I've learned that our worst picks have been our first rounders of the last 3 years. All three have been major busts. Jamarcus Russell has been a golden child too long and eventually was benched in favor of journeyman Bruce Gradkowski who was a late rounder by the Bucs in 2006. I thought Darren McFadden should've never been drafted to begin with because Justin Fargas had shown major signs of life and was re-signed to a major deal plus we stole Michael Bush the previous year and so far Bush has been the most productive this year. McFadden was supposed to be a can't miss pick and he's been injured a lot and when healthy he hasn't lived up to his hype. Then there's Butterfingers Heyward-Bey...Good size, great speed, nose for the playbook, but his biggest reputation was dropping passes and that is what he's done most of the season. The receiving game improved once he was out of there with his foot injury & couldn't drop passes. I thought he was a wasted pick at first, but then saw Cable's interview after he was selected and changed my mind, but in the end, I think Cable was wrong about him...Catching the football is the most important skill a WR needs to posess in the NFL. I think Jeremy Maclin was the most NFL ready WR but If I could redo this first round pick I would take OL Michael Oher; however, there's no guarantee that Louis Murphy would've been on board for us in round 4 and I think he was a big steal for us. This offseason I say we need the following:
Cut Jamarcus Russell, Javon Walker, and Butterfingers Heyward-Bey
Trade Darren McFadden
Re-sign Kirk Morrison, Tom Howard, Richard Seymour, Bruce Gradkowski, Charlie Frye, and Robert Gallery
Needs: C, RG, RT, CB depth, LB depth, QB of the future
Draft: Colt McCoy or Sam Bradford if available; if not, best available OL.

Who knows what is Russell's future, but McFadden and DHB are worth keeping. I agree with the needs listed, but Oline is clearly the highest priority. The Oline has not been addressed in the draft and it shows. Drafting a couple of young guys in rounds 1-3 would instantly help with the injuries the Raiders sustained this year (L. Walker at Guard???). Based on the experience with Russell, it is hard to believe that the Raiders will use their 1st Round pick on McCoy or Bradford (that is what it will take based on the projections). I would prefer the Raiders resigning the current three QBs to compete for the starting position. Russell is the 4th QB and whatever the Raiders decide to do (cut, renegotiate, pay him his current salaray) is okay with me as long as he earns the starting job and not given the job due to his salary.

...I suppose if the Raiders keep Russell at his currently salary and this prevents the Raiders from signing or resigning one of the current players that actually contributes (like Seabass)...that would be unaccepetable.

I do like what I've seen from Louis Murphy, Matt Shaughnessy, Desmond Bryant, and Mike Mitchell as far as first year players...Nick Miller looked good in preseason but his injury was unfortunate and we didn't get to see him in regular season. Tyvonn Branch, Trevor Scott, and Chaz Schilens made good showings as second year players. Zach Miller, Michael Bush, Johnnie Lee Higgins, Jay Richardson, and Mario Henderson were good 3rd year players as well. Good talent from our last 3 drafts, just not in round 1.
