Raiders should sign T.J. Houshmandzadeh

Sep 5, 2010 Full story: Raiders Post 14

I think it will depend on the health of Schilens. Since they did not put Chaz on the PUP list, he may be returning sooner rather than later. With Schilens available, TJ will not see the field (similar skills) and everyone's time is wasted. If Schilens is out closter to 4-6 weeks off, they should place Schilens on the PUP list and sign TJ for the first six weeks of the season. Chaz has a history with injuries and TJ could be the long term answer (then put Chaz on IR). It would not be smart to cut the other WRs on the roster to make room for both Chaz and TJ. The other WRs play a role on specials teams that neither TJ or Chaz would play.

7 WRs is way too many...6 is ok if that is what you need for special teams...normally you only keep 5.

At this point, I don't believe 7 WRs is too many considering Schilens is hurt. Also, four of the guys are returners and no one clearly established themselves in the preseason. I would expect at least two of these four WR/Returners inactive on a weekly basis. This will provide needed depth in the Return Game in case of injury (unlike last year).

We've got Higgins, N Miller, Ford, and Figures as WR/KRs. Then we have Rock Cartwright who is a RB/KR. I think we can let one of the WR/KRs go to get depth elsewhere. I mean we have no reserve DEs because several of our LBs double as DEs plus 3 of our front 4 can play both DT and DE. If you're counting on guys to be able to play multiple positions like that and one gets injured, you've lost not 1, but 2 positions. You can only dress 45 of your 53 and that's not enough to go 2 deep at every position plus have your K and P, so you have to have diversatility, but you can't be counting on it everywhere while you're overstacked in 1 area.

yes, considering the amount of injuries we have i say yes. but huz may have the good hands and two steps behind on speed. plus, we "they" would have to fork out 7mil for him from start. what if we end up with another javon walker? i think he may be one of the better receivers out there available but too costly and old. we may just do better with a free young but talented football player that could make the team. they would have to really see whats out there in all that trash until they find something valuable.

I am not the Raiders are overstacked at one position considering Schilens is hurt. I believe the return game is still a work in progress and there is no guarantee that Cartwright will be around once Bush is healthy or they add a second FB.

I don't think the injury to Schilens is very serious otherwise I think Todd Watkins would still be around. I think Figures, Ford, and N Miller play the same side as Higgins and DHB...I say that because nobody else is listed behind Schilens and Murphy on their side of the depth chart. You may be right that the return job is unsettled business and that is why all of the guys that were competing for the job are still around...I got a feeling that we are still trying to trade Higgins. The fact that N Miller made the team last year prior to his season ending injury makes it tough because he's not eligible for the practice squad now.
