Luck a part of turning Belichick into a genius

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

PHOENIX We interrupt the wall-to-wall deification of Bill Belichick, Mad Genius and Builder of Dynasties, to make this conveniently overlooked point: Wild and crazy: Matt Light of the Patriots faces questions ...

Bellycheat is a loser who got lucky with a few decent players. As soon as they retire the new england faithful will run bellycheat out on a rail. Hackitz did prove that bellycheat is nothing without brady.

I have to admit this article is well writen and has some valid points. I think you can be a great coach but if you dont have the tools to execute those plans then it doesnt matter how good you are.

Tom gave BB a tool to work with and to build the franchise around.

"Steve" The pats will be remembered as one of the greatest teams in History, send Peyton a memo to start taking notes on how to win because he got lucky once.

I feel the article does tell some truth, because Belichick was not having the greatest coaching career up until the current Tom Brady era.

However, I would give him some type of credit b/c ,yea he all of a sudden had all this talent to work with but, he KNEW what to do with it all. Unlike other coaches who constantly wasted great rosters.

I'll always like and root for the Colts, but I have to admit that the Patriots are far and away the better team.

Wow! Congratulations Bob. I am for the Colts but the pathetic carping an whining is just too much sometimes. You sure know how to gag and hog-tie mindless Colts fans who hate for the sake of hating. So is this an either/or proposition?

I believe the more accurate assessment here is that BB learned something somewhere along the line. The Bledsoe injury may have been the incident that turned on the light bulb but subsequently he has been/become the master of NFL coaching. In the NFL the talent across the teams is pretty even. Great coaches know how to maximize the talents of their players...bad coaches don't.

And it is remarkable how great coaches get great players and bad coaches don't...in all venues...very interesting phenomena. And great teams get all the luck...it's just not fair!!!...sob, sob...

Coaches get waaaay to much credit for when things go right, and are the first in line to get fired when things go bad.

How about some accountability to the PLAYERS that are actually ON THE FIELD!!

"My favorite example is Mike Shanahan, the Denver Broncos coach. When John Elway was his quarterback, he won back-to-back championships. Since Elway retired after the 1999 Super Bowl, the Shanahan-led Broncos have not won a playoff game."

You know Kravitz, if you're going to write a story, atleast get all of your facts straight!!! The Broncos beat the Patriots the same weekend the Colts lost to the Steelers during the 2005 playoffs. They were led by Jake Plummer. Folks, this is BAD journalism.

Two things Bob:

#1 Winners make their own luck. They tend to "seem" luckier than everyone else, but that is because they work harder and smarter to create the conditions under which "luck" can happen.

#2 If he had one extraordinary season and one Super Bowl win with an exceptional collection of players he had inherited from a previous regime, that would be luck. When you win multiple Super Bowls with an incredible winning percentage, all the while shuffling players and assistant coaches in and out of the organization, that ain't luck - that is called a system. Belichick wins because he has a system that works, and an organization that allows him to work his system.

And no, I'm not a Patriots fan, just a reluctant admirer of what they have done.

so Kravitz says Tony is a hypocrite & Belecheck is a genius.
One’s an honest man how has everyone’s respect.
the other is a man who is rude and cheats both personally and professionally.
I reckon with his new radio show the only way to get people to call is to be controversial & the heck with the truth, This man is a jerk……

The point is this: In all sports, but especially in football, we vastly overstate the importance of the head coach.

Are you kidding me? I think it is very arguable that Head coach in football maybe the most important coaching job of any sport to impact a game maybe second only to Baseball. Than that makes Vince Lombardi lucky, Chuck Knoll of the 70's steelers. Hell Tony Dungy was lucky last year because his players finally performed. You can hate Belichick all you want but, to call attribute all his success to luck is just idiotic. How about the film sessions with his father where he started learning how to break down film at the age of 7. Maybe it was the gameplanning for the St Louis Rams in Super Bowl 36 that gave a than very ordinary Tom Brady a chance to win that game. Brady certainly wasn't lighting up the NFL that year when Bledsoe went down. If Tony Dungy never won another super bowl again would you say he was lucky and not a smart coach? No not at all. I may not like him or the team but, I know year in and year out the Colts are always going to be good and one of the best coached teams in the NFL. That is not luck because a team can have all the talent in the world and not reach it's potential without a head coach that knows how to harness that talent. Love him or hate him, Belichick deserves his accolades for what he has accomplished.

If there's no tuck rule, there's no first super bowl win. (I don't care what the rule book says-- that was a fumble.) If Carolina's kicker doesn't shank their last kickoff out of bounds, they don't get the last second field goal for that super bowl win. They're definitely lucky.

Hey Kravitz! When are you moving to Mass? I figure since you think our coach is a hypocrit and that Belichick is a genius you may as well jump on the Pats bandwagon.

I bet enough people who love the Colts, like me, will be more than happy to donate a few buck to rent a Mayflower truck to transport your sorry butt to Worcester.

I still say the Pat's luckiest moment this year was San Diego whipping the Colts. The Pat's biggest challenge in the playoffs, the Colts, were sitting at home again watching NE basically get a bye right into the Super Bowl.

Now you are an expert on the Patriots success. Just like "the Chargers don't stand a chance". You are ate up by the Patriots, just like the rest of the idiot Colt's fans who don't understand the definition of underachvier.

Why in the world, with only one columnist in the entire city, are you even there? Neither of these teams, or their fan base, has a lot of subscriptions to the Indianapolis Star. Since you are trying soooooo hard to be a national journalist, I just hope you find a job with another media outlet.

So far in the past week you have denigrated the head football coach of the Colts as a poor father, and christened Eric Gordon as ready for the pros. I know you didn't see the UConn game as you were packing for the Phoenix gig, but he is not ready, and now the nation knows it too. As for Coach Dungy, your opinions on his being a father may be the most useless trash you have put pen to paper, and you have had some real garbage. Your resignation will be happily accepted at the end of the day. No, make that immediately!!!!

Kravitz you truely are an idiot. I am sure you had to think hard to get article. I can se you now sitting at your desk thinking...."Hmm what can I write about....I know, great players win games not coaches...and what better way to do that in Indy but to write about New England" Please remove Tom Bradys' jock from your mouth, and write an article for the Indianapolis people. You could write about the Pacers, you could write about the bum sleeping on 16th. anf MLK, just do not write stories about how great Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are. I for one am going to stop reading your stories in hopes that the Indy Star will fire your sorry butt. Jump on the Patriots band wagon and ride it East young man, and get the heck out of Dodge. Remeber you are in Colts country so find a player and write about what he does in the off season, I would rather read that than Tom Brady/ Bill Belichick genius. GET A LIFE

What, no examination of Belicheat's personal life? There's a lot more of interest in Belicheat's personal life than in Dungy's.

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Virgo

If the December sales are calling you, you'd better work out a budget before you leave the house. Otherwise, you'll be tempted to use your credit card first and only consider the cost of your purchase later on. Even so, you could track down some great bargains now, provided you don't get carried away and buy items that you don't really want simply because you're astonished by the amount of money you'll save in buying them. But you'll save even more money if you don't buy them!
