A kid growing up watching the vikes on tv with Tark, Page, Kramer etc... grows up to play for the team he idolized. Comes to the end of his career and chooses to leave his hometown fans who are on the brink of a championship and have cheered for him for 11 years. I don't know, sounds like an a hole to me. Thanks for the good years Birk. I still can't believe you would do that. Not enough money in the bank? I hope you blow your knee out.

Matt Birk is a jakass. He plays for the news cameras as a great guy but is a real jakass in person. Unless of course you are a hottie babe he thinks he can score on. Then he is all smoochie smoochie. Sorry Mattywannabe, no kissy for you!

Matt Birk is completely over rated. I can guarantee that the offensive line will not miss him at all. The local media's love fest of Birk is pathetic. All I hear is how much he does for the community! Really I would like to know what he does for the community that is so great. Visits with a bunch of school kids every now and then? Who cares! I don't know Matt Birk personally, I know know quite a few people who went to high school with his wife and I've never heard a good thing said about her. Matt sure picked a winner with that one.
Gotta wonder

How does he know he won't be a one year wonder in Baltimore? Does he think he's above being released? Maybe this attitude is part of the reason the Vikes didn't really try that hard to get him to stay. He was a great center at one time, but he seems to have a hard time admitting his skills have greatly diminished. We won't miss the frequent off sides penalties, or the holding penalties, that became an every game ordeal last year. The VIKES also needed a fresh start!

What did you expect him to say? Obviously he is kissin their cans, due to that big pay day. Birk has lost a step, so it is time we found some younger talent. I hope he does well and keep up the tradition of winning the superbowl after leaving the vikings. Sum biatchs!!!

By all accounts Birk was a good team player and family man. He is at the end of a great career and the team wanted to go in a different direction. I don't know the details of the offer from the Vikings but I suspect it was well below his true market value. Childress has his favourites (any player that kisses his behind and shuts up)and he didn't get along with Birk because he dared to think for himself. I suspect Birk was willing to return to the Vikings if the offer was for close to market value but Childress wanted him gone so Birk did the best thing for his family. Probably a win win for both of them.

A perfect fit? I guess Birk won't mind riding the pine (by mid-season) but hey for 6 mil that ain't a bad gig. The Steelers will be happy to have those 2 wins in the bag.

FYI, I visit the Baltimore area once a year or so to see some friends. The downtown area, especially the waterfront, has been revitalized. Much better than when I first saw it in 1729.
Yeah, I was just kidding about Baltimore - I really like The South Street Squidport.

WTH is Matt thinking?
He says he's looking for new challenges for him and his family.
Well it's a good thing he's a big SOB, because Baltimore is the 4th most dangerous city in America. What the hell was he thinking moving his family there??

It's all about the Bengimins...

Melvin Fowler is an unrestricted FA that left the Vikes 3 seasons ago, he is familiar with Winter Park and is a much cheaper option than overrated Matty B. Good riddance Birk I will never forgive you for piping up in the media over Randy Moss walking off the field early against the Redskins.

You know, I was at that game in D.C. when Moss walked off the field. Frankly, I can't blame him for having done it. The entire team was walking around not even paying attention to the game! They thought they had it won before they even took the field.

However, Moss should have never walked off the field on his teammates and Birk was right to sound out about it.

"Jeff Christy who was considered an outstanding center in his time." says falstaff1962.

By who? i thought jeff crispy was extremely overrated. Also, he had an IQ that was in daunte culpepper territory.

the vikings will miss Matt Birk.

Its perfit for the Vikings too. They don't have to overpay an overrated player.
Enough wth the Birk stuff. He wasn't that good to brgin with and his last 3 yrs weren't good. PLus he played a part in getting rid of Randy Moss a huge mistake.
