DETROIT – I watched an interesting football game today at Ford Field. There were several defensive players buzzing about, coming from all sides to and through the quarterback, having a defensive team meeting in the backfield, stopping and tilting the opponent’s offense game plans to mostly three and outs the majority of the first half. This same team’s offense matched their defense in effort. The quarterback had plenty of time to audible at the line, read the defense and adjust the plays like taking candy from a baby. The no huddle offense totally blew the opponents defense mindset, was obviously intimidating, and was immensely successful. The running backs ran outside past the ends, squared their shoulders, and ran to daylight – that shining end zone. Yes, it was a great team performance.
Now lets look at how the Browns played. Let me say that I am a Brown’s fan, always have been, always will be. But, seeing the last three games has me gravely concerned about this season. The third pre-season game is supposed to be the “fine tuning” game of pre-season. This is where the coaches make some final adjustments to their primary game plans, have their ones on the field for the majority of the first half, then mostly evaluate players, and a few plays they need to polish to prepare for the season. That didn’t happen for one team on the field today. The Browns looked like it was a pre-season scrimmage (like they used to do a few years back at Browns stadium). The offense was not on the same page once during most of the first half, and not much better the second. Yes, there were players missing – injured. Looking at this year’s prime time schedule and the teams we’re playing - get used to playing short-handed – learn to adopt and overcome! Winning teams and coaches do this all the time. Didn’t happen. Brady’s performance today shows he is still not ready to assume the starting job. Many times there were eight or more in the box – yet no blitz pick up– he showed the lack of recognizing the defense, calling an audible for max protection, keeping the back(s) to pick up the blitzes and stunts to allow time to move the chains. Didn’t happen. The receivers and tight ends knowing the QB was pressured almost all game should be looking back for the ball to help their QB – you learn this in Pop league ball. Didn’t happen. They also dropped more balls then they caught. It was a “butterfingers” convention for the receiving core – had trouble catching the ball, and when they did, they did not place themselves at the first down markers. Once again, beginning players learn this, and are coached this – go PAST the first down marker, catch the ball – move the chains. Didn’t Happen. The defense had their share of challenges as well. Lions backs ran outside on them whenever they felt like it. You’re taught at an early age to stay in your lane, play your position watch for the ball carrier, and DO NOT let him by you – no matter what. Didn’t happen. Tackling is to some an art. Near misses, missed tackles and loose one armed attempts may be fine the first walk through of spring training, but at this point in the pre-season is inexcusable. Fundamentals are not being enforced, nor proper techniques to perfection by execution. Didn’t happen. Lions exploited the seams in a defense that already has way too many challenges – showing our regular season opponents what they found to work and how to do it. Three defenders at or before the goal line, and the Lion’s receiver still pushed forward into the end zone. Get low, drive a shoulder into the man, arch your back, and follow through until you’re both eating grass. Didn’t happen. |

Having a coach that is well liked by the players…hmmm… with these results? I would much rather the Head Coach has the respect of the players. A coach that knows how to stop practice when the fundamentals and techniques are not followed, and makes the players execute until they get it right or puke. Like an old coach always used to say...”what you do in practice you do in performance (games).” Don’t care how many Super Bowl rings an Assistant Coach has – only care about what the same guy does as Head Coach. Some are born to lead- others are born to follow. Leadership inspires results.
Unfortunately today, that didn’t happen. |

Romeo must GO and take Juliet with em.

Cant tackle, Cant protect, cant cover, cant play without penalties. Cant win this year.

No pass rush again. No DB's can cover with the amount of time the opposing qb's getting to throw the ball. Not looking good in my opinion. Not enough depth. Hope Mel Tucker is better than he is showing right now. Todd Grantham looks better and better after these three exhibition games. It surely has been an "exhibition", but not the kind that I'd like to see!

This too shall pass, Brownie Fans.

I'm worried. The Browns are not playing well and maybe last year was a fluke? I'm hoping they turn it around before Game 1, but it sure isn't looking good for us Browns fans right now, and Brady didn't play well at all. Come back DA and save us.
GO BROWNS - WOOF WOOF !!! |

The Browns tickets will drop in price and be readily available.
I would love to see them try yo beat Ohio State |

That did not look like a professional football team. No emotion. No passion. No fight from any of them. Just took a butt-whopping like a bunch of whimps.

This is a poor team that has a handful of good players. Poorly coached, this unit has little discipline. After several seasons at the helm, Mr. Crennel's team continues to have sideline confusion and shows unpreparedness on the playing field. Over penalized and confused too often. Poor tackling adds much woe. This team WILL win three games, however. Throw in the two games that every team wins that they shouldn't and you will have a five and eleven season. Mr. Crennel will be seeking employment elsewhere in the month of November.

Well, if nothing else, I think we saw something yesterday that's been kinda somewhat glossed over - we got BIG troubles in the defensive backfield. Forget the absence of Jones and Pool - our corners are most likely gonna get toasted all season long. Cover help from the safety position can only carry a team so far. I hope I'm dead wrong, but I'm thinking this offense is going to have to score an average of 27 PPG just to be in the hunt each Sunday. Now while that can make for some exciting football, I'll take a "W" via a solid defensive performance every time. Hang on to your hats once again this season Brownies fans - it's gonna be a real bumpy ride, I fear.

NO RUN....NO WIN..
We didn't even try....15 runs called and they gained 52 yards... The QB will always be under pressure if the defense doesn't have to worry about the Run... How do you buy time for the QB... Swing passes to the RBs...Draw plays...Sweeps... |
||||
|
Once again we have seen what tackling looks like if it is NEVER practiced....
Have we had a good tackling team since Romeo got here with his no hit policy?....Answer... Our defense has fallen from 15th. to 30th in the NFL in the Romeo years... |

Multiple Choice:
A. It's just preseason, it don't matter B. Cripes! The Browns stink! The season is lost! C. The coaches don't want to show anything now. D. It's the injuries. The Browns'll fine when the team gets back up to strength. E. Why does a team that beat one opponent with a winning record, lost both to its archrival, didn't make the playoffs, and faces a much harder schedule this year need a wake-up call? F. Keep this up, I'll rethink my purchase of the opening day ticket. |

New England can get blown out in all of their Pre-Season games....They can afford too...They know they can win...
This no hitting, no tackling....EVER... policy is just Moronic....You don't get tackling from Book Learnin. Yes. I understand that no NFL teams hit in Practice everyday and when the season starts rarely hit in practice but they sure as heck do in traing camp and Pre-Season...especially when the team CAN'T TACKLE. We were Man Handled by the Giants...I think that is the direct result of Not hitting..It is something you need to get accustom to as a football player... THE GIANTS WERE NOT BIGGER OR STRONGER THEN OUR GUYS...BUT THEY WERE TOUGHER |

Again, this team wasn't ready to play.
I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what positives this coach brings to the table. There was a reason he was a career assistant coach. Three years - no playoffs. Three years and he's 0-6 vs. Pgh. As long as he's here you'll see more of the same. |

Brady is only going to get better. He is determined to win. This is going to be a good year for the Browns! They would blow the ohio state buckeyes back into the ice age!
