The Chiefs have been searching for an offensive rhythm since the start of the season, and the firing of Chan Gailey. Week 1 of the season, against a tough Baltimore defense,(currently ranked 8th in the NFL in total defense) the Chiefs scored 24 points. Brodie Croyle completed 66% of his passes, threw 2 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, and finished with a QB rating of 116. We lost that game, but got a very good performance from our QB. Since week 1, we’ve watched Matt Cassel. With each week, this team was supposed to learn more of Haley’s offense, and become more efficient. We have not seen this happen. We have not scored more points in any game this season than we did in week 1. You can argue for, or against, Matt Cassel, but his season completion percentage is 54% and his QB rating is 68. Both of these numbers are much lower than Croyle’s numbers in week 1, not to mention that Cassel has thrown just as many interceptions as he has touchdowns. Now, I’m sure there are some of you that might argue that Croyle has not played well over his career in Kansas City, and that in week 1 he just had “one good game.” For the sake of that argument, if you take Croyle’s carrer QB rating and completion percentage, they are both BETTER than Cassel’s numbers this season! Maybe Cassel’s success last year really was a result of the Patriot’s system and the receivers he had around him. Is he really as bad as the 6 interceptions and 0 touchdowns he’s thrown the past two weeks? Would we have a better chance of winning with Croyle? I don’t know, but Brodie outplayed Matt the only start he had this season…. Why not start him again?
