Miami Dolphins: Patriots show strong interest in Jason Taylor; ...

The Miami Dolphins don't seem to have much interest in re-signing Jason Taylor , who has been a free agent since the Washington Redskins released him in early March. Read more

<quoted text>You might be correct, but that is but one scenario of many. Again, if JT is REALLY serious about being a Phin, he'll accept an incentive laden contract by us on the "cheap" if we move fast. Why tempt fate when you have Bellycheat pumping him up? Believe me, the Patsies* both NEED him (look at their draft at LB!) and can AFFORD him. Logic dictates that the Cheat is trying to pry JT away from Miami. If we can get JT cheap, why would we allow his price to get inflated?
right, that's why I'm saying that this is all driven by his agent. Otherwise we would have heard that NE made him an offer.

Alright, I copy that. I guess the big question is why haven't the Patsies or Phins come foward with an initial deal yet?

I feel that if Joey goes down and/if Cameron Wake goes bust, we could really use JT... on the cheap, mind you. What's more, the mere mentorship of JT to the young bucks is pricele$$. I think it's a win-win for us. What are we waiting for?!

I agree with you, as you said, on the cheap.

The only negative is you take away playing time from the younger guys.

My feeling is both teams are lukewarm about signing him...

And both teams know the way to build a true winner is through the draft. Free agency can fill a hole here and there but like you said you want those younger guys playing so you can either get them up to speed of get them outta there.

I'm with you; they both have to be lukewarm on JT so as not to jump on him early. It will be quite interesting to see how this all plays out.

The Patsies picked up free-agents Leigh Bodden, Shawn Springs, and Fred Taylor this year alone. Their top two receivers Randy Moss and Wes Welker were free-agent pickups (Wes was a RFA). Then you have the Corey Dillon's, the Sammy Morris', the Rodney Harrison's, the Dante' Stallworth's, etc.

It takes wise drafting coupled with intelligent free-agent pickups to make a program a well-oiled machine, such is the case (unfortunately) with the Patsies. I'd welcome JT back on the cheap in a heart-beat.

GK_"Steelerfan" a gimp taylor is better pass rusher than any "Phinoaks" you got now. You Daisies will be Tuna Salad for the rest of the league. You wouldn't have zip if it wasn't for Pittsburgh players that came your way, including Dan M.

You make a good point. The draft alone, will only produce a young team, that would peak at the same time. The BAD side is, they would all fall FLAT and OLD at the same time as well. They have to have a mix, of vets, and young players.
They need pass rush, so I would sign JT to a 2 year contract. IF they find that Cameron Wake, and others are enough Pass rush to go alopng with Joey Porter, they can then trade JT again, for another draft pick! I would let him play the year out, so he can show he still can play, then get another 2nd rounder out of him when the season is over.

Well, Leigh Bodden, Shawn Springs, and Fred Taylor are all pretty much cast-offs. Wasn't Bodden cut by the Lions? These guys have yet to play a down for the Pats and show what they've got left in the tank. Springs has been playing like 11 or 12 years and Taylor has about the same. These guys aren't premium FA's.

As far as Moss and Welker: They ARE premium guys. However, BOTH joined the Pats after the Patriots were established as a Super Bowl winner. I'm not trying to be a jerk about it, I just really belive that the Draft is what builds and defines a winner.

As far a JT - I agree whole-heartedly!

You are NOT being a jerk about it, you are merely expressing your opinion. That's what makes these forums great, you know?! What's more, your opinion on the draft vs free agency is well founded. I think, in a perfect system, you have a blend of both. The % of that blend differs from team to team, but I'm with you that we need more talent from the draft than what we need in free agency.

I appreciate your input, Lifetime Fin fan. And yes... we should sign JT on the cheap!

Thanks, BravPhin. But I'm not sure we're going to able to garner another 2nd rounder for JT again! However, your point is very well taken.

I guess I'm a little too old school when it comes to free agency. I don't want to see the end of a player who plays for the same team for more than a decade. It's happened in baseball and basketball [with a few notable exception] and let's hope football doesn't get to that point.

You know, as talented as JT is, I actually would rather see Zach come back. He always gave it his all and I think he's more of a Parcells/Sparano kind of guy. It's really too bad they didn't get about five or six years ago [or more].
