Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

According to the story we got an "undisclosed future draft pick."

Maybe you ought to qualify your statement just a bit. We've kept Beck at this point, but don't celebrate too much yet if you're a Beck fan, b/c I still wouldn't say he's altogether safe to survive past the cut-down. I do acknowledge it seems more likely now, but still not guaranteed by any means.

Yes, you got it right. They never promised they were going to keep 4, so it wasn't a lie. I just wish if people are going to be so eager to accuse Tuna/Sparano of lying, they'd do us all the favor of paying attention to details and getting their facts straight. Anyway, kudos to you for the correction.

Sounds like a win-win situation all around. McCown went to a team where he can probably earn a backup role to Delhomme, Miami gets to keep Beck. Beck gets to stick around and continue to develop, and the Dolphins get a draft pick while also unloading a $6.25M contract.

I'm sure it's not a high draft pick, probably a 5th-7th round pick, but even adding those late-round picks increases the Dolphins flexibility to move around come draft day.

The Jets for the time are saying in keeping Ainge. Still if it happens I wouldn't mind. 6'5" and 221 lbs. only 22 years old. Physically without a doubt a no contest in comparison with the Cameron BYU draft grab. Unfortunately haven't seen any Jets preseason games. Can't tell how he has performed. No idea.

To add to that Bravphin called it all the way, but I still dont see much of a future here for him. Anyone who knows me here knows that I never bashed Beck, and I still dont want to, but until now we havent seen a whole hell of allot from him except fumble after fumble. I dont know what to do with him. He is definatly not starting this year unless both Chads go down, or if C.P. goes down do they throw Beck back to the wolves and save Henne for next year. Now our backup QB spot is becoming a nightmare scenario...GO PHINS!!!
I think your initial statement is more likely the true one. Beck (if indeed he's kept, which I still don't think is guaranteed) doesn't play unless the other two both go down. It's obvious they're grooming Henne for next yr, and I think--especially given Beck's apparent jittery mental state now--they'd take the opportunity if Penny went down to accelerate the process w/ Henne by getting him more snaps. Plus, I think they feel much more comfortable at this point that Henne gives the team a better chance to win than Beck. And if they keep Beck with a view to rehabilitating him, my guess is they would want to let him watch and learn as much as possible as a way of taking the pressure off and hopefully rebuilding his confidence in small steps. Throwing him in right away again if Penny went down might be enough to toast him for good at this point.(I think you know I've been and remain a Beck supporter, so I'm not kicking him, but you're right, the fumbles happen so consistently, for whatever reason, that it's very troubling. I sure hope he can get over that.)

I wish this was Beck leaving. McCown has starting experience and would be better insurance if Penny goes down. Don't forget Beck and Mccown were close in age. The other teams know that Mccown is better or else they would have traded for Beck and we know he was on the block. I say get rid of him also .
I really thought Beck would be traded before McCown (even though I want them to keep Beck) b/c I felt Beck has more upside than McCown and would therefore bring more in a trade. I'll grant you McCown would be better insurance at this pt if Penny goes down b/c of the experience factor you cited, but I like keeping Beck (if we do) for several reasons:

1. McCown may be better right now, but he's not going to improve much. He is what he is. Beck, on the other hand, has much more upside if he can get his confidence and mental focus back.

2. If they do eventually decide to trade Beck, it would make more sense to do so after giving him some time to be rehabilitated. Right now his trade value isn't too high, but it may improve if they hang onto him until the draft when they could perhaps use him as part of a package deal in the wheeling and dealing that typically occurs around draft time.

3. Frankly, I'm not too interested in 'better insurance' in the short-term. They're not going anywhere this season anyway, experienced backup or not. I'd much rather put the effort into developing the future. If they keep Beck and he manages to turn around, then they increase the value of their cards, whether they decide to ultimately keep or trade him? If he turns into a solid QB in the end, we'll have two good young QB's. Do you realize what a bonus that would be, what flexibility that would give us? Most teams in the NFL would kill for two good young QB's. All you have to do is look at Cleveland as an example. They're in an enviable position with Anderson and Quinn. Tremendous leverage. It sure would be nice if the Fins would join them.

Spot on. Excellent post. You're thinking like a GM. Many fans underestimate the value of stockpiling late-rd picks. In addition to the possibility of getting solid players late in the draft (as it appears we may have done w/ Donald Thomas), it always increases the options on draft day as you said b/c you can sometimes package quantity in exchange for quality given the right partner. This is an old JJ draft strategy and I love it.

I asked Omar if McCown might have more trade appeal and was knocked down. True, I had McCown going to the packers when Rogers got hurt. My bad. Omar told me in his blog that Sparano would rather have a backup that wouldn't need too many reps. So much for that theory huh? Trust me here, I'm not saying Beck is better. He is in all probability a 3rd string quarterback at best. Madesense that someone would want McCown first. He is game ready.

Beck is a rehab project that at best will make him a backup somewhere in this league. I still believe the fins unload him before cut down with trade, wait for injuries during season and trading deadline, or before draft day.
I would like to see him rehabbed but how many snaps is he going to get during practice maybe he'll be inactive during game day all season? Remember drew hension he didn't work out, Romo did, so maybe their is hope. I like how the Dolphins staff installed the 3 second clock buzzer which helps the QB's.
Giants veteran cornerback R.W. McQuarters said he had not seen a Super Bowl-winning defense like the ones the Giants featured last season since Tampa Bay's championship defense. That defense, said McQuarters, gave quarterbacks on average three seconds to throw the ball. Three seconds, he said, and then your quarterback would be hit. Oftentimes, the Giants duplicated that last season in their defensive result.
Right now Beck is useless to the Dolphins until he gets over this confidence problem. They changed his throwing motion maybe this had something to do with his problem?

Man, you gotta love parcells! First a draft pick for jason taylor. Then a draft pick for travis daniels. Now a draft pick for mccown! Miami will be able to fill a lot of holes in next years draft!
