The receivers get a "B" when we see stellar plays like Demetrius Williams' offensive pass interference in the end zone when he STILL couldn't catch the pass?
Yet the QB who threw that laser is worthy of... a "B-"?
Watch the game next time, please.
Seriously...

Preston, get a clue! Flacco had a great game. Sure he made mistakes. Who doesn't? Big road win against team that has owned us for 8yrs. Coach has control of team and players played with dicipline. Suggs looked awesome. Ray filled every hole. Joe threw for a touchdown! Even McGahaee had great day despite injury. Benching McCallister sent a message that worked! Keep it up!

Preston I think you're way off in some of the grading. You grade the receivers too highly (C+ at best) where I'd give Flacco a B+ (maybe even A-), he made a couple typical mistakes but had a great game overall, though I was a little irked when he missed a TD to Heap. I do agree on special teams coverage, they were very weak trying to stop Ted Ginn Jr. You were a tad harsh on the secondary, I think they did pretty well considering C-Mac was out, that scared me when I saw that but they didn't do too badly.

" Stover either has to get more distance on his kickoffs, or the Ravens have to improve their coverage"

How about a third choice, get a new kicker.

The only reason anyone could knock Flacco today is because he looks so good that when he does make a dumb throw you have to pinch yourself to remind yourself he's a rookie. I watched the game in LA and the announcers were gaga about how accurate he was on timing patterns, and how professional he seems already. REMEMBER GANG IT'S 5 GAMES. The guy has amazing cool and ability. I believe he will be a great qb, and I will bet money on it. He is easily the best qb the ravens have ever had and he's just a kid. I see a great qb in a couple of years, and a guy who makes the franchise over ten.

I think you blew it on the special teams grade, Mike. They get an "A". Sam Koch was OUTSTANDING, Stover was 2-for-2, and the coverage was pretty good.......The secondary is REALLY bad right now. ANYBODY can throw on the Ravens at this point. Why ANY of these teams try to run the ball is beyond me!! CB and WR are two positions we desperately need to upgrade!

I got to work this morning hoping to see at least a B+ for Flacco, but I know that is too good to be true with Mike. I don't think he actually watches the game. His agenda is 100% clear - he can pick on Joe's fumble which was recovered, but doesn't mention a word about McGahee's fumble that was recovered by the Dolphins. "Almost intercepted" give me a break! Almosts don't count.

FLACCO HAD A QB RATING OF 120.2 FOR THE MIAMI GAME! HE COMPLETED ALMOST 74% OF HIS PASSES AND AVERAGING 10.1 YARDS PER PASS!! THE SUN NEEDS TO FIRE THIS JOKER SPORTS WRITER!

For 2 weeks in a row the Ravens defense , despite only giving up 13 pts. did not look good especially on pasing downs. The Dolphins got first down yardage whenever they needed it and if Pennington had a stronger more accurate arm he could have looked like Manning yesterday. Absolutely no pass rush 2 weeks in a row, I could have shredded the Rvaens defense yesterday and I am 55 yrs. old. Chad had all day to throw!

I'd love to see the QB that gets an A from Preston. Apparently you have to be perfect because stats don't seem to matter to him.

WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT HE WAS RUNNING A NO HUDDLE OFFENSE AS A ROOKIE! That is pretty impressive I'd say.

Thank God that at least one person here sees the same Frank Walker that I see each week, he is lousy! He could not cover a bed with a blanket! And when he does have a guy covered he never knows the ball is coming and the reciever castches it because Walker doesn't know the ball is coming! Of course if he does not play we have to play McCallister, and he plays about 1 out of every 5 games, he is very good when he wants to play , but he wants to play so infrequently tha he hurts this team big time, you need a coach who can find a way to keep him out of the bars and adult night clubs at 2 in the morning and maybe he will come to play once in awhile!

Again, Preston doesn't watch the game, he just reads box stats. Mike, can you honestly evaluate a game? I mean, Koch did average 59 YPP, but how about the crucial 67 yarder. Jim Leonhardt made a nice move to gain some extra yardage on a sky high punt. Flacco controlled the game very well and you mentioned elsewhere about two fumbles...what game were you watching? The running backs were good yesterday but McGhee did at a critical fumble which didn't end up costing us too much thankfully.

17 for 23 for 238 with a TD and no INT's. All of this from a rookie on the road who continues to learn from mistakes and look more and more comfortable in the pocket. He has had his struggles this year and will again for the rest of it, but this is the first time in the history of this organization in Baltimore that we now finally have a legit QB who is young and on the way up and not over the hill, damaged goods.

Flacco is a great piece to build a team around. They will get better once they get the pieces in place to complement him.

Flacco takes responsibility for his actions, and for the successes and failures of this team. Seasoned veteran soul in a youngster. Wow.

Nahhh, special teams was at least a B just for finally showing up. Stover had a 40+ yarder and we had some decent field position after KO and punt returns. Today was much better. If we can't start defending the pass better,.500 will be hard to reach.
that 67 yard punt at the end was good also . If Flacco hits Heap in the end zone and Macgahee doesn't fumble it would have been easier , but he is learning to find the open man

Mikey do us a favor break down the receivers into 2 categories please: Mason and Others. Flacco should get a trip to Hawaii having to throw to those bums.

How does Flacco deserve an A+ for his performance yesterday? He nearly threw a pick and ended up with one TD, 230 yds and nearly a fumble. He's a rookie with not even ten starts under his belt and you guys want to anoint him? You crucify Preston for having some objectivity about where this kid is in his development, I mean do you guys have any kind of understanding about how to grade players at all? What will you call it when he has a game with three TDs and 250 yds - Hall of Fame? This was a good game but he is young and needs to improve. He has to work on some deep passes before he's "The Best QB The Ravens Ever Had." You're all fellating the kid for beating the Dolphins, but let's see where you all are when he has a bad three or four game stretch. Baltimore sports fans are notorious fair weather fans and I guarantee at least half of you who say Preston is an idiot for giving him less than an A+ will be screaming for Flacco to be benched. It's his first season and he has a lot of work to do. He is not all-Pro and he needs to be surrounded with more talent before any of us will realize what he is capable of. Patience is the word of the year, and Preston is a hell of a writer whether you fools realize it or not. I say that having disagreed with many of his columns initially, but when I go back and read them after I've calmed down, he's usually accurate in his analysis. The man knows the game. Those of you who claim to know it better should spend less time here and more setting up your own blog.

Oh and it's always nice to see the mouthbreathers playing the race card - Preston calls out black players, white players, whatever. Some of you are desperate, and it shows. Get a little perspective.

we need another quarterback to compete with the upper-eshalon of the league. Hands down, we can't compete againt the top 12 teams in this league with an immoble QB. Flacco has done a great job for a rookie, however this organization(Ozzie,Biscotti,Co aches) has not impressed me with improvising(offensive) certain situations.

Preston what were you smoking when you were watching the Game ! Your crappy report cards are getting on all the readers nerves. Atleast before writing the article look at the stats. Flacco's stats were atleast an A.

Keep dreaming on to bring Marvin Lewis as a head coach of Ravens and Troy smith as Quarter back.

Mike you are making more and more fool out of yourself. Stop grading or start having us grade your articles !

I don't know if you noticed, but 60 of Chad Pennington's "nearly 300 yards passing" (295) were on a final garbage drive that ended regulation.

In reality, the Ravens' defense let up about 235 passing yards.

For a patchwork secondary, it really wasn't that bad.
