Losing/cutting Kevin Mawae, the LEADER of the ENTIRE offense, not just the oline, is such a mistake! Kevin is STILL capable of being the PRO BOWL CENTER that is HOF material and to have him there to guide and instruct the young line is sooooooo worth the pittance cap hit his salary causes. I'm disgusted with the new regime!

Why was Mawae cut? I have two differing opinions on the matter:

1- Mawae is a good man and an excellent leader. It is because of Mawae that Martin has had such productive years. Mawae is also three years older than Coack Mangini. By cutting Mawae, Coach Mangini is automatically assured that there is no one on the team to undermine his authority. I can imagine Coach Mangini saying something and having the players look to Mawae instead. It is a sad but necessary manuever, if that's the motivation behind it.

2- Owner Woody Johnson is not an idiot, and he realizes that it will be a few years before the Jets are championship contenders. Under this motivation, it only makes sense to start a younger center. By the time the Jets are ready to get their rings sized, Kevin Mawae will be 37/38 years old. That IS too old to be the center he is now, and they'd have to cut him by then to have someone else snapping. Under these circumstances, it only makes sense to start that person now.

And, yes, it still stinks. Coach Mangini has to be careful to not piss the fans off too much.

I agree. Any loss or damage to the JETS is OK by me. bring him down to Miami. Zach Thomas always says Mawae is the best lineman he has ever played against.

Sam - Did you know that he is ALSO the Player Rep? I was thinking that too - all along, that Mangini looked at him more of like an obstacle, a hinderance.

Mawae think Jason Taylor is a punk and I just can't see them being teammates.

If you noticed, there was always bad blood between these players. Mawae is an "in the trenches" player and Taylor is an aging pretty boy. Jason "I had to marry a white girl" Taylor has long disrespected Fireman Ed - who happens to be one of New York City's precious firemen. What do you do, Jason? Chase after a ball on a field?
