If it's a true competition for the job, we should see Gus as our starter. This article make it look like competition for quarterback is a thing of the past.

With both Minnesota and gb vying for Gus' services, Frerotte made the easy choice, the Vikings. Now maybe gb can cough up a second rounder for Sage.

I like Gus as #2. I'd have just a couple questions: 1) If he had to start, would Childress hamstring his play by forbidding audibles like he did with Johnson? 2) Does Gus still have "it"? 3) I doubt it, but will he be allowed to compete for #1?- On the brighter side, look what Garcia did. Maybe Frerotte could do the same. Either way, he's a good mentor for TJax. I can see why he'd come here instead of GB. Slacker fans will no doubt have their excuses as to why he didn't wind-up there. They're famous for that.

The Vikings screwed up by not getting Sage...we are wasting a playoff opportunity with Jackson.

I think we;re all going to see an improved T-jax this year. 2 years expierience and now a mentor in Frerotte should bring his game up. QB coaches can coach all they want, but until a guy like T-jax acually has a teacher with real game expierience to show him the nuances of the game, he's just going out and doing what is says in the book. It will also help that now we have a receiver that can acually catch a long ball and be that threat we've needed to take the pressure off the run game. I'm ready for a very exciting year, so let's GO VIKES!!!!

I think Tarvaris can improve with a veteran presence but Sage is a better pure passer then Tarvaris. The Vikings have a pretty decent trio of WRs now with Berrian, Rice and Wade as long as Rice can stay healthy so there really shouldn't be any more excuses for Jackson if he indeed is the Vikings #1 again this year.

The bottom line is that the Vikings need a QB who can make the big play to relieve the pressure from All Day...we can't have 8-9 men in the box this year and expect Adrian to plow through that. He needs help and I just don't know if Tarvaris is the QB to do that.

Agreed. But I hope that they crank-up A. Allison too. You can see the potential in him too. Not just Rice. Berrian's dropped more than a few too. But he's a far, far better WR than Troy Sissorshands EVER was or probably ever will be. None of them are a Moss, but they could have a slightly "watered-down" version of the good 'ol days with Berrian, Rice, and Allison.

Don't disregard Wade either...he's not a #1 or #2 for that matter but he makes for a great slot WR...Allison provides solid return ability and big play potential.

Not to forget about Ferguson...we actually have 5 WRs that can play so I like our situation much better then last year as far as the WR position goes.

It is the receivers that make QBs look good. Brady looks good because no matter where he throws a pass, one of his receivers makes him look like a genius. When Culpepper threw to Moss, didn't matter where he threw it, Moss would catch it. Jackson looked bad throwing to a wide open Williamson only to have ball dropped repeatedly.

Now that the Vikings possibly have a receiver or two, I expect Jackson to look a lot better. Even if he is not any better, he will look a lot better.

What Ever wrote:
Yeah the Vikings got 5 WRS, but are they good enough to stretch out the defence to keep them from crowding up the line with 8 or 9 men in the box to stop the run and can Jackson pass the football and hit the wide outs and not over throw them? I saw nothing last year out of Jackson at QB. I'm not a fan of Bollinger or Gus at QB either. The only thing that the Vikings have is Peterson and everyone knows that is all we have and they are going to try and stop the Vikings from using him.
IF Jackson can improve his QB play with the receivers now on the team, AD will just be all that more dangerous.
To quote Childress, this 'kick a$$ offense' could truly be just that with TJ taking it up a notch. Even a moderate passing attack will open things up for AD and CT.
I like what the Vikes have done during the FA period, and with another stellar draft they could surprise us with a great season.

Yeah, I didn't mean to disregard Wade or Ferguson. I should've included them. They're both best described as "reliable" receivers in my books. I really think that The Vikes ought to pick-up a GOOD prospect QB too. And let Bollinger go. Then Gus can mentor two young guys. THAT would be best for a longer term future.
Best to think about Birks' successor too. AND McKinnies too. I know that we need DEs. Still think Robison's an up-and-coming sensation.

Back to the article -- if Chilly is going to stick with TJ, which is now pretty obvious, Gus is a pretty good choice. He did a lot for Pep when he was with us earlier and he can adequately fill in if need be, but I agree he's no starter.
I also agree with Archangel where we need to draft another QB prospect for #3 while the vet is with us. Sorry Brooks...you've had your shot. And TJack...this is your last - please prove us wrong.

I've seen brooks play o.k. and,I seen him just plain terrible.I think we need line help on both sides of the ball.I like Birk, but he got beat alot last year.I wouldn't mind one of those young QBs.We'll see how it plays out.Let's hope the cards fall in our favor.People from minny are so tough on the team.

People need to quit saying our receivers drop too many passes. It was ONE receiver who dropped passes and he now plays for the Jags. We have two receivers who can stretch defenses in Berrian and Allison, and good possession receivers in Wade, Ferguson and Rice. Also, people need to let go of this whole Sage Rosenfels thing. Just because he won 4 out of 5 games last year everyone thinks he should come here and try to start. For what? What did he do in his previous seasons with Washington and Miami? 24 TDs and 19 INTs......wow! Jackson is our starter and will be better than last season. Eli Manning, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer have proved that you don't have to be a "superstar" to win the Super Bowl, or even a playoff game at that. As for the Frerotte signing, I think it will be good for Jackson. Anyone remember when Frerotte was here the first time, he was ALWAYS with Daunte on the sidelines, showing/teaching him things and those two years Daunte had great years. I know he'll help out Jackson in the same way and I'm excited to see how Jackson uses that knowledge in his game.

Picking up a guy like Henne or Brennan in the 3rd or 4th wouldn't be a bad idea. Let them compete and kick Bollinger out of a roster spot. There's a reason we got him for a 6 or 7th round pick from the jets. If he couldn't make it there, why do we have him here? Childress needs to get past the glory days of Wisconsin, this aint the big ten! I think Tarvaris can have a break out year this year. He's going to see alot of one on one coverage, and Sidney & Bernard can make teams pay. Im hoping Allison wins the slot job because Bobby Wade can't get out of his own way. We need speed out there to scare teams, not 5 foot 9 slow guys. He's like a poor man's Wes Welker, except black (I think?) This draft is going to suck, I see a lot of meat-head lineman and maybe a Qb being taken, that's nothing to get excited about. Why both taking a DE in the first round? We got about 3 or 4 First or 2nd round picks that couldnt get the job done, why is Derrick Harvey or Phillip, or any of these other guys going to be different... Draft a O-Lineman. Take a road-grader for our less than special line.

He fits the offense...hes a pure passer...he won't close his eyes like Tarvaris and throw an airball and pray it lands in a Vikings WR's hands...only Favre can get away with that.

Green Bay wasn't trying too hard to get Gus, maybe they know something we dont. Here's a Quote from an article in scout.com .

"Frerotte? The Packers probably can do better than to sign Gus Frerotte as their top backup. However, it would be beneficial for the Packers to sign a veteran as soon as possible."

"Does Frerotte have enough in him to help the Packers win games if Rodgers is injured? Doesn't seem like it. He was 1-3 in the four games where he either started (three games) or played significantly for the Rams last year."

"Frerotte played in eight games total, stepping in when Marc Bulger was injured, and completed 94 of 167 passes for 1,014 yards and seven touchdowns. He was intercepted 12 times and had a quarterback rating of 58.3."

Lets hope TJack doesn't get hurt. Lets face it Childress is going to stick with him no matter what so let's hope for the best.
