u said all u could bout how favre was incosistent with his throwing...but how bout the play callin by mangini?? ever thought bout that?..wat about defense who couldn't stop the run or even make tackles...3rd and 2 after L.J got intercepted late in the 4th in bills terriotry..mangini decides to run the ball? not even a quick pass to the outside or nothin? had to settle for a field goal instead of a touchdown

Wallace, you might be right...it was an improbable win. But a win is a win is a win. If the Jets had given the game away in the same manner as the Bills, the article would have had the tenor of "same old Jets" and you would have been right.

This time, the Jets were the recipients of the fortuitous bad call by the opposition and subsequent poor execution, as well as the amazingly great ball bounce. Let's enjoy it for a week.

I love how you just gloss over how lucky the first INT was for Buffallo. First of all, it should have been caught by Coles, and then it gets knocked off a defenders leg into someone else's hands?? Thats just as much of a bad break as the fumble recover for a TD the jets got. THATS FOOTBALL. do you know how many times the jets have been on the losing side of a game or play like that?

Let me give you a little insite into the NFL..from week to week you do not know how the teams are going to come out and play. I have no clue how seattle is going to play next week..they could be horrible, or they could be fantastic. Getting the win is all that matters. Sure the jets played poorly, and had way too many mental mistakes, but you can't look at yesterday's game and say thats how they'll play next week. not in the NFL.

Well played Wallace Matthews. Finding this level of scathing after a win is a nice surprise. I figured he still had you all fooled.

Coles was covered on the first INT. Only a perfect throw gets caught. Brett can't make the perfect throw anymore. Further, when all you do is throw inside 10 yards in the middle of the field defenders are going to conregate there and catch "lucky bounces". It's a factor of luck and Brett's inability to stretch the field

WM makes some good points, but why does this guy have to overwrite everything like every sentence will be his last and he can't help himself from himself? Where's his editor? Bottom line is it's a win. I'm so used to the Jets being on the Bills' end of this kind of thing, that I'm incredibly happy one went NY's way. The thing about this team is that they are capable of doing great things but lost for now on how to accomplish them. They have the talent. They can put it all together. The question is will they find a way to coordinate and peak at the right time? As in from here on out!!

I wonder why Newsday didnt can this guy when they laid off some of their writers last week. Wallace Matthews has no clue of what he's writing about. A win is a win. It's the NFL. Anything can happen. Just look at the Texans-Titans. They got a break on a bad play call but who cares. Bills got a fortunate interception too. Wallace, you suck. That's all I gotta say. Your articles are terrible and you should be fired.

I hate to admit it but he's right. What happened to the team that dominated the Titans? The writing is on the wall. Its gonna come down to us having to beat Miami/Pennington and they are gonna make us look stupid. After the Titans win I was convinced they had it together. I think its time to at least get rid of Shottenheimer.Maybe Mangini too.

All I know is the Jets look a lot better than the Giants this morning.

I guess Wally had permission to stop work early yesterday.

Stop firing people, please! The unemployment lines are long enough. Matthews is a cynic, yes, but he's been correct (and wrong too). The truth is the Jets are hardly Super Bowl caliber. Their defense is far too porous. Leon hardly gets a chance to run with the ball, et.al.So:Will they beat Seattle and Chad's Dolphins? Not if their defense remains as bad as it has been.
Let us pray.

For all you people saying "a win is a win", why bother reading any article? Just look at the boxscore. This article is called insight. It goes beyond the boxscore.

This team is not very good. Unfortunately for them you can't put luck in the playbook. The Jets had to be given this game by an AWFUL team in order to win. They just might ride luck into the playoffs. But Jets fans should be worried about going into next year without a Super Bowl, a QB, and no 2nd/3rd round pick. It's not about what happened yesterday. It is about what happens in the next game and the one after that. Looking forward does not provide a nice view for the Jets right now.

The fortunate fumble, the missed tackling on Leon's TD run, and awful JP Losman will not always be present. It is becoming more likely that shoddy run D and poor throws and decisions by Favre should be expected

Now I remember why I stopped coming to this site to read the sports section. Talk about hysteria! Wallace Matthews is a hack. The fact of the matter is that there is no dominant team in the NFL, and any team is capable of beating another team on any given week. The Jets won a game against a division rival that always plays them tough, and that counts for a lot in the NFL.

How could you have been convinced that they had it together after the Titans - yes the Jets played a good came, but they also had the game handed to them, how many easy balls where dropped by the Titans and a major mistackle. The Jets played above themselves. They will not win anything with the lack of motivation inspired by Mangini and the the play calling by Shottenheimer. Coaches do not get enough credit, it is a challenging job, especially with all the money given to the players (who should all be paid a minimum with bonuses based upon individual and team stats). But the basic skill of coach is to teach the basics and motivate the players to want to win, and that is why the Jets have not won a big game in about 10 years?

So you are saying that unless the other team plays a perfect game the win the Jets get should not count?

What did the Giants look like last year before the last regular season game against New England?

Certainly at that point anyone who said they were going to win it all would have been laughed at. And look what happened. The Steelers did a similar thing winning it all as a 6 seed!, so ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!
