What to Look for When the Oakland Raiders Face the San Francisco 49ers

The Oakland Raiders didn't take care of business when they faced the San Francisco 49ers in the regular season last year.

WOW I didn't know that Stefan Wizniewski was getting the start at center this week. I sure hope he impresses. Stephon Hayer has really impressed at LG and Veldheer seems to have the lock at LT. With all the bad I hear about Barnes, I hope Joe Barksdale wins the RT spot. Now for RG, Cooper Carlisle is decent but is getting up there. However, Bruce Campbell has been impressive enough since starting practice to a chance at starting.

My big question is "Have the Raiders looked at Stefan Wisniewski at RG?" That is where he played in college in addition to Center, so if Satelle is thought to be the better center and Hayer is playing solid at LG, so I can't help but wonder if lil Wiz has even been considered at RG since that is his more natural side. Plus Campbell was more naturally a left side player in college. I mean Hue Jackson did say that he wants the best group of 5 out there and he wanted to build a bully offensive line.
I think the best combinations are from LT to RT:
Veldheer, Hayer, Wiz, Campbell, Barksdale
Veldheer, Hayer, Satelle, Wiz, Barksdale

This may be crazy without Carlisle's veteran presence, but he's in his 12th year and most OL in the NFL only last about 13 and if the youth are ready then put them in. Barnes is in his 7th year which is average for veteran OL in the NFL and I think has regressed from his days in jacksonville. He has been a good backup and extra TE, but I don't think he's starter matterial.

like i was saying, they must see something special in lil weis. if you remember, jacko was saying he could be a starter already when they first picked him up. with this first game that went by and more training, lil weis must be showing more than was expected. if he does start? i wish him well. it's cool when a rookie becomes a starter. it just shows he could be ready. b campbell is ready and hungry to play. im not exactly sure how they will line them up but im starting to like that line up more. i was already thrilled with j campbells protection. barnes is starting material, he's just good enough to start thats all but not the greatest thats for sure.

Heyer's injury (Tricep) supposedly is minor....but isn't hat what they always say?

I figured Wis, Jr. would start at center saturday since Satele got injured----again just "minor".....minor enough that they took him to the hospital.
I hope Wis, Jr. does real well. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HIM PLAY WITH THE 1ST STRING TOMORROW!!! I would love to see him on the line this year....if he's good enough and only if he's good enough.

I heard that Satele played some guard too.

RT is the spot that BY FAR concerns me the most.
I'm fine with Satele at center and Carlisle at RG but Barnes won;t get my vote for RT until I see him prove it on the field.

I hear B. Campbell is doing well since back from injury--that's a great sign.

If Heyer is a better LG than Wis and Carlisle is a better RG, then I have no problem with
I would have no problem with all that veteran experience in the center of our line :)

TexasRaider, I heard the same thing about Wis......his experience at guard was on the right side--not left......and I heard he was having trouble at LG in camp. Sounds like he may be doing better now.

We're definitely putting together a hybrid O-line (like they did with OLB and DE's last year...or was that the year before?).....

2 centers that also play guard....oops almost forgot Veldheer--3 centers

Loper and Carlisle, our starting guards from last year, with Campbell and Heyer (tackles) and Wis (center) getting actual reps at the guard position......and Satele could probably step in at Guard if needed but I seriously doubt we need it.
The worst thing about our Guard positions is trying to narrow it down to just 2 guys to play them.

.....and then there's RT. Boy, I hope Barnes has improved a lot. Barksdale didn't look bad last week with the 2nd team.

I really hate that Gallery is not with us, but if Hayer is doing well at LG then great. Never was a fan of Carlisle. At the time Barnes joined us supposedly he was the best available, but he hasn't showed me a F'n thing...well except that he can be a short yardage TE. I do like Veldheer at LT. My preferred line would've been Veldheer, Gallery, Wiz, Loper, Barksdale; but since Gallery left us I'll have to say Veldheer, Hayer, Wiz, Loper, Barksdale.

I really don't know what to think of Bruce Campbell because I was still locked up during that draft, but my brother told me that he was projected to be taken by the Raiders in round 1 and a lot of Raider fans didn't want that. BUT he fell to round 4 and we grabbed him there. I do think it's funny the stories I heard that supposedly Tom Cable tied Al Davis up somewhere and that was why we had a legit draft that year.

Oakland lacks the ability to flush a QB out of the pocket.

Do you think that they'll have Pryor playin the QB spot?

I think it depends on how the 1st 5 games go when he is suspended. 5-0 then no-way...0-5 then probably

I didnt know his suspension was gonna carry over. I thought that was just a college thing.
