as a mid- level second rounder.

There is so much that the Bears need at this point. I believe they need a stronger running back. Mike Hart would fit that bill

Then again I agree with Adam... Chad Henne would be a great asset to a terrible QB roster.

Draft Mendenhal and let Orton try QB. He could do no worse.

Take the biggest, meanest, quickest body you can get at 14 and then another in the second round. Use a 5th round on the OConnell kid, the 6'6" QB with a better arm than anyone we have now. Find a pounder in round 3 who likes to run between tackles. Let's start playing Bears football

If the bears take Jamal Charles from texas I'm gonna be very upset. As of late Texas running backs have not done good in the NFL. For example Ricky Williams and Cedric Benson. Get a Linemen!!!

I laugh at the thought Orton is the savior at quarterback. Get some young muscle up front, both on defense and offense...find a burner for rb position in round 3 or 4. Lineman win games, not quarterbacks. As the line can stop any all-star quarterback (a la Giants in the Superbowl, and a weak running back can fall down for 4 yards behind a nasty O-line every down) The wide receivers are very capable, and is not the weak spot of this team. Save the rounds 5-7 to get some decent raw talent at quarterback (Woodson), possibly 2 of them and see who can rise. This season is not a rebuilding year...but the Bears need to see the picture for 3-4 years down the road...O-line and Quarterback need at least 2-3 years to develop and never happen overnight or in a single draft.

Not that anyone said he was but why can't Orton be savior at QB?
