Gruden has done enough, barely, to deserve another year. One reason for this is that nobody beckons on the horizon that would be a better choice. Gaines Adams will bulk up and should be better next year.
We need to get rid of Simms, we need to sign Graham to a better contract, we need to nail down Penn, we need to finish whatever we are doing to or with Plummer, we need to keep Garcia, and to avoid disaster Monte must stay. Speed at receiver has also become an issue, with Joey Galloway showing his age with frequent nagging injuries. Next year New Orleans will be back with a vengence, but Carolina and Atlanta may still be weak. Every time I would hear we had the number two defense in the league this year, I have to laugh; number two defense with inflated stats earned by playing Atlants, Carolina and New Orleans ecah twice. But the Giants proved that case for me, didn't they? We have at best a mediocre team that is building, suffered a lot of injuries, but still managed to show tremendous heart by staying competitive. We have some excellent players though that made watching the Bucs really interesting this year. |

I think the Bucs had a fine season and should be proud of how far they came with all the injuries and set backs. John Gruden deserves an extended contract because he has turned a corner and if he selects the right players thru free agency, the bucs will become a serious contender. Quarterback, recievers, D-line and D back are critical positions for the draft and free agency.

Gruden is a student of the West Coast Offense. He is competitive. He needs help in some needs by other employees. If fired, I would love to see the Eagles hire him in some capacity. He just needs to know his limits. with others providing him with the resources to give him his due.

Gruden was mired in salary cap hell to begin his regime; on top of that their 4 best draft picks were forfeited by the Glazers to sign Gruden who delivered the Super Bowl rings they craved. He and Bruce Allen would be scarfed up in a minute by NFL bottom feeders if they were available

It's time for Gruden to go. He's underachieved since he got here. His won a Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's team. He drove Rich McKay out of town and got complete control of the team and built it into his image. The owners have given him everything he's wanted and he's done nothing with it. There are good coaches out there like Jim Mora Jr. and Bill Cowher that can rebuild this into a winning team. It's time for a chance and now is the time to do it.

CHUCKY!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, Cowher I can see as a proven coach. But Jim Mora JR ??? What has he done with his coaching career? Bottom line...the Bucs are improving. It's going to take some time to really tweak the team into a winner. We need a good draft and some key pick ups this off-season. Also, keep Kiffin! We have a very good core of talented young players. It's just a matter of time when we are competing for another ring.

TB should never fired the classiest coach in football Tony Dungy. Your loss was our gain.
Bill Cowher would be a good replacement for the overrated John Chucky Gruden. |

chris simms should be our quarterback for the future all he needs is the right attitude and he will lead the bucs for years to come. Gruden need to simplify is offense or get an offensive cordinator if he wants to stick around.

Let's all get real here. First of all. let's stop referring to the rosters as "Tony's team or Jon's team". They both worked for quality general managers. Yes, Rich McKay built those late 90's/early 2000's teams, but in order to win that Super Bowl I remember them stepping out of their salary cap strategy to do it! Hey, I love Tony Dungy and I'm glad he got his ring-but-for whatever reason he could not win the NFC out of how many chances? That being said, I know Jon Gruden is not to blame for the cap decimated team in '03 & '04, and I thought his butt should be on the line after '06. But cap responsible trades/signings, and Bruce Allen's unbelievable drafts the last 2 years,(how many starters out of those...like 4 to 6), have given the Bucs an incredible infusion of youthful talent to mix with the proven vets...they should be as dominate for the next 3 years as they were from '99 to '02...but they need to keep Chucky to do it.

Monty Kiffin has been extended, and all he asks the offense to do is to "hold 'em".
Will they do it? On a serious note - whew, thank goodness and thanks Monty for sticking around. The Bucs really need you. |

McKay stinks, even Atlanta found that out. Gruden - it's still open to debate as to whether he's going to make it as a head coach, or needs to be an offensive co-ordinator for a discipline-maintaining head coach. Next year may tell, if New Orleans and Carolina get back up to par. |
