What's Stopping the Ravens This Season Is Their Defense

There are 1 comment on the New York Times story from Oct 19, 2009, titled What's Stopping the Ravens This Season Is Their Defense. In it, New York Times reports that:

Can it really be less than three weeks since the Baltimore Ravens appeared to have a realistic chance to beat the New England Patriots and assume supremacy in the American Football Conference? That game, it turns out, may still be a signal moment for the Ravens franchise, for all the wrong reasons.

All true. What is not mentioned is the fact that head coach John Harbaugh has given up his role of leadership to Ray Lewis & embraced 'the world is out to get us' self pity mentality that is rampant in Baltimore. After the loss to New England & Ray's rant about the new rules protecting the QB, Harbaugh sheepishly fell in line & has sent tapes to the NFL office asking for an investigation. In the Cincinnati game Ray was fined for 2 violations, one that nearly took the head off of Chad Ochocinco. The only person to my knowledge to defend that play was Harbaugh. Ray has continued to say he will break the rules whenever he wants. That attitude contributed to the loss in Cincinnati & it is Harbaughs job to reign him in, not encourage him. Baltimore has enough cheerleaders, what they need is a coach who can transform this good team to a championship caliber team. That is Harbaughs job, instead he has lost control of a team in his 2nd season & we see them reverting to their old ways of immature behavior that sees them losing the close games & not making the growth necessary to becoming an elite team.
