the jets first priority is a coach.my opinonthe best canidate they fired next is retired holmgren and next they hope gets fired gruen tampa bay,if none of the above rex ryan of baltimore he has jet genes.kellen clemens is potential.bret favre is a ghost rider in sky.there is a lot of young guns coming out this draft.i like the guy of texas tech.that is my route and a running back and a speed reciever with size not a huge task to make the playoffs.

I'm OK with giving Clemens a shot but I think they'll need to have plan B close by!

Wow, no one here gives clemens any hope. He was our starter for most of last year behind a terrible O line. Since favre was traded to the Jets, I still wanted pennington. With the upgrades on O line I felt that pennington would have been great with this offense. But he was never given the chance and now look what he's done. Kellen was a great qb at oregon with a great O line. I think we're more desperate for a high DB draft than a QB, anyone agree?

I agree with GVC. This kid hasn't gotten a fair shake. Nobody seems to remember that he won 3 games last year and Chad won 1 with no O-line and no deep threat. Writing this guy off is crazy, this kid has an arm but no one to throw the ball to. Very few QB's come into the league ready to play NFL football. Peyton Manning in his rookie season threw 28 INTS. That's right folks, 28. The Colts went 3-13 and people were screaming about it. I'm not saying he's a Manning but let's give him a shot. We need a DB and move Lowery back to safety where he belongs.

I can see it now. Next year, when Mangini leads the Browns into the playoffs, all the Jets second-guessers will be saying, "why did they get of him? I always liked Mangini."

As for Clemens, you really can't judge him by that first half-season. Many great quarterbacks have had awful first seasons, including Aikman, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Elway was mediocre, and a few others.

What about Brett Ratliff? He looked far better than Clemens during the preseason. How come he is not even being mentioned as a potential candidate for QB. I would think if Farve retired, and I sure hope he does, that Ratliff should be given an equal opportunity as Clemens for the starting QB. I thought Ratliff showed lots of poise and big play potential, and I for one, would like to see him win the starting QB.

Umm, Clemens had his shot in 2007 and he looked awful. I'd rather see Ratliff taking the snaps than Clemens again.

I would hope that Clemens picked up more from Pennington than Favre. The Jets don't need another quarterback blindly flinging passes up hoping his receivers will make him look good. That being said, it's possible with an improved o-line that Clemens might be more effective but Oregon has always been a QB-friendly school (remember, Joey Harrington went there) and therefore I have my doubts.

Let Favre ride off into the sunset. Draft a shutdown CB and WR with some speed (give Clowney and Stuckey more touches), figure out how to give Washington more touches and let Clemens and Ratliff play for the starting role.

People forget that the reason they brought in Favre late last year was that last pre-season Chad wasn't clearly outplaying Clemens. They were both inconsistent. This will be Clemens 4th year. If he is ever going to be ready this should be the year.

Anyone who judges Clemens in '07 can't be taken seriously. Clemens won 3 games of the Jets' total of 4. That means Pennington won 1! Look what CP did this year with a good O-Line & smart play calling. Let's see what Clemens, Ratlife & Ainge can do in the preseason.

Yep--I agree with Drew's post above, and I agree with stevec818 above....I really think Brett Ratliff could be the guy, he outperformed Clemens by far, and the Clemens/Chad competition was a draw at best. All this revision of history is making me sick. This whole Favre/Mangini coverage has become some bad TMZ/Perez Hilton drama. Everyone called for Chad's head, and everyone called for Mangini to be fired...Now that Miami is in the playoffs, and now that Cleveland REALLY wants Mangini, they're both all of a sudden these sympathetic figures who everyone in the NY press wants to portray with these glowing halos. It is what it is. Bottom line--hire a competent coach, let Favre go, and give Ratliff his shot.

Clemens is terrible, this is his last of his
contract and he should be traded, he is terrible,
quit making excuses for him. I pray to God he is
not the Jets starter in 2009, if he is I hope the
Jets have a back up plan. Because you can kiss goodbye the 2009 season. We will be 4 and 12 with Clemens.

I hear the Garcia is going to be available from Tampa. Free Agent. Another Old man, but I believe that he is a bit better then Farve at this time in their careers. Come on JETS give him another shot too.
