rookies should get a flat rate until
they prove their play(work) is worth it..

Flat rate?

Sounds good to me! A flat rate base salary, plus performance-based incentives. Let their play determine their compensation. The collegiate stars are men among boys. Let's evaluate them as men among men, in the actual arena of NFL competition..

It seems Brady Quinn should show some gratitude!! Troy Smith may end up being just as good in the pros. It seems the Browns gave too much to get Brady, there's a legitimate reason he fell in the draft. He has difficulty hitting targets that are on the run. He got away with this collegiately, but it's a real problem at the pro level. At this level, you will not have Szamardja standing with no one with in twenty yards. I know the fans love this pick, but we'll all be moaning when we have no first rounder next year.

Speaking of help on the line.... guess who was just cleared by doctors to get back on the field.... YES... LeCharles Bentley has been cleard by doctors to return to the practice field. Browns team doctors will have to clear him as well though. That man is just determined to play football and i believe he will return and contribute which is HUGE for this team.

In regards to "Absence at camp could hurt". How can you "hurt" a team like the Browns?

Wow!! I had not yet heard this news. I've been somewhat skeptical. I hope I'm truly wrong!! Either way, my hat's off to LeCharles for getting his life back on track. It will be interesting to see what the team doctors say.

The NFL needs to reign in this whole system before it "kills" them. They need an accepted rookie payscale.... example.... picks 1-5 get a window of league minimum x8-10... with an additional percentage due to the position they play.(example... QB +10%, RB +8%, OL +3% etc).
Just anything or something that MAKES SENSE. Maybe even paying players after the year for their actual performance! I find it ridiculous that a guy like Larry Johnson is demanding $$$ equivalent to Tomlinson.... who is on track to BE a HOF player! Johnson is just starting to prove himself. Tomlinson has been consistently worth the money EVERY YEAR. It just doesn't make sense that a player can "hold out" when they signed a contract. It also doesn't make sense that a player is anchored to an unjust contract when their performance kinda dictates otherwise.
The current player salary system is like a cancer.... it keeps growing and growing out of control.... until it kills its host.
And the problem isn't just the players. It is also partly the owners fault. I will never begrudge them making a profit... but at what point should their little "monopoly" be reigned in some? The NFL has too much latitude in managing the big picture.

I absolutely think Brady Quinn should not hold the Browns hostage for top 10 draft pick pay. I mean the Browns rescued his butt from going later than 22 and possibly into round 2. He will definately put himself in horrible position in his developement, he needs all the instruction, reps and film study experience available at training camp. He needs to show a lot more gratitude and get his rear end into camp like yesterday! Browns fans will turn on the homeboy real quick if this turns into a money haggling Quinn holdout. Speaking of QB the BROWNS should sign Dante Culpepper to a contract. I personally dont feel good about Frye or Anderson as our starting QB and of course Quinn doesnt know squat yet. Culpepper still has what it takes and can help this team with his leadership and experience as well as his strong arm smarts. Crennel and Savage too me are NUTS for staking the team and there Jobs on below average to average QBS in Frye and Anderson if they loose there jobs they deserve it for the talent at QB alone. Back to getting into camp. Joe Thomas man dont be so greedy bro, you aint done nothing yet. 20 Million bucks as a signing bonus for a young pup lineman like you even as the 3rd all around pick is insane , I will give you $16-17.5 mill tops. WAKE up top 3 Browns picks dont miss out on camp by being to greedy. Its gonna hurt you and your team on the field and frustrate Browns fans real quick I know I am getting tense and a little hot especially at Quinn. Like to see you all get a fair deal dont get me wrong but I see greed in your eyes

The NFL has most of its economics in order, with the exception of rookie contracts. They need to take a page out of the NBA's book and have standard rookie contracts in place to prevent holdouts.

You took Thomas no.3 pay him. If Quinn was a TOP 10 PICK WHY WASN'T HE CHOSEN?Wright should realize the Browns gave you your chance now earn your money. All you young men with all your God given ability use it. The money will come. Phil I love your draft but if your going to be hard nose it wont amount to a hill of BEANS.

I am really started to get annoyed with all the negative publicity Quinn, Thomas, and Wright are getting. I want to believe they want to be here and that money isnt the issue, but it is. At the same time its discouraging to see these guys caring more about the money than just being on the field and playing in the NFL. I will be patient with our rookies who havent signed though.
I am begging you, PLEASE, take charge and turn this team around. You have no idea we have been waiting for you guys!!! Brady, this is your team. Joe this is your team, your type of town, Wright, this is your team. We are your fans. We want you here!!!!!

Thomas should get good money, contingent upon his performance. Top money for an OL draft choice should be expected but nothing more.

Wright needs to remember how lucky he is that ANYONE took a chance on him. Sign a contract, get to work and prove your worth, Wright. Plenty of time to go after a raise.

Quinn, I don't even care anymore. He was the worst QB in mini camp! He certainly has done nothing to endear himself to Browns fans. He can sit in Condon's spare room and play video games for 2007.

Phil is doing his job. He is not going to let the team get robbed by some "hard nose" sports agent or some prima donna unproven rookie.
I remember Thomas and Wright chiming in with Quinn in saying it's important to just get signed and play in the first year. The big money will come later. Yeah, what happened to all that?

Far as I'm concerned, Quinn is 2008 trade bait.
Improve the O line and don't need a much tauted pretty boy QB. You're right, he is inaccurate as heck and proved that in mini camp. He has impressed no one. The Browns let Charlie Weiz sell them a bill of goods! Now its just a big ball of wax and a major distraction.
