What this team needs is a field leader; Javon Ringer cannot carry the whole teams load and the QB is simply not up to the task; fadeaway passes into traffic were Drew Nietzel's hallmark, they have no place in football(I guess in high school Hoyer never heard of taking a sack to preserve momentum)
Penalties have always been MSU's hallmark and they did not disappoint in this game

Mark Dantonio's background in coaching is defense... although the MSU Spartans repeatedly take all the heat for its offensive mistakes (wrongly so... in a game summary view) it's the Spartan defensive unit that must step up to give MSU what it needs to become an elite Big Ten team. The MSU secondary has leadership and stability... no problems there... but the defensive line and linebacker corps need the "Dantonio personal touch' to change the Spartan D from passive to aggressive... both the linebackers and the defensive line have strength and some depth... but that front line and linebacker corps are not playing the kind of defense that they need to play in order to dictate what their opponents do... especially early in a football game. The defensive line looks great on a few plays... then collapses and gets stung on big plays... they need to play more as a unit... need to know what the other lineman is going to do on each play with the rush and gap situations... the inside linebackers, especially on 'run stop' situations don't provide the support to the outside backers to 'clean up' the corners and again... the spartans get stung for big plays. The 'speed on the corners' from the strongside and weakside linebackers are not being used to the Spartan's advantages like they should... with blitzes and running back keys... again... mostly due to lack of support from the inside backers... but these are coaching issues... not the player's issues... it's not acceptable to give up over 30 points a game to any offense and expect to win football games... granted... the MSU offense gave up a TD which can't be pinned on the defense... and.. the defense did put up points on the board for the team... but more work HAS to be done with the MSU defense to push the team over the edge. Mark Dantonio has the talent to get there... but it is his coach's job to shore up the defense to control the games... or at least hold the opposition to under 20 points a game... the Spartan offense has the tools to put up 21 points a game and if the defense can keep the Spartan offense to needing 3 touches to win... it'll be hard to beat this team.

Javon Ringer to me did not look as though he was playing to his potential but that could be the fact that last year they had caulcrick which switching these to guys out was constatly switching up the offense. He could of been tired...for sure but if there gonna get some touchdowns hes gonna need to step his game up.
