Nice article, Dr. Phil.

Ogden seems to be weighing retirement because of the physical toll the game takes on the body while Preston thinks Ogden should retire because of the mental strain of not being as dominant as he once was. The problem with that logic is the mental strain does not cause Ogden's play to suffer. If his play doesn't suffer, he is still an asset to the team. If he is still an asset to the team, it does not benefit the Ravens for him to retire. In fact, Preston admits as much by claimint Ogden remains better than 90% of all NFL tackles. It is touching to see how much concern Preston has for Ogden's mental health.

It would seem to me this article is merely to get a reaction, rather than provide any thoughtful analysis, considering the logic of the article breaks down under scrutiny. Although I haven't checked the rest of the posts, I can practically guarantee it achieved this result.

Maybe you should take your own advice and retire Preston. Te difference between you and Ogden is that you always stunk at your job.

Go get a real job you bum.

You can always tell when Preston ghosts in the reply thread. It's always like the second or third post from the top and it's always some slavish gushing..
"That's the greatest article any man has EVER WRITTEN! Great work, Mike!!!"

Good article Mike. I agree with you on several points in this. One thing I have noticed about the Ravens in years of late is that they no longer draft the best guy on the board as they once did. They draft to fill positions. It seems that as years go on, and questions as to Ogden returning continue year after year, so far they have managed to elude drafting a replacement for him. People may make the arguement for Adam Terry or Jared Gaither but lets be honest here, neither one of those guys are in the same universe of Ogden. Ogden was better on draft day, than these guys are today after being in the league. Ogden is a freak of nature. A player that comes along once in a lifetime. The simple fact is that Ogden can never be replaced. The Ravens need to find a new Left Tackle. Someone that is themself and not the next Jonathan Ogden. There will never be another Larry Bird or Michael Jordan or Cal Ripken or Jonathan Ogden. Year after year they have put this off, because they are drafting for position. Well...maybe we need to get a Left Tackle through free agency and go back to drafting the best athlete on the board. Ogden isnt getting any younger and his drive to play isnt getting stronger. Pull the trigger now and get it over with. Ogden has been a great player, a Hall of Famer, but everyone retires and Ogdens physical skills arent the problem here. Ogdens own head is. Ray Lewis is the classic example of this. Does anyone see any end in site for Ray? I doubt Ray does.

Hey Rudy in Vegas, Mike was a lineman at Towson University (not sure what division they were at the time) and he also wrestled in high school. He has at least been there and done that, albeit at a lower level. And I guess someone who has never run for office has no business writing about politics either, right?
