Nah, keeping Gruden would've kept the Bucs a middle of the pack NFL team. At least now if the team goes to crap, they will have a new coach & GM to draft replacements for those 40 year olds Gruden loved so much.

Plus, the offense can't get any more stagnant.

Fire Chuckie to hire some kid who has never done squat?? Wow, just wow! This is the worst HC hire since the Raiders hiring of Lane Kiffin. The results will be much of the same. The Bucs ownership have lost their minds.

I feel sorry for Jon. This end of season collapse I believe was due to the announcement that monte kiffin was leaving. The defense just didnt perform like it had in the last few games. Jons a good coach, he will find success at another team. He brought the bucs a super bowl win and nothing can take that away. Hes dealt with injury after injury the past few years. I wish him success wherever he goes.

Once again, the media in Tampa has driven out our coach. If youy think raheem morris is the answer in tampa, then you are buying the glazers bull crap. They just want a black head coach since the head coach is black now, i look for the qb will be unproven black qb Josh Johnson will be the new qb thanks to the rules of the antagonized ncaa. I think he is one of the few that can make it happen, so im happy,

Since it is common knowledge that the Glazers are cheap you can bet that the new coach is probably working for minimum wage.

Let's address some comments, both informed and stupid:

Informed: keeping Gruden would've kept the Bucs a middle of the pack NFL team.

Stupid: This is the worst HC hire since the Raiders hiring of Lane Kiffin.

Stupid: This end of season collapse I believe was due to the announcement that monte kiffin was leaving.

Okay, I'm sick and tired of hearing this. If Kiffin's leaving caused a problem, please explain why his defensive schemes held Carolina to 17 points entering the 4th quarter, Atlanta to 10 thru four qtrs., the explosive San Diego offense to 20 thru 3 qtrs., and the woeful Raiders to 14 into the 4th. The problem was not Kiffin, it was the old players on defense and the lack of depth that kept those players on the field for the entire game. If I hear the "quit on Kiffin" claim one more time, I will puke.

Stupid: Since it is common knowledge that the Glazers are cheap you can bet that the new coach is probably working for minimum wage.

You do realize that the Glazers are on the hook to pay Gruden and Allen 25M$ NOT to coach and manage for the next two years? Exactly how does that make this a cheap move?

Finally, for anyone posting subsequent comments calling for Shanahan, Cowher, Martz (!) or any other name coach in the wake of the Atlanta/Miami/Baltimore turnarounds: STUPID STUPID STUPID

Next season's schedule is so tough that 8-8 will be a great year. The new regime must lay the groundwork for success down the road, and I will back them 100% if they do. I've had six years of GruAllen's patches and quick fixes that have NOT worked. Time for another approach, to move this team beyond mediocrity for the long term, not just for one season.

Bucs fan since 1977, when I went to my first game to cheer for Walter Payton, wound up cheering the Buc defense instead, and watched the last of the 26 straight losses.

Good post flarrfan. You're spot on! Raheem Morris is a very good choice. I love Gruden, but the TB Offense was so boring and predictable. The team definitely needed a change.

Hah! I predicted this 2 weeks ago. This is what happens when you ignore the oil light on your car and keep driving. Actually it was the oil light on Tony Dungys car. Gruden built a good team in Oakland and then had the good fortune to play them with Tony,s team while the idiot Callahan ran Chuckies playbook at them.Plus the Pro bowl center that Gruden had control over, went off of the deep end and left Gannon wide open. The success of that Superbowl was more Montes than Grudens. I think Morris will do good if they have a good draft, however I think you will see a firesale on the offensive side during the off season. Gruden and Allen and Al Davis should patch it up and then Gruden can prove that he can build his own team.I have to agree about the comment about the Glazers being cheap is pretty stupid, lets not forget, before they went after Chucky they had Parcells and Shanahan on their dream sheet, I believe Gruden is making close to 5mil. a year.Gruden will not go to the Jets, if he does their GM can expect to be backstabbed and fired in the next year to be replaced by Allen. Pioli is too strong for Gruden, so I dont think KC is on the menu either. St. Louis is not the market for Chuckie either. Oaland would be the biggest splash and the biggest story. Now talk about cheap, if Al Davis can dig in his pocket like he does for inept recievers and safeties, he may see another ring before he dies!

I think that this is a mistake by the Glazers. Did they think that Gruden was supposed to win with Jeff Garcia as QB????

It's good owners are stepping away from hiring the same old coaches.

The Bucs gave up 2 first round picks and 2 secound round picks for Gruden. that is the reason we have no depth.

Kiffen leaving is the cause for the collapse

Garcia is the best QB on the team, not addressing that is why we are middle of the road.

THe new coach will fail miserably due to the Kiffin leaving and lack of a quality quarterback He will be blamed because he is black.

I don't think anybody will be able to save the bucks until they get an offence and the defence will never be the dominant team we have become used to. The new defensive cocordinater will lose his job because of that. Its going to be a tough time for coaches and fans.

Why Gruden is gone. Loser after Super Bowl Victory. Went 45-53.Quick exits from playoffs 2005 and 2007.Tampa Bay was 9-17 in the critical months of December. You can follow Miami and Jacksonville as they both have white head coaches. Close your eyes when you get a glimpse of the black assistant coaches.
