Birk's the problem, not the solution.

If consistency means so much to Childress like he says, Birk needs to be resigned NOW. Bringing in a new center would be horrible for Peterson and the Oline.

VIKINGS GET BIRK SIGNED TODAY!
He's a great player and a good person, plus a hometown Minnesota guy which Vikings fans appreciate.
Especially with what looks to me like another problem year at QB, Birk makes the QB alot better. Sage Rosenfels or whatever his name is will not be the solution at QB, he's a mediocre career backup, so big deal bring him to compete with Tavaris for starting job, either way we will be starting a subpar QB, either of them should be backing up a good QB not starting.
I wish the vikings would have made a strong play for Matt Cassel, that would have given us a longer term solution at QB that we could have built from.
We have a narrrow window to win with some of the good pieces we have in place and not fixing the glaring hole at QB means we won't do it this year or next.
I feel bad for Pat Williams, Birk and some of the other vetrans that see how close the Vikings are to being really good, but QB is the most critical position we need to address, and possibly getting rid of Birk at center is going to make the glaring problem at QB even more obvious.

GRRRRRR - Sign Birk Now - and get us a decent QB!

birks best years are behind him. he is an outstanding person but not the same player he was. Do not sign him unless the price is right. Once he signs a new contract, watch for injuries to become a problem with him.

Truly one of the classiest men in the NFL. The things this man has done for charities is remarkable and deserves great admiration. Along with his class, he has remained one of the most productive centers in the NFL as well. The Vikings would be foolish not to resign this guy.

It's nice to hear a Viking say that they think the team is doing a good job getting good people in here. Make Kurt Warner an offer he can't refuse, and the Vikings are instant Super Bowl favorites. Especially if they can also sign Marvin Harrison.

we all have noticed matty slipping the last couple of years but i still believe him to be in the top half of the centers in the league. better than anyone that we would get to step in till we can groom someone else. he is a MN boy who has always shown respect and integrity to the game, and he wants to stay in MN. not saying he is the pro bowler he was six years ago but i can't believe we wouldn't want him around for another year of two.

Warner was great in AZ because of the rcvr's. What did he do in NY? Nothing! He would do nothing in Minnie also with the rcvr's they have. Now, IF they go after Harrison then it is a little intriguing.

Matt Birk is a class act. He has proven this in the stand he has taken for the former NFL players. He did make the correct decision by missing the season in order to have surgery. Childress has a problem with Birk because he knows Birk has the character to challenge his over inflated ego. Matt Birk is still a productive player and should be resigned as much because of his leadership as his production.

Birk is footballs version of Matt Schilling, a big mouth hippocrit! How has the playoffs been Birk without good wide recievers? If your resigned, just shut up and hike the ball to the QB and Block. That's what centers do! Thanks to your BIG MOUTH and attacks on Randy Moss, we now have Childress and his clown offense with TJ, oh and no recievers!

For all the fans that want to point out Birks character, I can only imagine the excuses they would make if Micheal Phelps was a Minnesota native and not a 23 year old Black football player. Character? The whole slippery slope Minnesota went down started with Birk's big mouth after a crushing defeat by the Giants, attacking one of the greatest wide recievers and most entertaining atheletes in the NFL. Did you see AZ's Fitzgerald? Remind you of what a great Wideout looks like, remember when Randy and Cris Carter roamed the sidelines in Purple? Bottom line if BIRK had an ounce of CHARACTER he would have kept his big F' mouth shut and been a GOOD teamate after a 41-0 loss. Kept up team morale and protected his own. The opposite happened and the Vikings have maybe another chance if he finally has learned that WR win championships and centers HIKE THE BALL and BLOCK with their mouth shut!

To VikingW: Clueless. Moss was a great talent but an even greater cancer to the Vikings. We put up with enough. When he quit on his teammates, it was time to go. Birk needs to stay. Moss is gone. Get over it.
