Three years removed Ricky Williams is still considered one of the top 5 running backs in the NFL, in my opinion! On that note, he may be the one bright shinning star that saves Cameron's job as head coach for the Dolphins.
True enough, he's 30yrs old and considered by some as "over the hill" from a skill position standpoint; however, as you witnessed today the Dolphins are'nt stupid enough to flat out cut him and put him on waivers. Why? Because there are several other teams out there that could use his services!
At the minimum, Williams will add some intrigue to what's already considered a dismal season. Moreover, he still has that star quality in the NFL and does no how to put fans in the seats at both home and away games.
Finally, with the rookie John Beck making his first start as qb for the Fins, he's going to need all of the firepower availabe to make him being picked in the 2nd round of the this years draft seem not too far fetched! A good showing by Ricky will simultaneously give the Dolfans something to cheer for as well as save save Cameron's #%*!!! Is he in football shape, of course not! But it's not like it's going to take forever for him to get there. Trust me sports fans, defensive coordinators still have to prepare for him and account for his whereabouts whenever he is on the field. Run Ricky Run!!!!!

Ricky W,

You were my favorite Dolphin since Marino. I like to smoke the weed too, but I would definitely have to give it up if I made $500,000 plus per year. You are a mellow and intelligent person and pretty much everyone you meet in real life says you are very respectful and a good guy. You are also a great NFL running back and have proven it every time you are on the field,
Therefore it has been decided by the NFL you would be better off becoming very violent and should begin beating and pointing guns at people ASAP. According to the media and NFL mandated discipline this is much better behavior than the smoking a joint of the stanky stank in your own home.
The NFL policy is ridiculous, they should not even test for weed like the NBA does not test for weed last I heard. Cam can talk about character all he wants; Ricky has great character and is a silent leader. Ricky just has a weakness with the Devils Lettuce, that Sativa is hard to turn down sometimes. They probably have Ricky psyche treated right now with three different pills of Prozac derivatives everyday which has major side effects medically compared to the Sticky Icky and even under heavy meds he will be cleared for play by the NFL as long as their “affiliated” doctors say it is ok. Anyway Ricky, welcome back to the NFL again, I truly hope Cam is smart for a change and adds you back to the team as the starting running back ASAP. I am breaking out my old Ricky Jersey and will wear it with pride when he rushes for 250 yards his first game back. If Ricky is in shape he may go for Adrian Peterson’s new record of almost 300 yards rushing. Ricky was always like a John Deere tractor and pushed through the line hard. No one can argue that. I hope Beck kicks ass but if he sucks Cam may be out of there within 3 games and Capers made acting head coach. Don’t think it can’t happen. I do hope the Dolphins turn it around but the worst may not be over yet.

Congratulations Cam Cameron on making a great decision, in fact two great decisions this week including Beck. Now the veil has been removed, the dark clouds will recede, and let the win streak begin! So be it!!

Let Ricky play as he deserves to still suit up as a Dolphin. His off field behavior has nothing to do with his on field performances. There's plenty of people out there with their own personal problems that still show up to work or are productive and pay their bills. We all have our problems, so let Ricky have his and try to overcome them. The fact that he keeps coming back and putting up with all the criticism really goes to show he won't give up and he must truely love the game. Run Ricky run!

Would it not be the ultimate irony if Prodigal Son Ricky ends up saving St. Cam from his pious high horse?

I prefer to keep religion close to the heart, not wear it on my vest and try not to force all others to live as I believe. Religion is personal, and St. Cam needs to learn that.

He made a mistake letting Evans go without him having his day in court (innocent until proven guilty is the rule of law). Yet here he is letting Ricky stay (or at least so far).

I guess my point is that if you set your standards absurdly higher than everybody else in the NFL, you get burned.

At least St. Cam has learned there is a lot of gray in a black and white world ... and a lot of other shades, too.

BTW, I still support Cam.

I think one thing that we arent taking itno account is this. Yes he is 30, and may running backs are on the decline at that agem from all those years taking a pounding in the NFL. Ricky hasnt taken the poundings he would have had he stayed in the leage. So he will be fresher than your average 30 year old RB. Then again, he, on the field, was never your average running back was he? There really is nothing negative about the reality of taking him back. The dolphins can only gain from doing this, they cant lose anything . If they released him, what if the PATS picked him up? They sure would have time to wait for him to get in shape, they already have Moss, another guy who smokes, or smoked pot. Remember, many peopel thought MOSS was washed up. Now we have Ricky, and Chatman, with an improving o-line, which will only make Becks learning curve that much easier on him!

I agree with your post, but temember, Theres a huge differance between what Ricky did, and what Fred Evans did.

If Ricky still can ran like he did & Beck proves his Frnachise potential this season, than we can go for the number one running back in the draft.
Brown had a good couple of games but not enough to make him the Franchise Back, future or present.
Even a journyman back is (Chatman) is tearing up the turf with this line. He dowes have an upside, given that he heals OK in trade value. Perfect timing for a possible score in the draft. Hope Cam really knows QB's & Beck works out.

One million words about Ricky. Not one of these pointed out this is a disease. If Ricky were coming back from cancer there would be open arms. If you don't have this disease you can't understand it (I do 12 years clean). The concept is supported by the AMA so it's not just conjecture on my part. Ricky let Ricky down. Regardless #34 was the most exciting player on the field since #!3 period. Ricky has value period.

Ken in San Diego, "He made a mistake letting Evans go without him having his day in court (innocent until proven guilty is the rule of law)."

Do you actually believe that crap? "the rule of law"? Obviously,YOU have never been arrested. When you get arrested, you are already guilty in the law's eyes, and must prove your innocence. Meanwhile, you are locked as an innocent man, as the law has already proved you're guilty. Get off your high horse and into the real world, because you might be the next one to prove your innocence. I know this a Dolphin site and this is a non-related response and for that I'm truly sorry to all the fans. Go Beck! Go dolphins!

Keep RW. Use him. He is more valuable to the Dolphins than a 6th or 7th rd. draft choice. Remember Brown has a bad injury, no guarantee for next year. With Brown, Chatman and RW, we wont need to draft a RB. We can look to help the disapointing, aging defense of ours.

If Ricky does well this year he may prove to be good insurance for Brown who probably won't be 100% until 2009. RicKy charing the load in 2008 and Chatman as Ricky insurance. Hell, Chatman may give us a higher draft choice for trade.

I don't agree Ricky has lost anything.
They were talking about Randy Moss going down hill while he was at oakland. How old is Moss?
If anything he might be even better. If you can stretch your body the way he does,he definately has greater flexability. His wheels have never been damaged and he doesn't have arthritis the accompanies ACL surgeries.
He's a freekin Phenom! 1800 yds with a "bad" offensive line and lots of Yak. I think he could have broke OJ's single season record with an O-line like New Englands or the KC line Preist Holmes was running behind.
It's a shame when talent's wasted because minds not in it.
I truly believe that Wanstedt was part of the reason he left. The year after Ricky got the 1800 you could here in his interviews he was looking forward to breaking 2000. Wanstedt never improved the team or the offensive line as a result i saw Ricky getting slammed time after time because there were no holes and wanstedt ran him like 300 times.
I'm thinking, I think Wanstedts trying to kill the guy so he can win.
He just wanted to run Ricky into the ground. Hell,i would have quit too!
Wanstedt didn't believe in a passing game. It's kinda like the Heat with Wade. They have a good player give him no supporting cast because of their ineptnitude in drafts & free agency then ride him like a freakin horse untill he's all used up.
Barry Sanders saw he was running for nothing and quit. Walter Payton stuck it out and was rewarded with a super bowl.
The Dolphins hold all the cards because Ricky can't do much about it.
I'm sure in the back of his head he'd like to be cut or traded so he can be on a winning team and make some major bucks out of his ability.
I predict he's going to show what he can do and be an amazing back and test the Dolpins. I see him bailing out again if there's no light at the end of the tunnel. I mean this guy is not going to continue to play for peanuts. They're going to have to pay him or trade or cut him.
Trade? The Dolphins are on the losing end of every deal they make.
The Chambers deal was even. The welker deal was a minus.
People want to trade Taylor for a 2cnd rounder. Where do you find a all pro Defensive end in the second? It's another downgrade.
In Ricky's case you just can't afford to make hapless decisions anymore.
I wouldn't trade him at all if he plays at a probowl level.
Like a stock, you wait till the value is were you want it before you sell it. This is an opportunity for both Ricky and the Dolphins, neither one can afford to blow it.

Yes Ricky is 30, but he's been off his legs for the better part of 3 years. He's got plenty left in the tank.
