I was never in favor of acquiring Brett Favre and have posted several times about it. But I believe that I was never disrespectful of him in my posts. The reason is obvious. It does not make sense to put down a future Hall of Fame player who decided that he may still have a couple of years left in him. Particularly if that player shows up for every game and plays with the kind of enthusiasm that Favre played with.
My problem was with the Jets taking this path last year. Seemed like a short sighted - wishful thinking solution to a problem. But Favre had some good games for the Jets and did some things in the Red-zone that we Jet fans are not used to seeing (gambled and made some plays out of nothing).
He had a great career and perhaps the injury makes it easier for him to realize the time has come. You get the sense from him that as long as he can throw it he will show up to camp and try. Maybe this is what he needs to put it behind him and move on.
