Defense struggling to force turnovers

Full story: Baltimore Sun

As pressed as the Ravens might be about avoiding turnovers, the defense might be nearly as anxious about forcing them.

That pretty much sums up the season. 35 turnovers by the offense, only 18 takeaways by the Defense and a very low 25 sack total. that's it in a nut shell. 15 less turnovers and we're at least .500

While injuries have played a huge part in our losses, we need the backups to be just as good as the starters, period end of story!!!!!!!!!!

When you are usually starting 3rd, or 3rd and 4th string CBs its hard to get interceptions since the receivers are so wide open. The Ravens can blitz all they want but w/o coverage someone (many times more than one) is always open and you can't get the sack or the interception.
They really need to find a replacement for Rolle and a quality 3rd CB since the current backups have proven unable to play in the NFL.

It is about time everyone looks at the defense. There have been a couple of games that the offence had the game won just to wach the defense give up big plays on the last play or down of the opposing team. Lets not put this all on the quarterback. Yeah he could be better but first he needs a good offensive front line.

Many people think that the Ravens have the talent to be a playoff team but in the NFL, depth is a necessity which the Ravens don't have. Everyone wants to jump on Billick, which may be warranted but Ozzie Newsome needs to be held accountable for this lack of depth especially at a positon like cornerback. The injury excuse doen't hold water because I remember a few years ago when the Pats used Troy Brown a WR at corner and kept on winning and making the playoffs etc.

Finally, some intelligent comments.

Behind two aging CBs we have Prude, Martin, Pittman, Ivey? That is the result of poor talent evaluation OR poor development.

We enter the 2007 season with an uncertain JO and no RT at all, and then we do not draft an OT until after we take a KICK RETURNER?

Billick must go, but not alone.

I totally agree about Ozzie being thrown in the mix with this mess. He is known for gathering all this great unknown talent but as soon as it is noticed by the rest of the NFL, they leave the Ravens for other places and we end up with these crappy backups, like this years team. The secondary needs a major overhaul to solid up this defense. With or without a pass rush, you have to be able to cover and these JV players can't do that.

The needs are cb, qb, wr, rb, coach, assistants and guts & wisdom to know the difference. Without money in the cap, that's a very tall order.

P.S. Stash Billick in the front office. You can talk about the game in pressbox, have couple drinks, smoke a cigar, laugh, etc, etc.

Last year Prude was Beast. He's a keeper for sure.
