The Vikings apparently are collecting them. And they are very good at it. Had the powers that be chosen to collect, say, decorative thimbles or rare coins, the results might be less impressive.

This addition won't just create a quarterback competition, but during the season likely a quarterback controversy. This doesn't usually bode well for a team with Super Bowl aspirations (see the 2008 Minnesota Vikings). He may be marginally better than Tarvaris but that remains to be seen-- after all this is a 31 year old guy who hasn't started 16 games over his entire career. Also, Tarvaris actually had over a 93 quarterback rating in the regular season, and in his five starts he played four teams that eventually made the playoffs and the fifth team was the Packers at Green Bay on opening day when he was injured. Had the moronic coaching staff left TJ in during the year, they would have had a better gauge of his long term abilities. TJ though is injury prone and has yet to show us he can stand up under pressure. I still think they are waiting on Favre to get his release in the Spring and we'll end up with him under center in September.

Retired players do not get released. Jets will hold rights forever.

This article is dead on. Its funny how they one thing that they vikings need is So OBVIOUS but they go into the off season acting like its no biggie. Trust me Childress you're not discovering the next great star that nobody else saw or something in Rosenfels. It's not as if this guy's only been in the league for 2 or 3 years and has a huge upside. They guy is freaken 30 years old and been in the league for 7 years!!!! If he's going to be good don't you think he should have been good by now???? This is NOT math people, two negatives does not equal a positive. You take two idiot QB's and put them together it's not going to give you a championship caliber team. If they Vikings wanted to get a Texans QB, they should have gotten David Carr when the Texans got rid of him. He at least has an upside if playing for the right team and the right system. Look at what he did to the Vikes last year playing for the Giants. He did better than Eli Manning did. If they don't pick up anyone else and these are the QB's we have going into next season....oh my gosh. How long are we viking fans going to have to wait to EVER see the Vikings win a superbowl???? Maybe Childress has a secret agreement with Wilf that he will never get fired or something...thats why he's taking his time giving Jackson and soon rosenfels plenty of second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, infinity chances to prove themselves. If this keeps up, Jackson will be trying to prove himself right into retirement and us viking faithfuls will be getting headache after headache every season.

Favre could if he asked for it and the Jets allow. There have been players that got released by their team at their request when they retired. Maybe Farve could just do that, and hopefully Jets will allow him to. But I don't think the Vikings should depend on Farve for next season which I don't think they are. They're probably happy with Rosenfels and Jackson which is going to be no different than Ferrotte and Jackson if not worst. At least Ferrotte was a starting QB caliber. Rosenfels is every other teams's bench warmer but yeah on the Vikings he's a pontential starter. I guess that just sums up our problem. Our QB lineup sucks so much that even Rosenfels is getting a shot to start.

Its unfortunate for us Viking fans that we have a championship caliber defense, a championship caliber running game, and a pretty good receiving corp, but we have to depend on incompetent idiots like Jackson and Rosenfel to lead us. Yeah QB who needs a good QB anyways right? I mean its only the MOST IMPORTANT POSITION IN FOOTBALL!!!! But yeah we don't need a good QB.

I agree with Mr. Powers on the fact that we've gotten "so-so" QBs in the past. But I disagree that Sage is going to really be the starter. I think Sage was brought in because he needed a back-up that hasn't already proven to be better than Jackson. Granted I'm not a super Gus fan, but couldn't you imagine the questions that would arise after Jackson loses a game or two?
I really think that we could bring in Peyton Manning and we'd still have Jackson as the starter. It just seems to be a pattern with Childress.
your thoughts
Yeah thats Childress ego right there. He's not willing to admit his failures so he's going to keep trying forever to see if Jackson will be good next year, next year, next year,.... Unfortunately for him, no one told him that his job and more importantly life might not last that long to see Jackson come into his own 300 years from now.

the only failure is your article tom , your a complete bone-head, your one of those guy's that think football is only a qb postion , here let me spell it out football is 11 men playing together... it;s not about one player althought peterson no doubt is the best back in the game bar any of them,an as much as e1 wants to blame jackson as the problem ,i got new's 4 u doesn't have a thing to do with him, birk's old , he couldn't get to the line of scrimmage in the 3rd qter of the playoff game, an he hasn't been the same player since his surgery... let him go,get a right tackle,a receiver on the right side, an a center that can block that we'll help, don't believe me go look at the tape's, blocking 4 run's he's fine, but if you start passing , well watch the tape , he slow's way down birk, that's the real problem, if you going to write about sport's like football try watching the game's.brady was not but 6 round pick an now he's the class of the league ,get real it's more than about one qb u put people together thats the key.
ARE YOU ROSENFELS BY ANY CHANCE?? Maybe you're bored and decided to come online or something..i don't know..LOL. SO your blaming BIRK for the lost to the Eagles?? LOL.. Man I was at the game.. Trust me. it's not Birk's Fault they lost, although Birk was responsible for that mishandle. What do you mean he didn't get to the line of scrimmage you idiot. He's lined up at the line of scrimmage.. Do you even know what position he plays?? So was it Birk's fault that Tavaris decided oh i'm going to throw one to Asante Samuel and then get body slamed at the 5 yard line and take almost take myself out of the game (which we might have won the game had that happened and ferrotte played i might add). NOpe Tavaris is the reason we lost. PERIOD.

I like steve hutchinson you know the left guard who the vikings signed away for a fortune from the seahawks a few seasons ago. BUT during that same season, a QB by the name of Drew Brees, maybe you've heard of him, was a free agent. Wish Vikes would have made a better effort to sign him instead of concentrating all their efforts on the Hutchinson Posion Pill. Just imagine the team we have right now with Drew Brees at QB...and I know this is just wishful thinking but just imagine the posibilities. For people who think QB isn't a important position, just look at the Saints before Brees and since Brees arrived.

How does that defy the laws of physics?
Physics follows equations.
Quarterbacks do not; they can improve and make a name for themselves.
Terrible analogy. Terrible article.

Sage was horrible last year. previous year he did much better. hence the reason houston's price dropped from a #2 to a #4. Sage had 6 td's & 10 int's & 4 fumbles (sacked 9 times). My guess is you've seen very little houston football.

Retired players do not count against the cap. Favre will count against jet's cap potentially if they do, as he has a contract. Cut nose, spite face...
