We had a crying need at DE for a long time and we finally got a great one. We wanted him more than anyone else. The Vikes have had a crying need at QB for a long time and the Bears forever. This time the Bears wanted him more. The Vikes were one deal away from getting it done but Brad Childress has his man and his challanger. Hopefully SAGE will do enough to make the QB position respectable and that will be enough. But it is only a hope.

The Vikes haven't drafted a good defensive end since Doleman. They don't grow on trees is right. Whomever the Vikes would've taken would not have helped as much as Jared Allen has and would not have filled a need as Jared Allen has. The only thing that would make this a bad trade is if Allen gets injured. He played through injury last year and seems diligent to "earn" his money even after getting the contract.

This was a no-brainer. Not worth talking about. Allen is a super player with an excellent attitude and a super motor and super productive.

Bad article. Trade has already paid off. Derrick Harvey or Jared Allen? What's the debate? Were still under the cap not like the Vikes mortgaged the whole bank roll.

I predict that Jared Allen will threaten and very possibly eclipse the current sack record in a season currently held by Michael Strahan.

All of these articles are about if the Vikings are a better team this year than last. This is not the measurement of an NFL team. The goal of an NFL team is to win the Super Bowl. If that is not your stated goal, then you will never do it. Until the Vikings management quits patting themselves on the back for baby steps on improvement, we as fans are doomed for a team that is happy to win the North and get in the playoffs.

Lets see...give up a first and two thirds for a known difference maker but has two DUIs (no room for mistake). Risky?... Now how risky would it be to take Harvin as our 1st rounder as another difference maker?

We keep hearing that Cutler was too expensive and the same for Boldin. Number one picks are too precious, where would we be without our two #1 picks in 2005, Williamson and James. Cutler and Boldin are totally worth it.

Sorry Jarhead Allen, you will never see the Super Bowl as a Viking with their lame QBs and dumb coach.

Did anybody happen to notice the improvement in the Vikings Defensive ranking from the year before Allen came on board to last year with Allen. I attribute much of that success to Allen and his ability to pressure the QB. He is worth every penny!! And the man played through some major injuries and still was a destructive force on D. I love his attitude and confidence as well, he is exactly what this team needs and the Vikings are lucky to have him.

Not even the Chef's faithful can spin this trade as a positive for them. This was a no brainer for the Vikes. Now If they can only learn form their success and trade away more picks that they would surely waste away on reaching for small school players who would have fallen 2-3 rounds later if it weren't for the genius Spielman!

He's worth every penny. How can you say that we need to look 8 or 9 years down the line to see if this was a good trade? JA had an instant impact and now the Vikes don't have to worry about that position for 4-5 years. This is a good situation to be in especially having to wait as long as they have for a playmaker.

Allen had a past but said he has changed for the better, Harvin was puffin' on the cheeba not too long before the combine when he knew that he was going to be drug tested. I don't know, you tell me whose dumber. I would probably say the guy smoking pot when he knows about the testing and his future isn't certain. Plus Jared Allen is a proven player and Harvin hasn't proven a lick in the NFL.

Wow Sean, are effin serious? Of course it was really worth the cost to get Jared Allen. Hell I think we stole him in some regards. I can't believe it only cost a 1st, 2 3rds, and a swap of 6ths. In my opinion KC got the shaft on that one. Come on, the dude's a beast. He plays hurt, got a constant motor, and he's a fierce competitor, all while being double teamed on most plays. He gives this defence a whole new dynamic, making everyone around him better. Plus I love his attitude. He's like an instigator in hockey. Other teams and their fans may not like him, but that's what makes his game better. Besides who would we have drafted instead? Derrick Harvey. Please. I'm sure he'll have a decent career, but not like the potential HOF career Jared Allen's going to have. And to think he was drafted as a longsnapper in the 4th round I believe. It just goes to show you that the draft is unpredictable. Some 1st rounders turn out to be busts.( Mike Williams, Troy Williamson anybody?)After only one year it's plain as day to see who got the better of the deal, even if the players KC selected with our picks pan out.

Nice dopey article, clearly he was worth it. We might have drafted another Erasmus James and traded both 3rd's to move up to the 2nd round to pick another TJoke. It was worth it, he's a known quantity unlike draft choices.
