Loss to Giants eliminates Vikings from playoff contention

Full story: TwinCities.com

RECAP: Life without Brett Favre is even worse than expected. Picking up a first down was a struggle for the Vikings , who were outdistanced 310-112 in total offensive yards through the first three quarters and lost 21-3 to the New York Giants tonight in Detroit.

J.Allen is playing C+.
The Williams Wall is old.
There are no back-ups.

Benny Sapp is in Miami.
Cedric Griffin is on IR.
Sharper got away and got a ring.

Bad moves were made by Klink for years, it will take time to fix.

We've got some big problems moving forward.

1) The vikes still don't have a stadium yet, and the lease expires next year, i n 2011

2) I don't see a QB on this roster. T Jack was awful, yet, Coach Fraz didn't seem eager to start the rookie, Joe Webb, which tells me something.

3) This defense is a kind of a hodge podge with free agents like Chad Greenway and Ben Leber looking for a big pay day, while the corner back and safety spots are up for grabs. Then there's Kevin Williams and Pat Williams who has aged literally over night.

4) The offensive line is a mess, and the only two wide receivers worth bringing back are Percy Harvin and Syndey Rice.

So I have never liked Griffin. Before anyone argues that point look at this. Why do you think Griffin was the leading in tackles when he was playing last year and the year before? Because the guys he was covering, ALWAYS got the ball. I want someone who keeps the WR from getting the ball and Griffin cannot do that, he sux! you cannot argue the fact that he gets burned constantly, because he gets the tackles, he is not tackling the other CBs guys! Winfield is old but still the best we have, I would keep him if only for mentoring. Scrap the OL with possible exception of Hutch. DL hmmm hard one, they are all sucking right now, but not sure if it is scheme or them. WRs, yep keep Harvin and Rice, the rest can move on. RBs are good, AP, Booker and TG in that order!

Frazier is taking inventory. TJerk and Berrian are the first of many stale and unsalable items that have to go.

Never has it been more true to be careful what you wish for. After the Buffalo game last week I'd hope to see more of T-Jack, see what he could do. Well I got my wish and frankly was a little disappointed.
If I'm Leslie Fraizer today I'm meeting with Ziggy Wilf and lay my cards on the table. "Ziggy we need to figure out our QB strategy for the future. Now we have two options we can go the agent/trade route or we can go the draft route. The problem Ziggy is as long as I'm "interim" head coach I'm going to do everything in my power to win which isn't the best thing to do if we are going draft route."
I think you have to do both if you plan on contending again..........draft a QB in the first and go out and grab a veteran QB.

I also think the Vikes should give serious consideration to re-signing TJ as a back-up..........he would come cheap and he and Webb could battle it out in training camp for position on the depth chart. That would bring the Vikes up to snuff numbers wise atthat position. Plus montior the progress of Archer.........JMO.

I KNOW I KNOW..........believe me I can't believe I find myself typing that as well.

I just think at this juncture with the QB situation so desperatley thin that dropping this guy and leaving the Vikes with only a sixth round pick, WR at that, as the only QB on the roster is EXTREMELY risky!!!!!!!

If TJ would be willing to take a 1 year deal at Big Lots prices then at least the Vikes wouldn't have to go scurrying around the league looking for yet another QB..........THEIR hands are gonna be full enough trying to get a FA starter(POSSIBLY) and draft a guy in the first round, a lot to do..........

TJoke is not a football player. Never has been, never will be.

Frazier is already looking around for live bodies to play QB.

I know what you are saying EVF but I think getting rid of Chilly's ego player that caused so much headache would help us start the healing process from this season. Remember Chilly's ego kept TJoke and sent a REAL viable backup Sage to the team who just beat our asses the other night. Sage played great in Pre-season and dumb ass still traded him away, just for ego sake. But that does not help us now, I would take just about any QB out there over TJ, we know what we have with TJ and none of it is good. I really like Webb and it would be a crime not to give him a shot to show us if he is a viable QB.

I read where Frazier is looking at 8 FA QB's this week..........he stated that there is a possibility one of them may be signed and could end up starting on Monday.....wow!

How come some teams can see that the talent of a player is waning and trade them and the vikings is a team that picks them up...Berrian and Moss come to mind.

You know what they have to do. They have to gut the team. Start over from scratch. Might as well start Webb to see what they have. Keep AP, Harvin, Rice and 1 or 2 o-lineman. Defense??? Keep Allen, Henderson maybe Greenway. They cant afford Edwards. Everybody else scrap heap them. It will take a couple of years.

A rookie QB can sit and learn for a year or two while those other holes are addressed.
Besides, when choosing which round to draft different positions in, would you rather have a 1st round safety and a 4th round QB, or the reverse?
First things first..........

1) Free Agency: Lets see who jumps ship from the Vikings and who jumps ship from other teams and at what position they play. Last year I was a strong proponent of getting a QB, then Chester Taylor went to the Bears. That caused me to rethink my position.

2) Draft: Lets see where our draft position is and who might be available during our pick. With all the holes we have, might be a year of Best Player Available (BPA).

3) I'm not sure that we've even got our coach for next year yet? We'll have to wait and see what happens in that respect. After Childress was let go, I hope Wilf sat back and took a long look at where we are and who we've got. I wish I were the "fly on the wall" that knew what Wilf is thinking.

Stay in touch and we'll see how all this plays out.
