Huh, Matt didn't mention he went to Harvard in this interview.

So, does this mean that Matt Birk (an eleven year veteran of the Minnesota Vikings) is a traitor because he opted to sign with the Baltimore Ravens?

For a veteran, he seems to have had his share of penalties in key situations and mess up quite a few snaps over the years. Many were drive stoppers. Sorry, Birk fans, but he is not missed.

I enjoyed this interview. Birk went to Harvard, right? He reads like he's pretty clear-headed.

I always admired Matt Birk.

Smart Harvard guy, MN native, hard worker, all around great football player for the Vikes.

But get real... He needed a new challenge?

Possible translations:

"I want a championship and don't think I have a chance with Jackson at QB or Childress at head coach..."

I remember some rumor reported that he was at odds with Childress. Who knows the real story. I just don't buy the line he's giving now, but I do respect that he's being classy about it all, not naming names and rocking the boat.

My guess is, had he waited long enough to see the addition of Favre, he might have wanted to stay. And that makes me think he probably DOES regret it now.

Hopefully, he regrets it even more after Sunday, when the Vikings beat the Ravens, and the Williams wall are stamping footprints all over Birks chest on the way to Joe Flacco.

Childress certainly didn't go to Harvard. Les Steckle could win with this team.

We wouldn't have struggled with San Fran if we still had Matt Birk. Normally, we bewildered teams that normally counted on their defensive line to set the tempo (Giants, Chargers,etc...) and our running game would be more consistent as well.

One question: Why didn't you offer him his old job back?

MN fans are not dump like cheese head people, of course he's not a traitor. Matt was a great player and MN will remember him as that.

Come on, "I'm not the brightest bulb", way to play down the Harvard grad angle.
I would be a whole lot more terse with this idiot. This was one of the worst interview I have ever read. The questions were so run of the mill, it was pathetic.

HAHA love how foolish Birk made the lap dog Sanny look.

He simply said what everyone else was thinking. Go back to journalism school and learn how to interview lap dog!

Birk is cool. Met him once one-on-one. Nobody around. Like talking to your next-door-neighbor. Wish he would've stayed, but that's the way it goes.

If the offers he got were similar, why did he not stay in MN.? Does he like that stupid Raven's helmet? Maybe he is not the brightest bulb.

I like Birk. Very Good center, still is and class guy. He just is not going to say things like, "I hated Chilli" or "I did not liek the offensive changes" or "I think TJ is a good High school QB" or "I only had 1 more year left before Sully pushed me out and I'd be on the bench so I wanted to go where I would start for a few more years. and be looked up to by the staff & players." Sunday he will get a big cheer if they introduce their offense a man at a time. Unlike GB that will porbably book BF. But then again he is not the QB and is not playing for Chicago or GB.

I hope you guys won't boo your former player.
My team (Ravens) are lucky to have Birk. Hey, our team had a great kicker (Matt Stover) and we let him go. Now today he signed with the Colts. I think that will come back to haunt us.
Now, look out because the Ravens just may break your winning streak!
