Why did you survive? I don't have the answer, but I believe you would be able to tell the "safety story" now and the importantance of the safety equipment your boat is supposed to have on it.
There is a reason, for sure.

After boating accident, Schuyler left to ask, 'Why did I live?'
Luckily for Nick Schuyler, he got seasick. It ended up saving his life. The former University of South Florida football player was the lone survivor from a February fishing trip that claimed the lives of his best friend and former teammate, Will Bleakley, and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith.
