Sounds like a burner or a stinger. Nerve injuries are tough because medical science has no solid responses, except in the case where the impingement is caused by a skelatal mis-alignmnet (typically a vertabrae or slipped disc). If Reed's condition is not related to a skelatal issue and there is no risk of long-term damage, then he is just dealing with pain.

May be a better case for playing through it than with Shawn Merriman (who is stupidly putting his career at risk with 2 torn knee ligaments).

this is not good. Actually, in order to make the season exciting, we need him now and probably won't need him at the end when we have a total of 4 to 5 wins.

As much as we need his presence, I am not gonna worry about it as much. He'll bounce back, but CAREER ENDING SURGERY?? WHAAAAAAAAAT??
We can't have that. The best Safety in football can't just walk away like that!! Although we drafted 2 SOLID SAFTIES in Zbikowski and Nakamura, but ED REED is a different ANIMAL. I hope everything works out.

Next year Harbaugh clearly needs to do something about the situation of veterans finding ways out of camp. He either needs to ease up in camp, or crack down on the all fake injuries, ...ideally both.

Career ending surgery? And we're just now hearing about this because?

not really just hearing about it, that was the speculation for the past couple weeks. He just confirmed it today. All I got to say is I hope somebody cheapshots Hines Ward for that late hit he put on Reed last season in Pitt that snapped his head back. I wouldn't be surprised if that had something to do with the neck injury.

Wait, so surgically repairing this problem will end his career? My goodness is this scary, not only for us but for Ed Reed! I guess he will never be the same again =( How did this happen!?

What the F? Sounds like the Ravens need a new medical staff. Not that they could do anything about this case, but it seems like the players are self diagnosing and making the call on whether they are "healthy enough to play" or coming into camp with injuries from last year and no therapy over the off season. Don;t we have an on-staff Dr and team of trainers and specialists to care for these high dollar assets, I mean players?

Does not sound good, sounds like last season for Ed. I think camp cream puff was better. How many healthy players do you have left, but hey, young Hardball made his point. I think he needs to watch the junction boys, when a young Bear Bryant beat up his team in practice to the point of destruction.

If you listen to the interview, Ed also says he's had shoulder issues since high school and this is just a build up of that injury. He also says he does not need the surgery right now.

Even though he's been playing with this for a while, the whole situation is pretty scary. You do not want to miss around with nerve issues around the shoulders and neck. Above anything else, Ed needs to get well.

I hope Ed Reed is OK and that he can play ASAP. We need him. I just read a post on CoastToCoastRavens.com where New Orleans Saints LB Jonathan Vilma talks about Willis McGahee, Ed Reed and Ray Lewis. Vilma said he expects McGahee and Reed to be up to par this year. Let's hope he's right. Much of our season may rest on their health.

Get a high draft pick in a TRADE. The team needs a player to be healhty and full time on the field. Ed has been great but the ravens need a player full time. See ya ed and best of luck to you. If other players from the old coach do this, get rid of them( Suggs, McCallister, and some others. Start geting younger plyers for the future, the old guys are showing their age.

Let's not forget that several of the veterans went under the knife (or scope). I don't think those were fake injuries.

And let's give Harbaugh a little slack: he inherited an old,, thin team with some dangerous personality flaws. I trust we'll see a significantly different roster next year.

Is Jonathan Vilma the new personal physician for McGahee and Reed?
