Good draft by the Vikes this year. Like Old Vikes said, Tyrell Johnson could get some excellent help learning the game from Sharper. He could turn out to be a top 10 safety in near future. Booty was a good pick at QB but Brohm would have been much better. As for John Sullivan, he was (actually!) a top 5 center in the draft and is really smart which should make him the next Matt Birk. Guion was 20 year old developmental player who should turn out to be good if he can build up a little and figure out his footwork. He's only 20 so that leaves him many years to improve. And as for Jaymar, dont get your hopes up to high. He's 6 feet tall which is good but not great. He has speed but should get pushed around all day by corners.

Also, did any of you people out there happen to notice the "Jared Allen Affect." The Lions and Bears both need QB's badly but both got offensive linemen instead. I know they needed offensive linemen anyways but their main needs were QB. The Lions even reached on the offensive tackle they got in the 1st round which is hilarious.

At first I was mad we didn't take Brohm, but when we got Booty two round later.I was satified, because he is a winner. His team had a lot of talent, but was not great without him.

Booty was a DAMN GOOD pick! I really wasn't expecting it though, I must confess. I had mixed feelings about it, until I read a few articles and saw some film. Everyone makes their comparisons to the "great ones" as far as style & technique. A "great one" with a simular style was J. Montana. How good this kid actually turns-out to be will be interesting. I hope he doesn't wind-up getting "hurried along" too much. I personally don't agree with that. It would've been nice if they would've picked-up Garcia last season, and kept TJax with the clip board for awhile. I really AM happy that they picked-up Frerotte. He's got some football smarts to teach a couple youngsters.
PS - Don't misinterpret what I meant. I'm NOT saying Booty is the next J. Montana, okay?

Yeah, i'm feeling pretty good about the draft picks. I do wish we would of went with an offensive tackle, but going with Tyrell and planning for the future is still a good idea. I think as long as the front line does an average job, we should have no problem winning the division. I mean, seriously, you think GB DET or CHI's offenses can get beat our defense? not a chance! As for Booty, I hope he works out well, for the simple reason, I want to get a jersey with the name BOOTY on it. Go Vikes!

"All the player rankings.." Sorry, but I don't subscribe to People Magazine or the National Inquirer. In Mel's world (we're just living in it) he's better than Kenny Phillips. Let's step outside Mel's world for a second...
Profootball weekly had him rated #60 overall and #2 safety. So, how could he be better than Phillips? They also state that Phillips has slighty better cover skills at this point, but Johnson is a bigger hitter and actually has better speed, and... Phillips lacks great ball skills.
With the ability to backup Sharper and learn from Sharper, Madieu and Boulware? This guy is gonna be great and (I know it sounds strange...) Vikes could have one of the best overall group of safeties in the NFL. When was the last time we could say that?
Well said.
"Northern Viking" needs to check his sources. Couldn't have been more wrong.

I didn't know anything about Johnson prior to us picking him, so I did a little digging too.
The more I read about him, the more I like him.

There is a misunderstanding going around that Guion is a bad guy. I've even heard him described as a thug. He was one of 32 players{?} suspended in a cheating scandal. Hardly a deal breaker.
His nickname is Baloo, from The Jungle Book, because he is a giant easy-going big kid.
As for Radovich, the only character issue I could find is that he doesn't work with weights as much as he should. Still, he wasn't in any way described as being lazy. He showed up every Saturday and did well.
Anyway, the character stuff has been dealt with very well on this team. Childress changed the zoo atmosphere left over from Green and Tice. Questionable players who wouldn't have been considered the first year can be looked at now. The locker room has changed for the better. Guys like Pacman and Chris Henry are still not likely to get sympathy, but Childress can now deal with a Fred Evans type who changed his attitude when he came here.

anyone see the article on nfl.com yet about andre woodson being the best QB in the draft? i agree with him on most accounts and actually said something pretty similar about four hours ago after he was drafted. although i like booty, i was really hoping we would pick up woodson. actually i was thinking he was worth a much higher pick and will prove that to be true in the nfl...is there something i am missing besides just booty being west coast?
i dont think woodson is a very good QB at all even in college i didnt think he was good. everyone thought he was just because kentucky beat a couple good schools. i was surprised to see him fall so far in the draft but i think that is where he should of been drafted.

the main player that was talked about being drafted by us was derrick harvey out of florida. the jaguars ended up trading up in the draft to take him and just might might turn out to be the best pick of the draft in my mind. but we will see in a couple of years. i also heard calais campbell, phillip merling, desean jackson, jeff otah, and keith rivers in the mix as well. but overall i am happy with what they did with the pick. because they got the best DE from the last two years and hes only 25. i would rather the vikings trade for a defensive end other than draft because of their luck with DE's in the draft.

The Vikings pass protection last year was horrendous. None of our QBs had time to throw let alone make progression reads to 2nd or 3rd wr's. Piss poor Wr's, a young QB and the O-Line was the cause of the worst pass offense in the NFL.
McKinnie was burned by speed rushers for 8 plus sacks and numerous knockdowns. Cook is a college C playing RT in the NFL?? He is young and raw with nice size but too much is being asked of him.
Chase Johnson has the size (6'8" 330) to play LT or RT. He needed to work on his footwork and strength/conditioning, and needs a mean streak without hitting someone with a pole. Hicks and Johnson are wasted roster spots. Johnson can't freaking remember the snap count and Hicks is an Eagle retread.... Vikes will need a LT if/when McKinnie is eventually suspeneded.
This has to be the last year for the Cook and Jackson experiments. I hope they work out for everyones sake. On a positive note, I liked the draft and really like Braden Jones at TE. He looked very fluid and had great hands/speed. He caught the ball with his hands!! He would make a nice pass catching TE. Shiancoe can't catch and Kleinsausage is a solid blocker... Grahm, Jones, Rice, Berrian and Wade will be much needed help for AD and TJ.
I agree the game is won on the line. The team needs better quality on the O line, and should have drafted for it. All other positions like QB can not be evaluated properly without the protection.

Get a load of Chilly saying four QB's isn't out of the question. Of course it is! Goodbye Bollinger; maybe you'll catch on with another team after a quarterback injury.
I think Chilly learned his lesson after the Thigpen disaster a year ago. He probably wanted 3 QB's on the team and Thigpen as a developmental player on the practice squad. However this year he has Kyle Wright to look at as a three year project. There may be 4 QB's on the roster but BB probably won't be one of them. Frerotte has two years to be the primary backup but I suspect he will be #3 by the end of the season. Wright might not be good enough for Chilly to keep but I think he wants a third young QB to replace Frerotte in a few years.

BTW Wright has all the tools to be a starting QB. He's 6'4' 220 lbs, a strong arm, good mechanics and ran a 4.7ish 40 yard dash at the combine. A good athelete with a 10'3' broadjump and a 37" vertical at his proday. He is good on the run and accurate. Downside is a tendency to hold onto the ball and force the pass. He needs to work on reading coverages and check down his receivers.(sound familiar?). I'm not saying he is the next Brady but with the proper development and time to learn how to play the position, he could be the proverbial diamond in the rough.

Sagittarius

You're in rather a downbeat mood, Sagittarius, and you definitely need cheering up. Unfortunately, it's heavy weather at the moment, as Mars slows and the cosmos rather disturbed, but later in the month is wonderful for you. Money problems are particularly difficult to deal with right now, because you can't help worrying about them. Now that prevents you seeing the best course of action to solve them. Relax, even miserable moods soon pass.
