With Plaxico gone, the Giants need a deep threat

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. After taking four months in the wake of his shooting to decide that troubled receiver Plaxico Burress didn't fit into their plans, general manager Jerry Reese and the New York Giants have roughly three weeks to decide whether they can find a deep threat in the NFL draft.

They're not going to find an answer in the draft. That's not to say they shouldn't draft a WR in the first round, to include packaging some of those 10 picks to move way up from 29 to take Crabtree or Maclin, or maybe Bey or Nicks will fall to them at 29. In any case, I don't see any rookie WR making up for the loss of Burress. The Giants have a better chance of Manningham or even Moss being more effective this coming season than any of the rookie WRs. They've got to pick up Edwards or even Holt to partially make up for what Burress gave them.
