Maryland lost the game because they couldn't stop a 4th-string running back--end of story. They were completely outplayed from start to finish.

A number of questionable calls went both ways. Maryland was gifted 30 yards on its last scoring drive to begin the second half. Virginia took over the line of scrimmage in the second quarter.

This article gives no sense of what a great game it was between two teams that are essentially even. Virginia was without its leading rusher.

The game was lost by Ralph Friedgen, not the players. I thought he was supposed to an offensive genius.

Virginia moved the ball 90 yards in 15 plays over the final 7:26!

THAT was the problem, not the refs! We had VA with a CRUCIAL 3rd & 15 and NOT ONE linebaker blitzing -- you have to crush that pocket on 3rd & long. PERIOD!
MD's defensive coordinator should be FIRED!

How can you say MD was completely outplayed from the start and later say the game was essentially even?
Did everyone see the face mask on Oquendo on the play prior to MD having to punt on the 4th and one play? Would have bee first down.
Yeah, MD was ripped a little, but the bottom line is we should smash UVA and the refs wouldn't matter, if we are going to win the ACC.

Ralph, you just lost all my respect. You act like a student! Your team had as many injuries as UVA and you let a freshman beat you! Don't blame it on the officials. You should know better then that. VA drove 90 some yards to score, period. And by the way, the touchdown was legit. You sound even more like a student when you say I could see it from the sidelines and it was not touchdown, WRONG! Grow up Ralph, you are supposed to be a LEADER!

Ralph, you were standing on the 30 yard line when the ball crossed the goal line. Not sure how that can be "a pretty good view of it".

Undersized defensive line (where is the recruiting?)that was getting blown off the line on running plays all night, and providing no pass rush on passing plays; then when the back-up running back was running through holes the size of the Grand Canyon the only one making any tackles past the line of scrimmage was Erin Henderson; absolutely NO blitz packages by the D coaches when it was obvious all game long that Sewell was getting all day in the pocket; and Ralph's ultraconservative play calling and vanilla offense and terrible decision making were why Maryland lost the game! The replay video clearly showed the last TD was good, so I don't know what Ralph was whining about. He should have been cussing out his defensive coaches for allowing a 90 yard drive for UVA to win the game. Or cursing himself for not trying to sustain a drive and burn clock by going for it on that 4th and 1 play instead of punting when he had to see his defense get pushed around most of the game. No referee excuses Ralph. YOUR performance last night was pathetic! Time to retire.

You got beat, at home, on national t.v. You got outgained by a kid who wasn't even on the depth chart. So much for the "offensive genius", eh?
It's so pathetic that Marylands coachs choose not to credit the incredible play by Long (10 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 pass break ups and a safety) which could be used as an example to HIS players. No he chooses to whine about how the refs "robbed" them.

Don't gloat too much Ya Hoo fans. Weren't you all ready to run Al Groh out of town after last year? Now after barely beating a handful of cream puffs, I guess he's ready for a contract extension?

Unranked Maryland got beat at home on national TV by 1 point by the supposed 19th ranked team that needed a TD with 6 seconds left to beat a mediocre team. You really gonna puff your chests out over that? If so, then you are as pathetic as Ralph Friedgen's coaching.

Once again, Ralph Friedgen can't take responsibility for blowing the game. It was his conservative playcalling that cost the team, not the refs. All he does is run on 1st, run on 2nd , throw on 3rd. Over and over and over again. After the Wake game, he throws Steffy under the bus. After UVA, he blames the refs. BLAME YOURSELF, START COACHING AND STOP WHINING.

Any body who saw the spot on 4th down would nknow that this game was fixed. Where was the original video clip that was showed live. I can't believe ESPN trying to say that that was a first down. What a joke! It makes me sick to watch this garbage.

Fire the offensive coordinator...tomorrow. Don't blame injuries for this mess, UVA was without their top back and receiver. Don't blame the D either...its tought to be on the field the entire half when your offense can't get a first down. This offense has been terrible since Charlie Taffe left. Ralph, youre too fat to do one job, let alone two. Get some help buddy. I wonder why Lamaar Thomas is headed to OSU...Ralph wouldn't be able to find a way to get it into a game-breakers hands. Just ask DHB and DaRel Scott

Ya'll can whine about the penalties and disparage UVa all you want. There were plenty of home-team calls too, like a 15-yd non-existent facemask and supposed roughing the passer. The truth is there was plenty of sloppy calling against both teams that frustrated everyone. It was a sloppy win, but UVa dominated the last half of the game as the stats indicate. It remains to be seen if they can continue to be successful with a minimum of points scored.

Ever heard of someone called Chris Long?

It's a pattern folks at Maryland... Garry blames others for his 85% of players that do not graduate, and Ralph blames the officials when he loses a game that the stats clearly show was won by the right team in a close game. Debbie as the AD should keep Garry and just have his players graduate more often but Ralph needs to go as ever since Vanderlin left most MD recruit classes have not panned out under Ralph. I agree UVA might not be the team that should be ranked but they have won on the road this year and only the winning matters ugly or not. Maryland will become a better team when they get rid of Ralph and not just win the occasional big game but do it for a full season. Oh and Chris Long is amazing, at halftime Ralph told a ESPN reporter that they had a plan for him, well I guess that plan did not work. Also on the MD side Erin Henderson is a stud.

Yes the Terps were outgained and yes the TD was legit. But the pass interference and the 4th and 4 first down call were BAD. The interference call was bang-bang, there's no way you call that. On the 4th down call the side judge and the ref handling the sticks got wiped out, the side judge from the MD side marked the ball a yard short. Replay confirmed the ball carrier was a yard short. The problem seemed to be that no one knew where to spot the ball so "what the heck" First Down. Bottom line score more point's, you have to go for it on that last 4th down call to keep your defense off the field, you have to stretch the field and mix it up a little on offense and throw the ball to the tight end once in a while. Long is an incredible player, Terps had no answer for him.

Brian, hopefully after a day of recovery, you realize how ridiculous this statement is.

As for Ralph, I remember beating FSU at home in 2005, and Bobby didn't blame refs, he said "we couldn't stop that dadgummed 18" (meaning Marcus Hagans).

Ralph was embarrassed that a guy who had barely seen the ball after fumbling in the 2nd game of the year ran all over him. He was shocked at how even when running away from Chris Long, he was there making the tackle. He was flabbergasted. But to blame the refs and say you were robbed? Pathetic. Al Groh doesn't talk about injuries because he will never allow them to be an excuse.
