Dungy avoids jumping to a conclusion

Full story: The Indianapolis Star

Amid bowed heads and soft voices of disappointment in the Indianapolis locker room Sunday, the Colts players faced more than just an offseason contemplating their upset loss to San Diego in the playoffs.

I am well aware of of Tony Dungy's commitment to his family, his skill and success as a head coach, but one has to wonder what type of relationship he truly has with Payton Manning. For years the Colts spent it's money on offence, and when people on the outside looking in such as national televised games and see a Coach send in a punt team on 4th down, and a quaterback sends them back you have to wonder who 's in charge.

I hope Dungy leaves. I don't want another year of "am I going or am I staying"! Also, I thought the timing of his son transfering schools was lousy and (maybe your kids and you could have stayed a few extra months after the season to avoid the distraction? The Colt's need and deserve a coach that lives and breaths football (Cowher are you listening?) I also disagreed with Dungy resting the starters before a 2 week bye in the playoffs. Result of this: TWO first round loses at home! I like Dungy personally, but I don't think he has his heart in coaching 100% and that is what the Colts need and deserve

Perhaps the relationship is one of mutual respect and leadership? You don't get it, do you?

Dungy is getting a reputation like Bob Knight. Do well in the regular season but then suck in the playoffs. One SuperBowl victory is enough? This year he rested his regulars for two weeks, incuding the bye, and that made them rusty. Do we really want him to continue?

Dungy should quit while he's behind. Make room for someone who is committed to the franchise not this well, let;s take it year to year, I don't know if I want fries with this job, gee, don;t make me make a decision. Wish I had that kind of high paying job

Thank god the Colts lost. Now the media in this town can stop being cheerleaders to this team that screws the public. We have to pay for their stadium, the private jet for the coach, who knows what else while the Colt organization gets rich.

The media is suppose to be objective. Their objective is to generate money for the Colts at our expense

I should probably know better than to come to Talkback for positive commentary. Tony Dungy is unique. This community will miss him when he's gone, just like Tampa missed him when he left.

Suck in the playoffs? I guess you must've missed those three banners hanging in Assembly Hall. Comparing Dungy to Knight is like comparing Norv Turner to Coach K.

Speak for yourself. Tampa doesn't miss him! Tampa Bay won the Superbowl after they ran him out of town. Tony's style is too soft for play-off football.

Would that be perhaps because you are "PatsFanBob"?

Bellycheck is very hard (except around the middle). He's so hard he cheats. I'd rather have Dungy, thank you.

Someday, when you stand before God and you find out that it really doesn't matter in the end if we won games or lost them, but HOW we lived our life here. Tony gets it. I am afraid most of you who post these negative insensitive remarks, don't have a clue. We can throw sticks and harsh words, but in the end, Tony Dungy knows it is not the game of football that is his God and his win-loss record isn't what will get him into heaven! Your post from FL was unbelievable! I happen to know tons of people that were sick that Tampa got rid of Coach Dungy. He is a very highly respected man of integrity and he lives a life that is worthy of God's calling and all you can do is put him down because of a game called football. Every Colts player that was interviewed after our loss talked about their love, respect, and their desire to want to play for a man like Tony Dungy, it was never about "we win a lot of games, we have been to the championships every year, we have an incredible quarterback, we have the defensive player of the year.'' Instead it was about their praise for a coach who lives his life the way God calls us to live it. This is why I am a proud COlts fan. Thank you Coach Dungy and All the Colts team for the example you are!

you would rather have dungy, who's playoff record is 7 wins and 8 losses compared to belichicks 14wins and 3 losses. how does that math work? look all we have heard about dungy for years now is what a wonderful guy he is, what a wonderful christian he is, what a wonderful father he is.he had virtually the same team in tampa that gruden had, he couldn't deliver, gruden did.and i'm here to tell you that if it were not for peyton he wouldn't have won one there either.i don't care how many 12 win seasons you have, how many championships do you have? dungy has one.belichick has 2 as an assistant coach, and 3 as a head coach.which one is going to the hall of fame? not dungy.don't think with your heart garp, use your head.belichick is by far the superior coach.is he a bit jaded, yes. did he have a messy affiar with some guys wife in new jersy, yes, was spygate his fault, yes, is he rude and arrogant, yes, does he win super bowls, yes, and to fans, and management, and owners that's what's counts.if he left the pats every team in the league would try to jump on him.end of story.

WOW! cityrooster, you are EXACTLY who I am talking about. You really don't get it. So all those unadmirable traits about Bellichick are of, cheating, arrogance,etc... as long as he wins football games. Boy, I would love to hear you talk to your child. "It's ok honey, cheat, be a poor sport, be a poor example, show no class, do drugs, WHATEVER IT TAKES- JUST WIN!! Enough said.

Exactly.

You will not find a bigger welfare cheat or more disgusting Liberal than a Colts fan.

How dare Dungy call himself a Christian while working for a team that steals from his neighbors to pay his salary.

I just finally read the last half of your post. You are the most incredible piece of work I have ever seen. First of all, Tony Dungy has NEVER said his son's suicide is OFF LIMITS. Quit the contrary. He speaks about it frequently. And the fact that you would say that a child would come to a parent. Are you really kidding? You really don't have a clue what you are talking about. A person that could contemplate taking their life is seriously ill and not thinking rationally. For you to put blame, of any kind, on anyone, is unbelievable. when a parent loses a child it the most devastating thing that could ever happen and for a person to come along and try to place guilt is sinful. And yes I meant sinful. Guilt is not from God, just as your horrible remarks. I truly hope you never make any mistakes as a parent, but after all, you are perfect. I never said Tony Dungy was a messiah, those are words you put in my mouth. I respect him as a man of God who lives his life trying to serve God and to do his will. I wonder how much you understand that.

get over yourself. I don't know what I'm talking about, huh.I was a single parent raising a boy in the inner city, and that boy came to me with everything. All we had were each other. There were times we were lucky we ate,but we trusted in each other, and we believed in ourselves. My son went on to college, recieved his B.A. and has since married and given me a beautiful gradchild, who I hope develops the same relationship he had with his son that I had with mine. And as far as your question, yes, a child that trusts his parent, goes to him for help. So, get off your soapbox because you're not even close to the truth.

I'm as mad as anyone about yesterday but bear in mind: Dungy has never failed to make the playoffs while coaching here.. not once. How would you like to be Arizona or Cleveland, Oakland?? Cellar dwellers every year despite getting good draft picks. Every year Indy is right in the thick of it, and we used to be perennial crap. I happen to think Dungy has something to do with us being contenders. Coming off the byes seems to be the main problem here, not the coach.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Leo

If you ask someone to give you a hand today, don't be surprised if they make a mess of it. That's probably because their mind isn't on the job, but it might also be because your instructions aren't as clear as usual. So before you get angry, check that what you said made sense. Relations with someone older or more influential than you could also be blighted by confusion or doubt now.
